In the chaos of space, the Hellknights represent two ultimate goals: the establishment of Law, and the establishment of Order. These are their stories...

Liked the video and I will admit while I do love the Hellknights I am going to admit that they are something I am apprehensive about using them in games (if I ever do a non AP game or play one) is that both how little we know of the characters of the group and also the hierarchy. While we knew the Pathfinder hierarchy it seems to be different in Starfinder as the Lictors who were the leaders of the order in Pathfinder seem to be lower ranked now if the hellknight armour rankings are to be believed. The other reason is the lack of information on the current orders modus operandi because while we have pathfinder related information on the old orders the new ones lack detail. The Starfinder operation manual gave information on the order of the Eclipse and the tech book that is coming out this year will likely cover the order of the furnace I do wish there was a book in the style of Near Space that covered the base factions that appear in the core rulebook in detail.
@TheMapleTable3 жыл бұрын
i do believe it is a faction that definitely needs to be fleshed out for the new setting, but that also means no matter what you decide to do with them in your game your not wrong :D

Well, if I dragged my Greyhawk character through some Portal Magic BS and end up in Starfinder. I wonder if he would make a good Hell Knight? He was a Cleric of Saint Cuthbert. He was an Undead Slayer and Balancer of the Scales. Wielder of Cuthbert's Cudgel and High Judge of the Order. Even built a Temple on the grounds of a little shrine he rebuilt between Greyhawk and Divers. Typing this all out. I may just make my own faction in Starfinders. I do not see anything stopping me from doing so. And old school Priest in transported. Either out of time or literally taken to another plane of existence. His righteous fury and faith will not stop him. To either return home or accept that his God wanted him there. To that he brings word of the Balancer of the Scales. The Lawbringer. The Cudgel to this wild Universe. Oh yeah. Hell Knights may get along with him. At least some.

Another Starfinder video, another like from me and another comment - Just like the simulations :D I'd love to hear your views on Starfinder in comparison to D&D. I only ask this because I find the lore SOOOOOOOO fascinating but the crunch SOOOOOOOOO off putting. So much so that I worry it holds back what would otherwise be a super popular and loved franchise/universe.
@TheMapleTable3 жыл бұрын
I could do a comparison to dnd, for what i know of dnd anyway. Personally im drawn to a little crunch, because it allows rule bending and so on. I'd have to think about how to position this but... Its a good idea
@windermelon95672 жыл бұрын
The main differences you'll find are that players are presented with more throughout leveling, there aren't hard caps on any stats, and proficiency bonus is instead divided into base attack bonus and skill ranks. As well as multiple forms of ac.

My wife in Pathfinder played one bad ass Judge Dredd inspired Hellknight! Now that we are running a Starfinder one I was thinking of incorporating her character as an NPC whom is somehow still alive albeit perhaps Darth Vader like... More machine than woman. They are a party of scoundrels... 😂 It would be such a treat.

As far as I've read, Society play restricts PCs from being Hell Knights. Probably bc it may break some scenarios and/or Society does not want law-crazed fanatics amoung their ranks. I could see the conflict between peaceful encounters SFS mandates and Hell Knight violent motivations to keep law and order.
@TheMapleTable3 жыл бұрын
I would be hesitant to let a PC be a hell knight in my games too. At least untill a little more is known about them.

So Hellknights are basically a collection of Judge Dredds who literally worship the concept of laws and rules. God, Hellknights would make for not the best and the worst GMs. They'd always know all the rules of all the books from memory and would never pull any bullshit GM fiats or fudge their dice rolls. On the other hand any player who tries to do anything outside the proscribed rules immediately gets stabbed IRL.

@@TheMapleTable it does make sense in a world where there is a clear ruler of Hell that the only way to keep all the evil in check would be to enforce a strict, no hold barred law system. What I think is most interesting about the Hellknights is that they don't do this to seek power or out of a sense of morality. They seek law and order simply for the sake of law and order itself.
