Part two (likely of three) of our HEMI engine rebuild. Piston installation and timing setup are in-depth this time. Stick around for part 3 where we finish up the engine and get it ready for installation!

after dicking around with those blue cheap piston ring compressors.. I finally bit the bullet and bought a specific 4.055" ARP 6.1 sleeve type ring compressor & man o man they where worth the $90 bucks! all Pistons went in on the first attempt with a much lighter tap then you used. I probably could've just pushed them in by hand, that's how smooth & easy it was.

Wow your valve seat dropped that's crazy how much damage that will do to your engine. I'm rebuilding my 07 charger RT lucky thing is my valve seat didn't drop. Nice video bro.

For those looking for the third part... I filmed some of it. I'm going to go look and see what I have. The end of the rebuild turned into a time crunch as my plans changed and I had a short time frame to move to another state. Once it was together, I ran into several issues from a leaking fuel pump to the front end needing to be completely rebuilt. It was a great vehicle after that. A 2K mile round trip, hauling a trailer one way, for its first real drive. It now sits in my garage with a bad heater core. I'm not keeping it.

@Kason River WTF IT ACTUALLY WORKED! Just hacked my ig password within roughly 40 minutes by using the site. Just had to pay 15 $ but definitely worth the price =) Thank you so much, you saved my ass :D

Great video, excited to start tearing into my 5.7. A couple questions: How much of a bore did the shop put in your block? And do you have a list of what SRT parts you swapped in instead of stock? The motor in my '04 Ram blew so I purchased a replacement motor. The replacement motor looked exactly like the one you pulled from your Durango with the dropped valve. Luckily, mine is only on the #7 piston.

Any recommendations I have a cam bearing that sized on camshaft now I can get cam shaft out I have heads lifters off motors still in the car

Guessing that was valve seat damage? I have the same problem on one cylinder. Haven't torn it apart yet but scoped it and the top of piston looks like yours and the cylinder is scored up. How much did you have to bore your block with that damage?

My HEMI 5.7 engine got contaminated and it became a form of oil mud and a lot of dirt, how do I clean the holes where the anchors or elevators go, and where does the camshaft go? Can I use a hydrojet with a lot of diesel or gasoline to remove the dirt? Would you help me in the process? With what liquid can I put a pressure gun on it through the oil ducts of the engine block?
@Farmor4x42 жыл бұрын
I would like you to tell me the part code of that oil pump with higher pressure to place in my dodge ram 2500 5.7 hemi year 2006. Thanks, and also the update of the engine timing system. Thank you

Great vid! Excellent job, question, what caused your pistons to get so damaged? Thanks for posting this video great work.
@TorxGarage4 жыл бұрын
Apologizies for not finishing this series, I want to make a final one just to wrap it up soon. But anyhow, the major damage came from when it was severely overheated. That caused the hardened intake valve seats to drop out of the heads and get smashed to little bits.... making hamburger meat out of the pistons. Dont let these overheat!

what happened to dunking the pistion in an oil bucket before insertion? forgot to put a pin in the timing chain tensioner to release the pressure for easier install. loctite on anything? chase the threads in the bolt holes? M342 melling oil pump is std volume/pressure M362 is high volume (10psi/1k RPM) i love the build. dont forget to tell people to bag it if it has to sit for a while. mopar

Appreciate the good tips! I found out as I was going through this I pretty much had to redo everything as I was focused on talking without some kind of notes available or something. Missed some steps and had to go back. Like the thrust washer someone mentioned.

How much do you charge to rebuild 6.4L srt8 engine
@michaelcarydakis7903 жыл бұрын
I always use a new cam bolt the last time I did this for a client the bolt fractured after 200 miles so never again many do it not worth it for 20 bucks just do it cost me to rebuild it again
@nicholashuckeba72122 жыл бұрын
Noticed the bolts installed on the cam/timing plate not torqued to spec. It’s not much but important enough

Where did you get allot of the recommendations for the SRT parts that would fit and the torque specs? I have a new 2018 300C with a hemi and if any of these parts go bad in the future I would want to get better stuffs too:D
@TorxGarage5 жыл бұрын
Most of it is just research, seeing what people have used in the past. Gotta be careful, not all recommendations are wise. But eventually you find information that is common and many people have tried it with positive results. I've also noticed, like the SRT timing parts, are labeled as "heavy duty upgrade" through rockauto. When you compare part numbers, one is OE for the SRT and then you have the base engine part. Best to visually compare to the two when possible. I look at repairs as a chance to upgrade, so anything I find that may need replacement I research and see what might be a better option. They've made quite a few improvements to the gen 3 hemi after I believe, 2008. For torque specs, alldata subscription, more careful internet browsing or a Haynes manual could be beneficial.

So the wide side of the connecting rod goes facing the crankshaft not facing the other connecting rod?

This is an overhaul , not a rebuild. Crank not turned? Mic? Or polished? Looks like it ran hot and dropped a couple of valve seats
@TorxGarage3 жыл бұрын
Overhaul, rebuild, same thing. That it did, that's how I ended up with it. Crank was not machined, no need. Journals showed no wear, standard bearings gave me clearance in spec. Pretty much everything else was new. Actually, aside from the block itself, everything was replaced.

Yeah I know, I feel bad about it. I pretty much had to stop filming after this, too much was going on. I think I still have the rest of it but I had to rush through. Good news is I got it running and it has been a great car and towed over a couple thousand miles. But I've moved to another state and had two jobs now since. Extra good news is I think I'm finding normal routine in life again, and I want to make new videos.
@curvs4me4 жыл бұрын
@@TorxGarage That's good news! Sorry you had a tough time, that is a whole lotta stress jumping around. I would definitely be interested in seeing it all back together and running. I'm interested because you can buy an older v6 car for much less. 2016 dash seats everything will bolt right in you can do a diy Hellcat or something for less than half the price of a used one. Just a lot of labor, but its so worth it and attainable for the everyman. Keep it going forward and don't look back. Bless you and your family.
