The King's Indian is an attacking opening, usually played by tactical players who like entering sharp positions. I played a varation which turns the tables and leads to a position in which white is the one attacking and black is forced to defend.

as a KID player, b6 is usually played not to fianchetto the light squared bishop but to support the knight on d5, as if white plays bishop takes, it is better to take with the b pawn than the d pawn

Hey so I rarely comment on videos, but I just wanted to say that this new approach with playing all „good“ first moves as white is a phenomenal approach not only to learn and appreciate all types of structures, but especially for you since I would argue your biggest strength is definitely opening understanding and if your opponent cannot properly prepare against you, this puts you at a huge advantage :)) thanks for all the great content too of course

Stepan, I played this setup for the first time vs. Kings Indian Defense, today after watching this video at lunch. I got a checkmate with the h pawn! Thank you, love your videos!

Amazing game. Crazy positions only. There's also lines where black goes gxh5 before f5, beautiful.

I hated facing the KID as an English player, until I learned the Makogonov variation (5. h3). It’s nice to launch the kingside pawns with white when black usually is the one to try this.

Enjoying the no-london arc. As a kings indian player those kinda games are very instructive.

12:09 I don’t quite understand why this position is so good. You are down a pawn but the engine probably says it’s good. But I am only 1400 FIDE myself and I wouldn’t know what to do in that position with white and would rather want to play black. Maybe I have a blindspot for evaluating positions down material with compensation but I have no idea what I would do there. But you are obviously the stronger player and the engine probably agrees too and says it’s probably like +1…

@luka_fn1879 Black's extra pawn is on g6 which makes it a weakness/target since there is so much pieces on the board. The white king is definitely the safer one and also Black has a terrible bishop. Looking at the heavy pieces, it looks like Black has some play on the f-file but in reality there is no entry point for the moment. White will be able to build up on the g and h-files and start putting pressure towards the extra pawn and the Black king. I imagine in some situations White's knight can jump to b5 and that will be useful. A huge factor for the engine evaluation is the king safety, basically White can keep building up the pressure, whereas Black has to worry about his king a bit.

@@crazypanda321 yeah I guess but I still if I got this position in a classical game with white I wouldn’t be happy and would be perfectly fine with a draw. Maybe I just need to practice playing those positions

At around the 12:20 mark why not bg5 pinning the knight to the queen instead of f3?

My question is why play the Semi-Averbakh over the Averbakh? The regular Averbakh gives black the chance to fall for lines that even titled players manage to go into. It also drags the black to h7 where it can be attacked more easily. Not saying the regular Averbakh is better, but it seems to be more venomous to me. More or less asking what appeals the Semi-Averbakh has for you.

Im KID player and your Semi-Averbach system setup is very interesting way to attack the KID .Instructive game i also can learn from it. I also Play similar position arise from Makogonov variation and many times ....thinking : is this ending can be good . Or i still search for attack g,h file options . Take Nc5 or not is good or bad strategy ....things are not do Simple often . Hard chess world ....one weak move and almost model attack turn into another chess lesson (defeat).Keep going and improve .

A great pity about sponsorship, it is an interruption uncalled for. Added to the channel's adverts, not conducive to the purpose of chess which is thinking. Much to your kudos in the past was your modesty and not trying to shove it down our gullet. Agadmatopr's room full of garbage is what happens otherwise

I've seen your "show" in the distant past and thought you'd be an IM by now, if not a GM. Did COVID mess up your tournaments too, or have settled being a KZbinr instead of a GM?

You don't need to put "show" in quotes. The obnoxious tone of your comment would come through just fine in the absence of the quotes.

@@germank7924Bro don't even try with that. "Did something happen?? I thought you were going to be a GM by now?" is bitchy tenth grade girl shade. He's playing tournaments all the time, working on tactics hours a day, expanding his opening repertoire. Obviously he's working towards his goal. You and I and everyone else including Stjepan himself know it's an almost impossibly ambitious goal but so what?

you don't deserve my time but somebody else might: every few years it's good to revisit our projects, our goals, our statements and share them with the appropriate audience. I invited him to share, or he might as well keep the "road to GM" until retirement, I can live with that @@diggitus

@@germank7924I just saw your username. Is English your second language? It's possible your fluency works against you here, causing people like me to assume your mastery of grammar would come with a mastery of tone. If that's the case then I apologize and would like to tell you that what you wrote reads as condescending even if you didn't intend it that way.
