Hellish Quart - Father Żera Teaser

Father Żera, formerly known as Pan Michal Dobrzanski. Years of hiding in the old church and battling his fears with wine took a heavy toll on his sanity.
A new character for Hellish Quart, Father Żera, will be available to play soon. He fights with a longsword, which requires hundreds of animations for two stances (left foot forward and right foot forward) multiplied by 3 sword positions - low, middle and high.
Hellish Quart is a 3D fighting game about historical fencing, set in 17th century Europe.

I would guess that they actually mocapped all of these with proper form, and then tweaked their active ragdoll system to get the drunken effect. Perhaps just delaying responsiveness and increasing the amount of variance allowed to make movements sloppy looking.

@Marek Siciński I don't insist, I obviously have no idea what are developers intentions and it might not be a case but it seems a good bet. The way he fights in half-decent manner despite being wasted indicates some very good training and practice so he's probably indeed a soldier or a knight of some kind. His sword and how he uses it looks typically "knightsh" The guy really looks like he have a PTSD and tries to find piece either in faith or in booze - in XVI century the hospitalers fought a lot with turks, including some really long bloody fights, which would surely left a lot of men broken.Finallly, he literary calls himself a "crusader" and mistakes thugs for "Saracens". None of this is an actual "prove" of anything but all combined it seems enough to assume things. A knight, who consider himself a crusader,.fought Saracens (or a folk similar enough to call them Saracens) suffers a PTSD, becomes a monk, fights with somewhat an old-fashion sword. He DOSEN'T HAVE TO be a hospitaler but I considered it safe to assume

I love this theory and wish it where so, but the dates unfortunately don’t add up. I think this game is set during The Great Deluge. A period of general invasion and chaos that happen in Poland during the 1600s. To my knowledge the two sieges you mentioned happened in the 14-1500s. However all that said the Poles where known to help the Holy Roman Empire and the Slavic brothers to the south against Ottoman incursion. So it is possible he fought against the “Saracens”.

@@Mycroft93 the Siege if Rodhes was something late 1540ies I belive, so it indeed doesn't fit. The Great seige of Malta was in 1565 however so it just miiiiight possibly be the case. Maybe with being somewhat... lax the dates you know. Or of couse I might be completly wrong, it's not like it's the only possible option. I'd just say it would be the most... organic option. Like putting a character into the historic context or adding some meta narrative if it make sense. Or it might indeed not be the case.

That might be true, but it certainly didn't affect his skill with the sword, which is I believe type XIIa (Oakeshott typology). Father Zera is my favorite character! Before his introduction, I played Isabella the most, because of her longsword, which is I believe either type XVa or type XVIIIb. I like how their styles of fencing are totally different and you can tell you are playing a different character right away. For the future, I would like to see a Scottish Highlander, aimed not with a broadsword, but with a claymore, and possibly a guest from Asia - a wako pirate, ronin from feudal Japan, aimed with a katana. Such pirates served as mercenaries for Spain, Portugal and Dutch colonial wars in the Far East, so it would be not totally out of reason to assume someone might've ended in 17th century Europe by accident or by adventure. :)

Story timeeeee (fan fiction) Father Zera was a survivor of King Louis' Crusade, due to the horror of the French King's Crusade (which is one of the worst crusade ever), he withdraws himself in the shelter of God, and yet the horrors of war haunt him everyday, that's why he's a heavy drinker. The sins he commited during the war was probably beyond measure, or perhaps due to the crusaders defeat, they view themselves as the loser-warriors of God. To seek forgiveness for his unfinished duty, Father Zera became a priest, or perhaps, as I said, he commited great sins during the Crusade.
