If we can have the 30 of y'all (the OP and the 29 likes) to wash your hands before you watch Chewjitsu vids, that would be great.

Thanks Chewy. This is something I noticed this year after hitting a plateau last year. I've been focusing on butterfly sweeps this month and have noticed just how much better they are getting from when I started.

Just returned after a 6 year hiatus where I’d stopped prior to my first WB stripe. The initial failure was purely ego driven as I wasn’t progressing as quickly as I’d expected. This time around and now in my 40’s, it’s all about a fun way to stay in shape and just going to put in the work and accept the progress as it comes. I am journaling after each session to track progress and will be interesting to see what that looks like a year from now. Early journals are about body soreness and limited mobility. Excited to be back on the journey with a different mindset.

If you want to keep track of time trained, seminars, techniques etc there's an app called Marune. It's pretty handy.

Good stuff, luckily I have another person who started at same time as me. After about 2 months we are finally allowed to roll. (Gym rule) so we are really starting to see our progress now and getting better together. Also we are two of the bigger guys in the gym so always partners. Having someone to compete with has really sparked up my training and progress.

What I’d like to see is a black belt who only submits on the opposite side. A righty who will now play as a left, submissions and passed. Will his ego stop him cause he’ll be struggling a bit

Hey Chewy. Love your videos. I've been training for about 6 months consistently around four times per week but find that I'm getting smashed by people who've only been there a a few times. I'm not discouraged but it's very frustrating so do you have any ideas why this might be happening?

I hope he answers because I was feeling like that for a while. I have been training for well over a year but at the end of last year I was feeling like I just lost my mojo lol I think I’m better now but I was very frustrated and at a loss of what to do to “fix” it.

Like most things in life: it depends on the person. Theres a blue belt at my gym that's been going at jiu-jitsu for about a couple of years, and I'm just a white belt. Before I got my first intermediary belt he got his blue. He trains more days than me, about 1 more day, and I practice 2 days a week. I have submitted him the most in the gym. And no, he's not giving the subs to me, I can tell because eventually he started hitting the mat after getting subbed, and recently he became overly aggressive with another blue belt, the instructor even had a talk with him about it. The other blue belt was much bigger than he was and he has a hard time with him, I get subbed by the bigger blue belt a lot, but that's if I'm not being mobile and staying underneath him. Shift your focus on specific techniques to the bigger picture. Focus more on guard, then sweeping. Then you can focus more on passing and submitting. I'd also say to pay VERY close attention as to how he's passing you and sweeping you. What openings are you leaving, are you allowing some variations to get you more than others? Do they focus on a specific style of play or do they do something different every time? Learn as you roll, don't make it a passive experience, learn at EVERY point, even when you're at home. There was this study revolving around basketball players and practice. They would get 2 groups, one would practice by shooting literal baskets and the other just imagined shooting baskets. Both groups were then told to play a couple games and the data showed that both had a similar level of growth. It's not just physical. And if you say: "I am learning at every point" then it's just talent and tell them to compete.

So I'm a senior in high school and wrestling season is almost over and I'm getting ready to go back to Jiu Jitsu, is there anything from wrestling I should be taking into Jiu Jitsu?

Escapes, takedowns, throws, and maybe some of the pacing. Most important is the work ethic.

Even though Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling are different there are a lot of similarities. Wrestling helps your BJJ game with superior takedown ability, takedown defense, amazing cardio, work ethic ( as the other person commented), great top pressure ( this is probably the most important)etc. Wrestling also equips you with the ability to feel out someone's balance distribution whether you are in the clinch or any position you are tied up with someone.

I sincerely enjoy your content and have been following your channel over the course of the last 3 or so years. You are clearly intelligent and full of knowledge when it comes to multiple domains of advice giving, but I am disappointed in you about something. Let me preface my statements by stating this: I use to be a huge Elliot hulse fan. I'm 26 years of age and discovered Hulse when I was about 13/14 and he was an inspiration to me. I loved his strength camp content ( still do) and thoroughly enjoyed his Elliot Hulse channel that he used a platform for advice for young men. Something happened and I know I am not alone in my sentiments. Around 2014 ( give or take) the man went bananas and not in a good way. The quality of his life advice is absolute moronic and he seems to be in a very antiquated and primitive way of thinking. Mix that in with a bunch of the spiritual woo -woo shit that he ascribes to, he completely lost me as a fan. I understand that from a business perspective it is smart to maybe associate yourself with him ( fair play), but if you sincerely think that Elliot Hulse give quality life insight anymore then I don't know what to say. From the moment I started watching videos on your channel I could sense you also were a fan of Elliot hulse because you were emulating his advice giving style ( whether that was by design or subconscious). I want to know what your legitimate thoughts about hulse are.

Just to give people a small idea of what I am talking about: he regularly switches back and forth form being muslim and christian and justifies this by saying he's a spiritual guy. During an interview he was asked if women should be allowed to vote and as a response he paused and said I'm going to withhold my answer. His "Yo Elliot" series use to have practical advice with some spiritual undertones ( which is completely fine), but he then descended in to this mythological shit. The material he reads is written by twisted pseudo intellectuals and he sadly spews their nonsense. He literally paused during one of his videos and noticed his lip was bleeding and responded " oh I wonder what the omen is for bleeding lips". I'm not even scratching the surface. He gives completely shit dietary advice and only invites like minded people to simply confirm his very rigid and single minded beliefs.

I 100% agree with you. Elliot Hulse has really lost it and I also feel very upset with Hulse. I'm curious what Chewy's take is.

@ethopian I'm also a former Hulse fan and can understand your thoughts on hin 100%. But why are you disapointed in Chewy? Chewy just creates useful content regarding to Grappling and the BJJ Lifestyle. He's not telling somebody to change religion or isn't creating a cult with weird believes. So I don't see how anyone can blame him for spreading good information about BJJ even if the used format has some slightly parralels to other channels
