I was a victim of childhood sexual abuse. I knew him too. He kept it well hidden. The line “this’ll be our little secret hits close to home. It happened for many years. I was like his puppet. The burden ad was exactly like how I felt. I told my mom years later. It took so long because I was scared. Luckily, she didn’t respond like the baby monitor mom. She got me out of there. I’m so so lucky to have a mom like her. Other kids aren’t as fortunate, so when I grow up, I want to help. I will speak up, and I will try and stop it. Numer 2 is the most horrific thing...just, ever, I actually feel ill, I almost CRIED. I remember studying a fair few of these when I was at school (which is one of the reasons why I've always been interested in your lists and how good PSA's are made) but none of those shook me as much as that one did. The most shocking thing about it though is why it was made. It wasn't purely made as a "stop child-rape" PSA (though obviously that alone is enough), it was requested specifically because men infected with HIV believed that having sex with babies would cure them, the PSA was supposed to stop this. The person who made it then decided to aim it at the women, because they knew that men like the one depicted here don't listen. Judging by the impact it's had on me and a few other commenters, I'm going to assume it did its job.
@HelloImAPizza8 жыл бұрын
Woah... are you serious about the HIV thing? I didn't know that! Thank you for the information. In regards to the PSA, I wholeheartedly agree. I have only watched it twice in its entirety (once when I watched it the first time, and second when I added the subtitles), because I physically cannot bring myself to watch it again. It makes me feel sick to my stomach, and the helpless, agonising cries of the little girl while her father rapes her are enough to scar me for the rest of my life! Even thinking about it now sends shivers down my spine and makes me feel dirty... argh. It's definitely up there in my own personal Top 10 most effective PSAs I've ever seen!
@AllyGatorAnimator8 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah, it's pretty horrifying to know why this was pitched. It's like adding an extra level of disgust to an already horrible topic. The audio is something I sadly won't be able to forget anytime soon, I'll be hearing it in my nightmares. 100% agree, it's so effective.
@HelloImAPizza8 жыл бұрын
Ally Gator Animator Same. That audio is going to stick with me forever. And the fact you don't even _see_ what's happening, but you already paint a very disturbing and horrifying image in your own mind of what's happening. 10/10 for effectiveness, definitely!

Some people just aren't fit to be parents. The phrase "It's easier to beat a child than to raise it" comes to my mind spontaeously. Oh, and "something" terrible happens to a lot of people. All the time. And while that's sad, that doesn't give anyone the right to take it out on anyone else, least of all children. The whole point of abuse is, that most of the time the abuser gets a kick out of dominating/torturting their victim and feels high on power & control. I'd doubt anyone who is able to do something so atrocious to begin with, falls into the category of "best people".
@Jana-fs2qf6 жыл бұрын
Proinsias Cassidy No obviously not. But at one point, they were or at least could have been. And guardians who are supposed to take care of u and love you, when they act the way they do by being abusive, the child might take on the role because that’s what they’re used to. Or in some cases these people do something terrible to get them in prison or worse, to show their parents that they deserved what happened to them. It’s a psychological and emotional thing.

To be honest, there needs to be more PIF's about verbal child abuse or sibling-on-sibling abuse. Parents pass off abuse from a child's siblings as "Boys will be boys" or "That's just how older siblings act" or something of that nature, when it is something that is very serious and NOT normal. Verbal abuse is rarely talked about at all, but it hurts. It can cause suicidal children, and can cause bad self-esteem in kids.
@priyasall Жыл бұрын
Thank you for mentioning that. As a 16 year old who is blind and has CP, I agree that verbal abuse is not talked about all that much. I have a verbally abuseiv father who has been abusing my mother for about 18 years, and I don't know how to get my mom out of it, because I can't leave myself, even when I really want to. I remember in 5th grade we had a child abuse association called “kids on the block” visit our school, they talked to us about child abuse using puppets, we were so innocent we never thought much of it, but learning more about it and having known that children go through this makes me lose all faith in humanity.

The cartoon one is one of the best in my opinion It really shows me how normalized abusive relationships are in cartoons aswell as being entertaining enough to keep peoples attention for the true message The animation being great aswell And the father is a great actor! Both having to convert later amounts of emotion,with the extra challenge of what you’re supposed to look at not being there

He would make me touch his private erea and he would hold my arm down when people went by. I think he was doing that so people would think I'm a disgusting kid. I felt horrible when I walked to the bus he would always be there waiting for me in the first seat. he always made me get in the inside so nobody would really see. I never told anyone this until now I'm now I'm in grade six now and I regret not telling my parents but it's too late now he's gone. When I think of this situation I feel like it was my fault.
