I am in early perimenopause, and was just prescribed estradiol gel and the same progestin that was used in the WHI study. Went to two other doctors to see if they would have other option, and they all said that this progestin is perfectly safe. It is so confusing- I straight out asked for micronized progesterone, and the doctors looked at me like I was crazy. So here I am, bimge watching youtube for the sake of my sanity and health… should be starting the HRT this week, not sure if I should be terrified or relaxed. Tired- yes No sleep- yes Irritability-ohhh yes Libido- let’s just say I am more interested in gardening😮😅

I was having all the peri menopause sysmtoms and palpitations after cardiologist checked me out with TONs of test he was like look your heart is strong, this is hormonal. I was 😮. Then Oprah came out with it, after my HRT palpitations are gone, I sleep like a baby.

I Heather certainly delivers the validity of understanding the pros and cons of bio, identical, hormone replacement. What I really like about her educational delivery is the way that she delivers the words and how she delivers it, it’s almost like she should be her own Teleprompter. That’s how good she is. I really value everything that anybody is investigating here because women have a system not like myself, a male, but something complicated, perpetually needs maintenance. Therefore, the more you know about your motor the better off your car will run.

I’ve noticed that progesterone is often just given a slight nod in these conversations. Yet I’ve heard that it increases bone density which is a great benefit, among others such as better sleep, improved mood, etc. Would this not be a good choice for a woman with osteopenia? Would a woman without a uterus still benefit from progesterone? It seems that most doctors only discuss (if that) progesterone if a woman has a uterus. Is a USP progesterone cream just as effective as the FDA approved pill? Dr. John R Lee (passed) was a huge advocate for progesterone.

I realize symptoms drive the need for less or more HRT, but is there a minimum level of estrogen that provides benefit (.05?), and is there a maximum amount you typically prescribe? I'm on estrogen patch .075mg with a Mirena IUD for progesterone. Friends I talk to are either on .025 or .05 and their doc won't go higher; I have yet to meet anyone on the .075 so I wonder if that is uncommon?

Are you asking about the secondary benefits of HRT - the prevention of bone loss, cardiovascular disease and (possibly) dementia? According to Dr Barbara Taylor, a menopause educator also here on KZbin, the so called “standard dose” of estradiol is what has been established for those benefits. For the patches, it’s the 0.05 mg dose. She gives dosages for all the other routes of delivery as well. Apparently this has been established by studies in the past, but apparently there can be women who need a higher dosage, because the absorption from patches, for instance, can vary a lot. To ensure you are on a dosage that have those benefits for you, Dr Taylor recommends monitoring your bone density with yearly DXA scans and also monitoring your lipid (cholesterol) levels to make sure they are stable. She has a whole education on all of this here on KZbin. As to your question whether anyone else is on the 0.075 patch - I am, and a friend of mine as well. You’re not alone! 😊 From what I’ve been learning, there are a lot of providers who are not well trained in HRT and are super cautious / hesitant to prescribe higher dosages, although the dosages for menopause HRT are all rather low to begin with, compared to most bc pills, for instance, or to what our bodies produced naturally during our reproductive years. From personal experience, I would encourage women to experiment with a higher (or lower) dose, if in doubt. I didn’t realize that I could have even better energy and a “faster” brain on the next higher dose.

I am 41. I have so many symptoms of perimenopause it's not even funny. Is this possible? The vaginal thinning/dryness/cracking, the depression, anxiety, feeling like I'm walking in a daze, dry skin, dry lips (on my face), the fatigue, the fewer and less days of periods, the tingling in my feet (not all the time), the introversion, night sweats, insomnia, waking up drenched in sweat, joint pain, muscle tension, brain fog. Just to name a few Anyone have any suggestions? Can this be perimenopause at 41??? Please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is no way to live!!!!

I use the estrogen vaginal cream ony face and neck too. Do daily (twice) mini trampoline bouncing to get your lymphatic system moving.

Do hot Sauna for the stiffness and pain. Also, resviratrol supplement helps. Get your bone density checked and up foods and supplements of minerals that make up bone (phosphate, zinc, magnesium, etc.)

I would LOVE to be able to use your videos as a resource for my clients and the women that I serve in therapy as I agree...HRT is a significant resource/option that women need to be educated about. However...I remain concerned that your views are skewed and you continue to discard a viable option for women which is subcutaneous HRT via pellet therapy ( which is NOT new and has been around for decades). I agree that it would be ideal if the HRT that women receive be FDA approved. But again, this is not the case for MANY medications that are prescribed off label. INCLUDING Testosterone which is NOT FDA approved for women yet you yourself have recommended in the past for help with libido in post menopausal women ( though clearly in a different form). Saying simply that pellet therapy is "dangerous" and should be avoided is not only unhelpful but also goes against what you are saying about the benefit of weighing out options et. How about simply educating women on the facts ( ie Pellet therapy for women is not FDA approved) and how it may or may not be helpful for them AND how to find an appropriate provider who can assist them in weighing out their health risks against the potential benefit.

You kind of skip over the testosterone issue when recommending bio-identical FDA approved hormones. There are no FDA approved T products for women

‘FDA approved” does not being found scientifically efficacious, it only means that money was exchanged to provide this “approval”.
