I have one of these. I love it. It is my plinking rifle. I go out in the desert, set up a row of soda cans and shoot them. It can also be used to shoot steel or cardboard targets. This is a great rifle for the money. It is both lever action and tube fed, a design the gun grabbers have not set their sites on yet. You really can't go wrong with this rifle. Almost makes you feel like John Wayne.
@regsparkes65079 жыл бұрын
Now I have to tell you first of all that I tried a few lever action .22's before I decided to buy the Henry. It is , as they boast, fully made in the U.S.A. 'atomiccat2002' says that the wood is 'fake' !! According to Henry this 'fake' wood is 100% American Walnut, of course the receiver cover is going to chip or scrach,.what rifle will not show a chip or scratch. It's a rifle for god's sake ! Rifles are meant to be used in rougher conditions, not handled with cotton gloves. One thing for certain is that this rifle is perhaps thee smoothest lever action I have found, in this price range. I also 'love' Marlin rifles, but just pick up a Marlin and work their lever,..... The shooting is as good and accurate as can be for a .22 with iron sights, mine is only 5 years old to me at this point, and I have not had a single thing to complain about, no failure to fire, no stove piping, no jamming, no nuttin', just good reliable shooting both target shooting and general plinking.

As for the 1/2 cock hammer position... if you study the design , on the top of the hammer, it is pretty easy to tell whether it is in that position , or fully dropped. When the hammer is all the way down , the front most serration (those plentiful ridges on the spur) is even with the rear of the receiver. When in the 1/2 cock position, there is a short platform ( a nice flat area without any ridges) visible (maybe 1/4 " long ) between the front serration and the receiver. I was also going to comment on the " leeever " thing ... but someone beat me to it. Thanks for the explanation on that. :^)

I hope it’s not a gun issue.

It will take a scope easily. Mine has a cheap-to-buy Bushnell scope and the sight picture is good. You can still use the iron sights under the scope, but it is a close clearance.
@Huntinggearguy8 жыл бұрын
+Doug H. in VA did you end up using a cheek riser or something to put your face higher? I felt the drop on the stock was such that iron sights would work best, though an optic would work with a padded piece on the rear stock to get my cheek up.
@DougHinVA8 жыл бұрын
+The Hunting Gear Guy No changes to the gun at all. the scope sits low in the rings, but there is just enough clearance under it to allow use of the iron sights for 20-30 yards shots. But at 50 yards, I need a scope. I'm not 40 any longer...

Hey Hunting Gear Guy. I own an ERMA-WERKE Model EG 712 22 S.L.LR. You can google it if you are not familiar with the rifle. It was a German Arms company (ERMA-WERKE stood for Erfurter Maschinen-Fabrik) which supposedly Henry eventually bought out. If true, it is actually the 'father' of the Henry Lever Action 22. It certainly has a 1 to 1 resemblance down to the smallest details. I read in another Henry review that some of the parts are interchangeable. I also read that Steyer had owned the company for a while. By the way, no cheap workmanship on the ERMA, solid German engineering. I wanted to attach a photo but don't know how. Anyway, I bought the rifle in Germany (where I presently work and hunt), because I needed a good rifle to hunt rabbits. I got a great deal. I have a NcStar 4-16 x 50 Rangefinder Scope (Illuminated) mounted very low on it and I can say it's more than awesome (and fun) to hunt with. Accuracy is incredible, I can easily pick off rabbits at over 100 yards with no effort. If the Henry Lever Action .22 Rifle is anything close to it's supposedly German roots, then it should be a pretty darn good rifle. Can you give me any feedback on the ERMA story?
@ratscoot7 жыл бұрын
You're correct. Erma was a German metal fabrication company who also made guns. Most famous was the MP38/MP40 "Schmeiser" they produced in WW2. They started gun production again in the fifties. They made blank firing guns and cheap zinc alloy guns who were mostly rimfire copies of famous guns like the Walter PPK, M1 carbine an Luger P08. When they went bancrupt in 1998 the US henry company bought the tooling for their .22lrlever action rifle. Again the receiver is made from a zinc alloy (pot metal).
