I absolutely LOVE love love bletillas! I am able to grow them outside here in the mid-Atlantic USA zone 7 and I do absolutely nothing and they easily grow, bloom and multiply under my small deciduous trees and shrubs. Just bought a pleione to try. So far so good in a pot-we will see how it does in spring. Loving your channel, thank you so much for sharing so much info!

@@helenalucey6502 Yes! They really are the bulb that keeps on giving! Just make sure when they're dormant they don't rot - keep them on the dry side - my first lot rotted happily away!

Always sad when we loose plants but sometimes those are the nest lessons.

Awesome video Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Looked and can't find a place that sells them. Subscriber from Florida.

Thanks for watching - really? That's a shame. The Japanese ones will not work in a tropical environment, but I'd have thought the others would? Perhaps ask around local orchid groups to see if anyone's growing them successfully - it might just be too hot and humid (which is weird thing to say about orchids!)?

Hello my calanthe has rotted at leaf base and leaves dropped off, too wet i think, will it regrow? There was 3 clumps before they got leaf rot (This is a very good informative video so thanks for the upload)

Thanks for watching....hmm....depends where you are but in Australia it would be a good time now to take it out of the pot, check the roots, and re-pot if all's well. Some are semi, or completely deciduous and will look awful in autumn winter anyway! Like many tuber or bulb, staying too wet often leads to rot. But it can be a tricky balance: some species are bog dwellers, some like dry-ish rest conditions, and some like to be completely dry in their rest periods. Try and find out where it's from and if in doubt err on the dryer side during it's rest, but not completely bone dry. If its rotted at the tuber - it's a gonner. If it hasn't, re-pot it in a free draining material and keep an eye on watering. Good luck!

Where did you got them ?

Thanks for watching! The Bletilla are the easiest to find - I actually got this tuber at Bunnings!! Most online bulb sellers will have them in winter when they're dormant such as Whitehouse Nursery. The Pleione orchids I bought at the Bolobek garden fair in Macedon held every first weekend in Oct - though not this year obviously! I think I also got some from www.australianorchids.com.au/ and you'd be able to find them on Ebay in winter. The Calanthe are much harder to find and these came from lynnsrareplants.com.au/ and you do see them occasionally on Ebay from local sellers. Good luck!
