Thank you, Heather, I appreciate that it wasnt an instant cure. (2-1/2 years). I often feel Im failing because Ive known about TMS for awhile, but still have symptoms. But like you descibed I am starting to have stretches of time where symptoms are lower. Thank you for your clarity and hope. The desire to tell your story for the simple reason that it may resonate and help another is an amazing act of kindness. ❤ And as always, thank you, Dan

I liked how you said you don’t have to transform your personality. It takes the pressure off. Anything to take the pressure off from reassuring and calm people is very helpful. Thank you for sharing.

Something I was thinking today that one way of inherently being safe is not to lose sight of the person we are because of challenges and symptoms. It's easy to become ovrcome by the daily struggle, and to forget who we were before. Getting back in touch with that person, in spite of difficulties, is so important. What music we liked, what we liked to read, to watch. What interested us, and to reconnect to those things.

Appreciate this story a lot. So proud of you, Heather. I’m on a similar postpartum journey after my third. Pelvic pain after a traumatic situation. Im 7 months into this journey and I’m 90% better. What I struggle with is now pain anywhere. New pain sensations that pop up out of no where all over different parts of the body. I start the anxiety/fear over again. I know it takes time but I’d love to share my success story one day.

I love how Heather talked about she didn’t have to change her personality in order to heal. I feel like sometimes I put so much pressure on myself that I need to change who I am and have crazy 180 in order to heal and it makes me feel hopeless. Thanks for this amazing interview!!

And you will share your story ❤. I think honestly on a good day, recovery post delivery takes at least a year. With issues , it takes time. But I keep reminding myself “ body heals” Now to heal and calm down the nervous system ❤️ Which yeah, I think my nervous system is like a toddler 😂 and keeps sending random stuff down the spine. And I am more like “ no thank you ! Pls only normal sensations “ 😂 Easier said than done. But I practice

Took me a couple of days to get my comments down here... but I promise Heather and her story have absolutely been on my mind that whole time! I love everything about this... especially the reassurances for people who don't always fit the mold of what they think TMS and recovery always looks like. Thank you!

@@PainFreeYou ohhhh believe me, I’ve watched them all 5x each. Was soooo excited to see a new one pop up! They have helped me very much:). TY Dan. I found a TMS coach who suffered with these symptoms through her success story and it was the start of my healing! Only only onlyyy thing I wish is that they got into the specific symptoms more in their stories.. and I know how you feel about that but I think most ppl watching/searching these specific stories need the specific details because it is very very confusing. It’s not like an ache, or tension or pain of any other sort. It’s very very weird and soooo scary and it causes so many different thoughts of what it could be because it involves so many structures. But regardless these stories are so healing:)

Thank you Heather and Dan, great to hear you've recovered and that it took time, not enough stories around these particular symptoms. I know people share their stories voluntarily and it's much appreciated. I know you touched a little on what helped you, it would have been really appreciated to hear more specific details about your recovery path - any particular challenges/fears (eg sitting) you overcame, how you dealt with thoughts/emotions, beliefs etc. Wishing you all the best. xx

Hi! I would have probably taken another hour to talk about all of them! For several years my pain/ discomfort was 24/7, so it took a while to find what you are asking because it never changed. However, when it started to shift and be less intense at times I would notice it would be worse when I was on vacation or a trip, when I was doing something special with my family, when I would be around other moms with their kids, wearing yoga pants/ leggings. All of these symptom triggers were brought on by pressure I was putting on myself, fear and predictive coding or me expecting my pain to be there because I had it experienced it in that situation before. I overcame this by truly practicing being indifferent to the sensations when they came up and saw the symptoms as opportunities to practice not freaking out.

Thank you Heather and Dan, you did help me! I am now on the mind body healing path after years off again on again bladder and pelvic symptoms. (Trying to learn about the "diagnosis" of IC via the internet can truly make one feel hopeless!) I believe that my symptoms are from years of CPTSD compounded with extreme grief/loss and unexpected life changes from which my nervous system and brain are understandably perceiving danger. Thank you again. I have avoided seeing a doctor about this as I imagined it would be futile. I feel much more validated after hearing your story. 💜

Your instinct to not try the inter-stim was spot on, since even now, there is no evidence of effectiveness for pain. It helps some IC patients if their primary issue is urgency/frequency. Thanks so much for this story. It gives me hope.

Similar to me.. I had my son 14 years ago and I missed out on so much of being a present mum because of the pain.. I only learnt about TMS about 6 months ago. Still on the road to recovery but there has been an improvement

Heather, cannot thank you enough for sharing your beautiful story. I am in Boston too and would love to contact with you if possible. Dan, thank you for offering a free prescription of hope with each success story you share. It is hard for physicians to understand something they were not taught about in medical school, same as it is hard for us to build a belief that we have the power within us to heal, time and practice is teaching my brain every day that this is the key.

thank you!!!! A story that started with an "injury" or a birth or surgery. Yesssssss. Like Dan says , "body heals" . Thank you Heather for your openness and sharing your journey. So many stories start by saying "I woke up one day with XYZ. Love to see a validation in a story that possible started with a cause but long healed and still symptoms stayed. It is like our mind gets confused and get stuck in a loop. I wish we could reset our brain as we can a computer when it hangs 🙂

I can so relate to this!! Also had birth trauma around 5 years ago and a lot of my symptoms started then. It has been so difficult to manage raising my son (ie my mental and emotional state) and dealing with my own TMS symptoms. Finally in a better place but wanted to say how much I relate.

ah klinkt echt afschuwelijk!!!! Tooske Dekker, je mag me opzoeken. Liefs 😘😘😘

Doctors tell me I'm just stressed and it's causing me these issues. I know there's a big possibility that's the case, but there are also many stories about people being told the same, when they actully have a problem and now, it's too late an they're dying. That's what terrifies me. I want my case to be TMSㅡBUT WHAT IF THE DOCTORS ARE MISSING OUT ON SOMETHING? I am struggling with getting rid of this fear and living regardless of what's going on.
@arrigoh1
@arrigoh1 Күн бұрын
Someone should always rule out a medical issue first before pursuing this as the only treatment. The doctors in my case had not found anything medically wrong with me that was life threatening. The treatments they were doing were all being done to reduce my pain, not cure a medical problem.

Thanks for your story Heather, I went through the same thing in the mid90s when there was no social media. Only doctors and I went to many, many physical therapists for ic ,pudendal neuralgia,tight pelvic floor muscles burning etc. took me a decade to get better. Left a relationship, stopped going to treatments started enjoying my life As much as I could because I still had facial pain from a dental surgery going on as well. It’s a long tough road, had to give up a successful career, I can’t imagine raising a baby during all of that. You are quite strong. One of my urologists said at a seminar for interstitial cystitis patients, I have never seen such intelligent driven women in all of my career. They are all determined to get to a cure, unfortunately we did not have any Sarno knowledge at that time. His book was out but no one was talking about it I think I was the only one who read it but It mostly talked about past traumas not fear. I’m referring to his first book.Now you know whatever comes your way you’ve got it handled, enjoy your beautiful life with your son.
