What’s amazing is the humor of Gilbert and Sullivan holds up even after 100+years

I think "It seems so long" is one of the funniest lines in the play.

I saw her on Broadway in Pirates and the night I saw her, she got the giggles during Poor Wandering One....her and Rex Smith couldn't stop laughing. She came back out after her giggle fit was over and sang the song flawlessly!

That would've been hilarious. I just read in her memoir it was because there was an insect that got stuck in her lip gloss!

@@cici7739 Nothing like live theater! I was an unsophisticated twenty-something who was clueless about was happening in Central Park that summer. Must've been magical to have watched these two "rock stars" flex their musical muscles and see what they could do!

Same or another occasion, a member of the orchestra was playing so out of tune, Linda and Rex got the giggles.

Ahhh that summer in NYCs Central Park. Linda and the Pirates were the bomb. Gorgeous pipes brought us to a whole other world of music.

"It Really Doesn't Matter" is actually listed as "My Eyes are Fully Open" in the script. But I see why people would call it "It Really Doesn't Matter", because whenever I call it "My Eyes Are Fully Open" people don't have any idea what I'm talking about.

misfitsboy123 so what you’re saying is, it really doesn’t matter what you call it, someone will tell you you’re wrong? 🙂

Most songs from shows like this or operas in general had their titles given to them based on the first line of the song.

Linda stated in an interview years ago that they needed another Gilbert and Sullivan song for this particular production, so they threw in this one for good measure. I agree. It works well.

moderndaechristine you’re right! They wanted a filler song and Linda already knew this one so she suggested it. She originally thought she was going to be in Pinafore when she was offered the job. It’s in her autobiography, 8 or so years after your comment.

@Parker930 Lovely comment. If I knew then, what I know now, I would've hopped on the LIRR to Penn Station and found my way to Central Park that very summer, instead of just listening to Ms. Ronstadt blaring on my car radio enroute to the beach. Watching this video made me happy, not just because I am getting to see a snippet of what I missed, but also because I am getting to see a woman challenge herself professionally and realize her musical dreams while paying homage to the musical heritage of her childhood in Tucson. I am one of those people who Ms. Ronstadt not only entertained, but educated and enlightened. I am listening to artists and music that I either neglected or did not know about in my youth. Though she is now being slowly stripped of her physical abilities and vitality by her disease, I hope she is comforted by the knowledge that she did all she could, when she could to unleash all the beauty of her voice and illuminate the gifts of great composers and lyricists throughout history to the "musical unwashed" like me!
