I personally wonder at what point it became very prominent because in the early 2010's he still sounded normal. He had some youtube videos two years ago that showed him working out in the gym, he could still hit the bags pretty good and bang the speed bag, but when he talks you can tell.

McNeely had some decent potential, was brave and decent in his prime. The big problem was he heavily abused alcohol and cocaine (his own words) and somewhere a long the line he got brain damage. If he boxed clean, really got into training clean I think he would have had way more potential. Much respect to McNeely and Tyson, they both respect each other and say good things about each other nowadays

I’ve seen some recordings of Pete’s few amature fights and he was actually half way decent . He knocked out a dude who made it to the Olympic trials. He only had like 20 amateur fights total but he was pretty good locally in New England. He just wasn’t cut out for high level pros, even mid level . But he wasn’t terrible as an amateur and won the majority of his fights
