When PM fought Tyson he (PM) was fast and sharp. He went toe to toe with him, and they had good exchanges in which they actually seemed about equal - he ducked and slipped Tyson's shots very well, returned fire with good hand speed and power -- he looked good. He must have had trouble with motivation in his training, maybe not the best trainer/sparring partners etc, and maybe things outside the ring. I've seen clips where he looked pretty good, others where he's awful. But I have the impression that there was a lot of potential that didn't quite get fully jelled. Respect to Pete.

I fully agree with this on just about every level. One thing I noticed in every one of Pete’s fights is that he goes right at his opponent. He doesn’t just run constantly. I’ve seen that so much with HW journeyman fighters. Like they’re so afraid to get punched that they never engage. Yeah, Pete didn’t have the skill for the top level, but he was ALWAYS game. Anyone that paid him to get in the ring got their moneys worth no matter what. Pete himself ended up with a lot of Brain Damage from that. With a good team, proper training and motivation, he may have been in the HW picture more.

That itself can cause Brain Damage from cutting off oxygen to the brain during sleep. The guy has a lot of heart and courage. He is out there on KZbin still as far as I know. Sells his own shirts and everything!

When sparring & doing amatuers you are only going to be as good as your competition. McNeeley was probably the best heavyweight in his gym, probably his town, he had brothers he could spar. If he wasn't being challenged, he probably never fought anyone with better skills so he could get better. Also even if he had, if he didn't use the virtual skill set, it would eventually be lost.

He bulled him into the ropes and tried to take his head off. Obviously it didn't work, but nobody can say he didn't give it his absolute best. He took two knockdowns against Mike and still wanted to carry on. Nobody attacked Mike like that, ever. In the Akinwande fight it was obvious that his punch resistance was absolutely gone. It happens. Peter McNeeley may not have been a champion, but he had a champion's heart. He would have destroyed all the trolls who are heartlessly laughing at him from behind their keyboards that's for sure. No respect for boxing or boxers. Shame on them.
