@@JohnKim-wx6vt no clue. Yeah they ride them but that's based on irritating them (hold open the skin flaps with hooks). Paul in this scene I feel like is fulfilling that one part of the prophecy of "He will know the ways of the desert " like he's SO connected to it that he's basically the environment in and of itself, and therefore can't be perceived by the worms as a person, any more than the wind.

It is a rocky area, so no sandworms. And the sandworm behind Paul is the one he rode there, so it's tired. Once the worm is tired you simply roll down as the worm will just bury.
@throwawayinternetrp
@throwawayinternetrp 4 ай бұрын
The Sandworm in this scene might not just be there for simple dramatic effect, assuming it's not the one Paul arrived in. It could be that footsteps summoned it there, since Paul wasn't sandwalking here, but his foresight probably helped him avoid danger in some way or another. If that's the case, imagine what the Fremen's impressions were, seeing this man ignoring every precaution, and yet never being at risk. It was almost one of Paul's ways of demonstrating power, stating that nothing could touch him now, even the Shai Hulud
@trenhen4311

The sandworm is how he got there no? His lax towards the sandworm was probably done with intent of subjugating them. Like u said they’d be in their heads thinking “holy fuck even shai halud bows to this man” which would further his agenda of ruling of their will.

@@user-jk5um1om8l To make the powers of his series completely scientific, Herbert had to embrace a lot of junk science that ended up being revealed irl as hokum (genetically encoded memory and prescience just being Hyper-Mentat calculation). With modern genetics having found no genetically encoded memory (but perhaps access is still genetically possible), the Other Memory has to be stored somewhere, perhaps metaphysically, with a similar source for Prescience (the mentat training just being helpful in not going insane while sorting all possible timelines). In other words, the worm MIGHT HAVE BEEN, psychedelic fungoid demigod that it is. It's just that the Bene Gesserit have put all their eggs into the rationalist basket, hoping that all the abilities they use and seek have purely biological and psychological roots, spreading this cynicism among the Landsraad elite. Because, IF THEY'RE WRONG, then they've basically been raiding Gods liquor cabinet for the past ten thousand years. But now the big G has realized that the bottle is suspiciously light and has decided that, to teach the BG some humility, the next bottle is going to have a worm in it.

Some people in the comments seem to be confused, so let me clarify. At this point in the story, Paul has perfect prescience. He can see all possible futures and knows what every choice and action will result with. This is what allows him to do the coolest most badassed motherfucking walk possible, because he already knows which manner of walking will make him look the coolest while also not getting eaten by a worm.

The scene when he walked through crowd is almost like a juxtaposition with the sandworms. Just as the worms bend and manipulate the stagnant sand like water, he who had become the lisan al gaib possesed the force and power to move the stagnant masses to his will. The cinematography and symbolism is amazing. And I wasnt sure if the dots in the landscape at the beginning were a massive amount of people, but if it was, and they all gave way to paul, then gives the scene more impressive magnitude

Ya I thought this scene was fire, but somebody explain is it he can see the future now so he knew where to walk and not get eaten or is it he can control the worms now or something?

I think it's the worm he used to get there. According to the book, the Fremen ride the worm until it gets tired, and then when they get off, it's so tired that it doesn't try to swallow them, but goes underground to "sulk" instead
