Then looked to see if anyone noticed. My sister would do that shit when she would blame me for stuff and just cry to get out of trouble. I don't claim to be a human lie detector. But because I knew the truth. I would look at her and picked up on these things as "Tells" when a female was crying to throw off a lie or to get sympathy. Guys sometimes do it but it's probably heavily in favour of women due to fathers having physical responses to the sound of their daughters crying. But less often, the sound of their son crying. It's different now but parents used to punish sons for crying and "Showing weakness" so we had to learn other ways to confront Lies. So when a guy is pretending to be upset at an accusation we will get aggressive and often violent instead of crying.(This is especially true if they didn't actually do it) So yeah there is exceptions to this but I have a really good eye for this exact kind of lying technique. And it makes perfect sense she was rich. Could probs cry and get her way. She herself talked about her dad as a being like a "Doormat" and she very likely thought that she was good at lying, rather than her dad was being controlled by parental instinct. Even most women who aren't lying will get pissed off at accusations. Not cry. Only bad liars will go the sooky lah lah route

As a person who's Asian, it really pisses me off to no end that the monster blamed an "Asian supermarket" for stocking death cap mushrooms, even though NO Asian supermarket would EVER make the mistake of foraging, packing, stocking, and selling *death cap* mushrooms! Even in the hypothetical scenario where someone DID pick a death cap, someone ELSE would quickly notice it and discard it immediately. There's a ton of ppl involved in the process of the foraging, packaging, stocking, and selling of mushrooms along with all other produce, and the chances of her finding and picking packaged+labelled death caps from the store shelf of an Asian supermarket is extremely low if not impossible. And on top of that, in recent time, there was a high increase in hate crimes and discrimination against Asian ppl during the pandemic, and singling out a local Asian supermarket with her awful lie had the potential to actually negatively affect if not tank Asian stores' businesses. Thankfully, most ppl saw through her BS and didn't buy her lie, but still....
@El_Ophelia
@El_Ophelia 7 ай бұрын
She didn't say the "bad" mushrooms were from an Asian store exclusively. She also mentioned ones she allegedly bought at a non-Asian store. Regardless, I think she foraged for those mushrooms and didn't buy them.

@@El_Ophelia Ahhhh, my mistake! While it is true that she didn't exclusively blame an Asian supermarket, the lie was still shitty and ppl, if they believed her lie, could've also then make the conclusion that the death cap mushrooms more likely came from the Asian supermarket and the lie still had the potential to cause fearmongering+negatively affect Asian supermarkets in the country. And yeah, it is my belief that she did get the death caps from either foraging them herself, or from a black market (I'm leaning more towards the former)

There's a 4-time widow who used to live in my town who is known to be very good at mushroom foraging. Sadly, her first husband died of eating poison mushrooms. Her second husband, a very wealthy and kind man, died of eating poison mushrooms. Her third husband, kind of a fun playboy, also died of eating poison mushrooms. Her fourth husband, a biology professor at a nearby university also tragically died about 5 months after they were married. , He died of a fractured scull. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I'd like to add that when someone purchases mushrooms from a store, the mushrooms were NOT foraged from the wild. They are grown in large facilities where they're cultivated in huge quantities, from very specific spores, under close observation! I used to work as a mycologist, and didn't hear of this. But, checking it out, looks good. The caveat has to be: hasn't been attempted yet, much less in humans. Because the way ananita toxins affect the body, I worry this cure (which blocks the action of a protein) may usually be sought out too late. Yet, if rather have a tool to fight the toxicity than nothing. Study was also only on alpha-amantilin, which is the most deadly of the amatoxins, but, most seem to work in a similar way, and it could workb on all, yet the study was confined to looking for a blocker of alpha-amanitin. Anyway, thanks for the info.

Thanks for this info. I had no idea. I wonder if they treated the man who survived this with it? I do know he was very fortunate because he ended up @ a hospital that kind of specialized in treating poison cases. One other thing...I heard that death cap mushrooms actually turn the liver into mush during the poisoning. I guess that's why that guy had a liver transplant. He was very lucky a good liver was found for him.

I didn’t know that she was a former air traffic controller. That makes me look at her a lot differently. Whether by accident or design, in all the footage I’ve seen of her she seems to be presenting herself as a muddle-headed, confused and emotional woman, not necessarily very bright. I thought she was guilty before, but now I know how smart she is, it makes her seem much more calculating and callous. And the fact that she is an extremely experienced forager, yet insists that she bought the mushrooms from an Asian shop she can’t remember…? Nope, not buying it.

They are also one of, maybe (the most) highly poisonous mushroom on the planet. Anyone who is studying mushrooms, will know this famous mushroom, close to their first day of study. We learn *STAY-AWAY* !! It is not only extremely deadly, at very low dose, but by the time you feel symptoms, days later, it's too late to stop it. And we are so careful about this mushroom, not only for the near certain death, but the death that it brings, is most certainly a gruesome, and painful one, as it slowly liquefies its victim's organs, from the inside out. She knew very well what she had. No question about that.

Aussie here! So excited to see you cover this story, Mike. I remember early on questioning her story, I just could not believe that you could buy death cap mushrooms at your local Asian grocery store. As if!? I do wonder if she actually went to the hospital though... pretending she had diarrhoea & vomiting 😆 What a psycho... What a horrible way to die, suffering from days of gastro symptoms, then liver and kidney failure ☹️ Those poor victims.

This is definitely getting some international attention; I followed it as closely as possible here in the States. My concern is around a jury finding her guilty beyond a reasonable doubt; even with her knowledge and experience, I fear that, without her confession, deadly intent may be difficult to prove in a court of law. For example, once I baked a triple batch of chocolate chip cookies, mistakenly replacing sugar with salt. Worst cookies ever. (I do think she’s guilty; and I hand it to Australia for always seeming to add a bizarre element to such crimes.)

Same here... As I have a "bunny boiler" as an ex-wife. I still have trouble with my left arm & shoulder thanks to being assaulted with an aluminum baseball bat for refusing to sign my house over to her and my VW Westy over to her brother. Of course the Ann Arbor Police threatened to arrest me when I reported her crimes, because as a Halfbreed, I "must have done something to cause her to do that". Foraged around and found out! Love it! I never found Erin to be sincere and had been waiting for her arrest. I feel for the ex-husband and particularly the innocent kids in all of this. Not to mention those who had their lives cut short or forever changed by her callous actions. She seems like a real head case to me. I’m glad the ex husband, Simon is still around for their children. He’s had to go through a lot and a lot more to come. Erin, seems to have a lot of rage inside of her and obvious mother issues. I’ll never be able to visit my parents 20 minutes down the road from Leongatha and drive through there and Koorumburra without thinking of all of them. Whether it be for greed or revenge, it’s just so sad that she had to take it that far.

A lot of people were baffled when she wasn’t charged straight away but the police were just just getting all the evidence together. Forensic testing for poisoning can take time. Never munch on a hunch. I haven't watched all the way yet but I can confirm as a mushroom forager that something as serious as a death cap is something we ALL know looks like, and always drill into our heads any time we come across anything edible to check every possible thing about the mushroom just to confirm it with 100% accuracy. A forager absolutely knows what mushroom they've picked.
@WobblesandBean
@WobblesandBean 7 ай бұрын
I disagree. I'm a biologist and forager myself. I know for a fact there are at least 4 separate species of edible mushroom in her area that are identical to death caps. Even advanced foragers can easily mistake one for another. Spore prints won't help you. And of course the ex would accuse her of this, he's her ex and his parents were the victims. I understand his anger completely, but I still don't think she did this on purpose.

@WobblesandBean thats the thing- Even if theres any doubt that it could possibly be death caps no one's going to risk that shit! Unless you can say with absolute certainty what mushroom it is you have, you don't eat it! Either it was intentional, or shes EXCEPTIONALLY foolish

Or did she just get lucky enough to be the only person to buy specifically those? She's clearly an awful person and is guilty as anyone could be. I hope she's convicted and I hope that the family sues and gets all of her money.

Hi everyone. I was born in Korumburra and went to school in Leongatha. My Brother, Sister and my Grandmother still live in Korumburra. My mum still in the wider area. My poor Grandmother has been beside herself with reporters camped out on her lawn. She lives right by Coal Creek. Her Erins husband was very lucky to survive her murderous rampage. Erin was a very experienced forager so there is no way that she just made a mistake. It will still be difficult to prove in a court of law. But I’m pretty sure the Prosecutors will have all their ducks in a row for a successful case against Erin.

@@fair98fair Constantly setting up the ‘Welcome to Korumburra’ sign camera angle that is on the nature strip near her front garden. Not much she can do about it. It is public property. But it doesn’t seem to be dying off. Quite the contrary. Seems to be more and more journalists coming from all over the world.

My mum grew up in the area and it was always drilled into her and her siblings not to eat any mushrooms they found. It's a common known fact in the area

The fact that she kept insisting "I would never harm them, I loved them" over and over felt to me like overcompensation I mean when someone asked "tell me about the soup" the correct answer would be "I didn't realize..." Or "I didn't know..." Or something not "I would never harm them"

Erin took the “til death do us part” and twisted it to fit in her dark and twisty mind. As much terrifying as it is heartbreaking.

Hey Mike! Happy Tuesday. I don’t know her, and I’m not all knowing, but I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if she (like you said) did this to nurse them back to health to be the hero and not to kill them. She had to know that it would easily be traced back to her if they died, right? Her crocodile tears though, my eyes rolled back so far they almost got stuck. Have a good rest of your week all of you fellow that chapter viewers!

You may be right. A little Munchausen to get her ex-husband back but she did attempt to kill him four times. These were some trusting people to eat her cooking after she had tried to kill her husband before he was an ex.

She obviously wants to kill them. Imagine if one mushroom can kill you, and she used enough to make a meal. There's no doubt she wanted them killed

I'm really curious to know her motive. Especially if its true that she tried to kill/harm the ex husband. Either she needed him (and the in laws) to be in a state to continue needing her, or she was angry they were going to split ways she wanted to take revenge. Surely she knew that even the tiniest amount is lethal?!
