If you listen closely, he's NOT just trading trucks for the (less powerful but better sounding) V8 engine. He's planning a lot of mods that would not be "financially" wise on that new $70k truck. He's buying the older one because it won't be a financial loss to do major modifications. He wouldn't be getting $60k for his 1 year old truck if he had major modifications that altered it much from factory. He'll need to do engine work to the older one to get the performance of the 3.5 EB. I just happen to have a 3.5 EB in my personal truck and a 6.2 V8 in my work truck. I traded in my 14 Raptor for a 2017 F-150 supercharged Roush. I liked the Raptor but it had its flaws... 1. It made alot of noise but was kinda slow. 2. The shocks are no good in cold weather and shit the bed even though the truck never seen dirt and cost a small fortune to replace. 3. Alot of wind noise inside the cab going down the highway. 4. It had the famous Raptor whine during start-up in cold weather (steering pump issue) that should have been a re-call along with the fuse #27 issue. Not too sure why Ford never addressed these two issues?!

Longevity of the turbo v6 is going to be less than the v8. Also, in the long run, the v8 will be less expensive to maintain and repair.
@MrJamesLuz4 жыл бұрын
People say this, but that doesn’t make it true. My friend’s 2016 5.0 with 35k consumes more oil than my 2016 2.7 with 37k. The V-8s with cylinder deactivation are complicated and not reliable at all. I would never buy a GM or RAM V-8 with those systems. The turbos are proven technology and less complicated. So, I like the way Ford is building trucks. The coyote is definitely the best of the V8s right now, but I like my eco boost better than any V8 I’ve owned.
@usalives25624 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not true lol the eco boost v6 is built unfucking real strong the 6.2 is relatively weak with a tight ring gap so if boost is ever added it pops quick. It’s amazing how uneducated your comment was.
@jmanlinc4 жыл бұрын
It's hilarious how people think the EcoBoost have more moving parts and will be less reliable. Turbochargers have one moving part, so once you take away two Pistons their valves and other components I'm pretty sure you'll end up with less moving parts🤔

Scott Cravens Not true. The 6.2 V8 is a stronger package than the EcoBoost. You are comparing a light duty passenger vehicle engine to a 3/4 ton duty truck engine here. 6.2 is a big bore cast iron block with cross bolted mains in a naturally aspirated setup. The EcoBoost or any half ton motor for that matter isn’t running with the 6.2 on longevity. The 6.2s are overbuilt for their purpose and Ford built them to work hard.

I bought a used 2014 Raptor it was a badass truck but little did I realize it had some much wrong with it in the first three days of owning it. Engine, transmission, gauges, it goes on. I was lucky to return it after they messed up the paperwork (wrong vin). Bottom line they say the Gen 1 are reliable and I don’t doubt they are if they’re maintained and taken care of. But everyone that owns drives them usually drives them hard. If you’re considering getting one get it looked over throughly. But personally I’d Stay away from a used one. New is the way to go on a Raptor

Could't agree more with this decision! I've got a 2012 Raptor and put 145k miles on it thus far, driving all over the USA. Nothing like the sound of that V8! Once this baby hits 250k miles on the odometer I only see two acceptable options as upgrades/replacements: MegaRaptor or BA350!!

I agree it’s more financially responsible to upgrade the Gen 1 .. unless you aren’t concerned about money.. but the Gen 2 cost so much more and is stock... if you take a Gen one..you can buy a nice one for $30k. which is half the price, nay 1/3rd the price.... now you can do anything you want to the Gen 1 for the remaining $30k. You can supercharge you can get all the bumper chase racks lighting and suspension upgrades done and still be under or about $60k and at that point... it’s not a contest as to which is a better truck.

@John John whats the crying about "personal finances"? Its simple numbers, doesnt matter who's numbers they are, numbers dont lie. If a guy cant afford to throw a bunch of money at modding a 70k truck and decides to downgrade and mod an older one, great thats his choice, but its damn obvious that such choice was made with personal finances in consideration. I'll take it a step further and would argue that if you cant buy a car/truck outright, you have no business buying it. Financing vehicles is a link in the slave chain which keeps the middle class poor in America.
