I agree about the extremely long distances to walk @ Pearson...and the distances @ Heathrow's got Pearson beat! An insane labyrinth....

After memorable holidays in the sunny Mediterranean, I used to travel from Heathrow Airport to my home in Toronto: in 1977,1980,1984,1985,1991 and 1994. Heathrow was not as beautiful and luxurious as it is now. It was in 1977 that I first noticed that travellers were not as smartly dressed as they used to be in the 1950s & '60s. Back then, most men wore smart suits & hats, and women took pride in being beautifully dressed, including with a hat. They were the days when air travel was considered exciting and glamorous. All you had to do to board the plane was to present your airline ticket at the check-in counter and your passport to Customs. No security checks, no crowds from all over the world, no queues, no hassle.

The Lady walking in front of you while boarding and while leaving the plane had a very big backpack. Plus shoes. No wonder there was not enough space for everyone’s baggage on board. Great video 👍

Just returned from seeing similar sights, flew AC857 last week. Agree with comments about Elizabeth line, way better value than Heathrow Express.

@@mitchelljsawyers Thanks for your response. I'm not sure whether you're referring to my travels from the Mediterranean to Toronto or to airline travel in the 1950s and 60s.

@@j.g.8494 Hello. I was referring to Heathrow in general in the 1970s through 90s when flying was more enjoyable.

Шикарный аэропорт Хитроу. Спасибо, Джонни, что взял нас с собой. Все видео атмосферой, ощущение реальности, но я бы точно заблудилась и опоздала на свой самолёт 😁. Ещё раз спасибо, все замечательно!

Can’t believe that’s all you’re travelling with. I would have at least 2 suitcases - 1 big suitcase and a carry-on.
@JohnnyStrides4 ай бұрын
I only ever bring carry-on and make sure it complies with the airline's requirements :)

I love the Elizabeth Line. Amazing to think it’s deeper in the grounds of London than even the deep level Tube tunnels but it’s amazing. I see you avoided W H Smith. Good choice. They are stupidly expensive at airports, even after security. I nickname them “WHOA! H’expensive Smiths”. Thank you for visiting London Johnny. You’ll always be welcome here good sir. I’m looking forward to doing the same journey towards Toronto myself in December. FYI, London Gatwick’s railway station is literally next to the airport’s south terminal, so the distance isn’t too far to walk to and from.

I ate at that smokehouse the last time I flew out of Heathrow last year. It wasn’t too pricy! I remember actually being thrilled it was there, I was just so sick of the kind of hoity-toity coffeehouses and pretentious pastry places everywhere and had a huge craving for “blue collar food”! 😂. It was pretty good and reasonably priced.

The next time you go to London I highly suggest taking Westjet from Toronto to London-Gatwick instead. It's a much more straightforward airport. Only two terminals and they are connected by a dedicated shuttle train on an elevated track that comes every 90 seconds between the two terminals. The main train station is directly adjacent to the shuttle-train station at the south terminal. You take the "ThamesLink" train from Gatwick to St.Pancras International (non-metro, mainline train with limited stop). It's nice and cheap and fast. The British have a tendency to really downplay walking distances I've noticed; claiming something that is clearly not walking distance is. If something isn't within 300 meters; it's not really walking distance imho on a daily basis (like a metro station). Heathrow is absurd that they think a 10-12 min walk between the terminal and the tube station is somehow reasonable.

I often go on points so Air Canada is sadly the best option, but I take anyone but them when I have to pay and there's viable alternatives.

Another You Tuber says the Heathrow Express is only slightly more expensive than the Elizabeth Line if you reserve your trip 2 months ahead of time.

Do you get given the earphones given to you on this flight? It's the 1st time we have flown air canada and have absolutely no idea what's included. Only seeing ad reviews now we have booked😢 Is Toronto Airport hard to find your way through? As we have our first connecting flight
