Yeah, you can see that none are having hunger issues. I'm not sure if you've seen past videos, but all the hat foraging is not the sun of what they eat. They start the day with bana grass, and a mixture of assorted fruits, vegetables and hat are locally grown. Then when they come back to the he compound, they get another feeding. Then at night they have food in their stables. Adine and the Carers would not allow the Herd to go hungry.

But, they seemed to have been on high alert most of the walk too. But, this herd surly makes me smile a lot and I am always so excited too when I get to see them again. I wish I could give Fishon, Jabulani and also Khanisa a big hug and kisses too. this is a lovely video. Hope the camera suffered no damage from the swipe by Khanyisa :) how can wild elephants and maybe even lions get close to the same store of water that the HERD elephants visit? Are there no fences between the HERD land and the nearby nature reserve? often one sees Zoo confined elephants need attention given to their feet but the HERD elephants never need this - is that because of the natural way the HERD elephants live via long walks every day into terrain with different surfaces - rocky area, sand or vegetation filled areas. the long walks would also help keep them healthy and alert and give them lots of enrichment and wisdom re what they can eat and do.
@jaycuzman6253 жыл бұрын

Is Limpopo Jabulani's daughter?
@Debra-my9cg3 жыл бұрын
IMO Limpopo is Sebakwe's daughter if you follow the logic that in an established herd only the dominant bull gets to breed. Jabulani is second in the hierarchy ever since Fishan broke his leg in 2018. Anyway that's my 2 cents but Adine has said before that even she doesn't know bc she didn't see them in the act of breeding when asked this question before.

Since all these elephants are a "herd" , why would they not survive out in the wild...alone? Or are they just used to be taken care of by these wonderful carers and Adine that they would not survive without their shelter at night? Or would not survive in that area? I understand about Khanyisa, needing her milk, but do the others "prefer" to be taken care of?
@tamo95203 жыл бұрын
The herd going into protection mode is amazing to see. It's amazing to see that after being in the care of humans for a lengthy period of time, they still maintain and practice their wild instincts. @ 6:11, you can see that Tokwe understands that the humans are there to protect them all - to take over the role of protection as she kind of gives up that role when she turns to head towards the watering hole herself. She knows that her family is safe. I want to add that they understand their family is different than the one they were originally brought up in. (not the younger animals who were rescued when they were young, they would not know the difference). In the wild, the males don't run with the females, here, in their family, they understand and accept that. Do you wonder if they ever think that if the other herds only knew how well they had it, . . . . . how lucky they were, . . . . how spoiled they were? lol I do. Do the wild lions and jaguars ever come to use this watering hole? I have sooooo many questions that are really not appropriate to ask here on such a public forum. Mind you, they are just quizzical questions about the entire herd. Those shots between the legs are amazing! To see how they use their trunks, to see how they tusks actually form the side of their mouths, . . . to see how their lower jaw, which seems so loose, actually has so many muscles in it is simply amazing!

At first I thought Khanyisa was being silly when she bumped Adine, but now after watching again I think Khanyisa smelled the wild elephants while accidentally bumping Adine. Right after this moment thie elephants surrounded Khanyisa. I love how the matriarch stood there and watched Adine talk about it, ok it, and moved on. ❤ Also I don't remember it being so dry last year, can't wait for the explosion of green again. the elephants are incredible at picking up the scent of wild animals when they come into close proximity with them - if they come across lions in the reserve they will gather together and always surround the calves, while some of the bulls or older females will likely chase the lions if they are spotted.

I love watching these ellies every single day and the great work that you do and just wondered about the day that Mambo got "lost" and was trying to follow another herd. Was that for mating purposes...probably not....too young, right? I believe these ellies are loved so very much and know that all the carers are awesome and these elephants have been their life. Fishan is the big bull who broke his left leg and walks with a limp... Tokwe the matriarch has gorgeous long thin tusks with tips that turn inward to each other... Somopane is a big bull whose tusks you can't miss bc they are long and super thick!!... Sebakwe the massive dominant bull of the herd has a left tusk that looks like a fish hook the way it turns up. His right tusk tip is rounded bc he used it so much it chipped off!!... Mambo who is Lundi's son has a big triangle missing from his right ear... Good luck.. You'll soon know them all!! 👍🐘🐑🐑🐕💓💚💜💙

Hello from Denmark 🇩🇰 What a great beautiful start, I loved watching Timisa and Pisa running to join the family 🙌 It has been almost 3 years since Fishan injury and it’s make me glad to see him walking well 😊 It’s funny to know that Lundi has a habit of splashing Adine with water😅 Thanks again for sharing your beautiful photos and videos with us ♥️🙌♥️ ✌️🙋🏻♀️

You forgot Shona, the native language of the majority of the carers who are from Zimbabwe.... Is quadlingual a real word?? Lol!!

Tigere is always saying "agreeva" to them.. I should try to look up the translation???

@@Debra-my9cg I'm chuckling! I'm not sure, but you just made it one! Aaahahaha. And thank you for informing me, I wasn't quite sure as to what language they actually spoke. That was my ignorance speaking. Now that I know the correct language, Shona is what I originally meant so thank you for informing me. But to be honest, I like tht fact that we can say they are "Quadlingual", lol
@tamo95203 жыл бұрын
@@Debra-my9cg I think that we are going to have to get one of the H.E.R.D. members to tell us what he means. In google translate, I typed in agreeva, akreva, ackreeva, ackreva, agreava and got nothing when trying to translate from Shona to English. So then I went to English and tried to translate: come on, Come'on, hurry up, watch out, pay attention, hurry, and I actually forget a few more words that I tried and nothing came close to what sounds like 'agreeva', so I guess we'll just have to wait to see if someone can chime in and cler that up for us! lol

Oh, Lord, I do so wish I were there! I truly enjoy the walkabouts...and never tire of the sound of the scuffing of their giant feet, or the different sounds like when they're drinking water. Was that Pisa who was slurping? Fishan appears to be developing better flexion with his injured leg, and dear Kumbura--never far away from Kanyisha. Please don't let it end...

it's kind of a silly idea but I think it could be enjoyable. I imagine at least half of them have a story associated with their name. blessings.

Khanysia is doing very well she is becoming so independent. I love it when I see setombe and klaserie together. They have the closest bond to each other of all the elephants. I can't imagine facing Tokwe's group (Lundi, Setompane, Fishan, Jabulani and khanysia) if it were me being the danger to her Herd. Tokwe is by far the most protective of them all. Along with Lundi of course. Timisa is looking good and well without the bottle. Great video. Thank you.

How far did they walk today? I just get tired walking with them. And I wonder if Khanyisa also gets tired? Her little legs are so precious.

I think they do more foraging than walking. Once they get to a place, where get kinda hang out there. Then go to another location to find more food. The walking is essential for all elephants. I believe if they didn't get out and walk they acquire arthritis, and bone issues. It's to do with their size. They need to move and eat

Not at all, we were on a speedy mission to get to the dam and then the best grazing areas, which become in shorter supply as the bush changes with the winter season, the herd are very comfortable in the company of the carers who they know well. They did go on the alert in the video when they picked up the scent of the wild elephants.

What do the HERD elephants do if they encounter a wild herd of elephants out in the bush while on their daily walk? Or do the different herds try to stay away from each other pretty much? Which I figure they probably do but don't really know.
