I actually really miss my 2013 Dodge Avenger with a 3.6L V6. Mopar Catback and air intake, Hemi Fever Tune, and a larger TB. The best part, the sucker got 40 mpg on the highway when cruising. The best part, it gave the 5.7L Charger and Challenger a run for their money.

If you don't abuse the Avenger with the V6, it's a great machine. Quiet. Predictable tranny movements (unlike many brands) . Comfy ride. But like any car, I wouldn't buy used. Carfax means nothing these days. And people don't maintain their cars. The Pentastar is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Won't find a better engine in today's world of garbage they do to small 4 cyl's to squeeze power and mileage out of them. Period. End of an Era. Take all the 1.4T's 1.8T's 2.0T's with direct injection and stop/start and put them in a compactor.

I have a 2010 Avenger that I bought used about 6 years ago with out 50k miles on it. It now has about 147k on it (I have a long daily commute) and it still runs incredibly well. The only 'major' things I had to do on it was replace the alternator (which was in good shape but a seized decoupler pulley bent the shaft) and replace the upper radiator hoses when the filler neck broke. I do maintain it but I am a bit overdue for a transmission flush. Maybe I'm. Lucky, but so far I have had a positive experience. But you are right on the resale value. My car is basically worth nothing on a trade-in. More reason to just keep driving it.

If it worked great. If not and just slipping try som Lucas Oil for slipping auto transmissions. It swells worn out bands and may very well buy you a few more years if you’re not a street racer. I’ve see the stuff work and it’s under $10 so worth a shot As for Mr Badwrenches advice on lifetime oil just forget it. It’s doubly stupid in a hot climate. Honestly you probably should be using full synthetic auto tranny fluid there just because of the heat. Heat is what destroys transmissions and synthetic handles heat better period.

Although I will admit that dodge has a lot of power, they’re great, but they don’t stand the test of time too well, at least the ones from 2000 onward. The chargers are great, no problems but they’re newer. Now my ram, it’s a 2006. So far I’ve got a bad transmission, bad egr valve and an egr tube that just won’t stay on, an RPM problem that isn’t fixed by cleaning the throttle body, a tiny hole in the cat (don’t know how that happened honestly), and a snapped valve spring. Its been a lot, but it has been fun to work on. Just not so fun when you’re stranded. I love my truck because of the 5.7L Hemi, but damn do I miss my 2nd gen ram. That thing lasted almost 20 years with minimal maintenance. Only problem it ever had was a blown radiator, but that was bound to happen with everything we put it through. 1st and 2nd gen is where it’s at folks.

midget_beatles well I have a 03 dodge ram half ton with the 5.7. Mine doesnt have an egr on it because Chrysler only had pcv and cat for emissions. Also the 2003 5.7 are really good basic engines. For the rpms change your map sensor first, if that doesn't fix it then crankshaft position sensor. I used carquest for my parts. The problems I've had with my dodge is severe body rot and the dang German computers. Yes, Diamler used their German computers on 3rd gens. Also a coil pack had to be replaced. It's nice to know my fellow Hoosiers made multiple parts of my truck.

The weakest part is generally the automatic transmissions. If you buy a Challenger with a manual transmission, for example..... They do last a very long time. The 5.7 Hemi V8 is pretty reliable and even Scotty admitted he liked that particular engine, despite being built by Chrysler.

I AM AN AVENGER OWNER: 2011 dodge avenger express 2.4l. 4 speed., the 6 cylinder engine has a sealed transmission that requires dealer maintenance. the owner's manual says to change the atf fluid at 120k miles.. i was a bit late...i just recently had mine done at 155k miles, first ever as far as i know, i bought it when it was 2 years old at around 40k miles. i was a bit late in doing it, i was told the fluid was dirty but no other troubles, it's been 500 miles and 20 days since i had the job done and everything is fine, transmission shifts just fine. i certainly would not advise others to wait as late as i did, it worked out just fine for me. i insist that anyone doing this not to get it "flushed" the owner's manual says DO NOT flush. go to the dealer, it will be a bit more expensive but it will be done exactly as it is supposed to be done. ALSO IMPORTANT. make sure to ONLY use atf+4, DO NOT use multi vehicle atf fluid..as nearly all of them are incompatible with chrysler transmissions. i would not advise getting the service done way early..waste of money unless you are just doing a drain and fill, that is fine. as for a complete service that you need to go to the dealer for, like i had to, the mopar synthetic fluid that comes with it lasts a very very long time as i said..good for 120k miles. if you do a regular drain and fill every 50k miles or so, that should be sufficient, if you have neglected it..get a full dealer tranny service done no later than 120k miles. dealer service costed me 300$, i got the airbag recall done also, it WAS a bit pricey, but considering that 300 was the ONLY transmission maintenance that has been done in 7 years and 155k miles..it's not expensive, and i know it was done right.
@stephenmartinez1
@stephenmartinez1 6 жыл бұрын
you're probably right, but if the mopar atf is good for 120k miles then it must be a pretty high quality ultra premium synthetic fluid. 30k miles overdue for a very long interval of 120k miles doesn't seem to be really bad. i've also never overheated the transmission, done any towing or fall into the severe conditions category the owner's manual states: towing, police or taxi vehicle, dusty conditions. i am pretty glad everything is ok- and i got it done before problems started. even though it's 7 years old and has 155k miles, the car still seems and feels pretty new- it runs the same as it always has.

I had a 2008 Avenger 2.4 4-cyl as my first car. Installed a cold air intake, bigger throttle body, head back exhaust, and tuned the ecu. Managed to get it to a safe 201 hp. It was a sad day when she shut off in the middle of a drive thru and caught fire. It was an electrical fire that started around where the battery was.

I bought a 2014 Dodge Avenger SE with the 2.4L engine brand new 9 years ago and it’s currently at 71k miles. I’ve been very happy with the car so far. Only real repairs it has needed is a new throttle body at around 66k miles. I took Scotty’s suggestion a few months back and had the transmission fluid changed. The car started shifting noticeably better. Have had some weird issues that have all come and gone. First was under harsh acceleration the car would lose power for a second. That was around 45k miles and the issue has since gone away after happening for a few months back in 2019. Second issue was a weird electrical one where the cruise control wouldn’t turn on and sometimes the trunk wouldn’t pop. Again, it came and went in a few months. The third is an overheating issue. When doing highway driving for 30 mins or so, the car would randomly go beyond the normal halfway in the temp gauge. One time it did completely overheat and dinged at me. I pulled over and let it cool down. I found that if I put the heater on full blast and the temp gauge would go back down. In the month of May it happened every time I would drive on the highway. Then now it only starts to rise toward 3/4 temp once every few weeks. Probably a temp sensor that is going bad. But all and all I have loved my avenger a lot. I think it’s a pretty sharp looking car

I replaced the Gas Cap a couple weeks ago. Still performs like it's suppose to. No engine problems that I can remember happening. Gonna get new car battery before winter. Actually over all the best car I've ever owned. I did start using slightly larger-wider tires and that improved highway performance. I have seen a lot of rough sounding and looking Dodge Avengers on the road though...LOL

If you just want a cheap car it's way better to get a Kia or Hyundai than it is to get a Chrysler product. The things(Chrysler,jeep,dodge,ram) are practically broken from the factory and Korean cars are still cheaper and far better built than them. It's a no-brainer. But if you actually want a good car and don't mind paying a little more get something Japanese. Just not a Nissan, after the 90s they became the Chrysler of Japan lol

Bought my 2011 Avenger SXT new, and have about 100k on it, and I have never had one issue other than a couple of minor recall issues for seatbelt restraints. The Avenger is not a car you would buy for resale value anyway, as it's a reliable everyday driver that at the end of its lifespan you just trade in for something newer. I'm thinking it may be time to replace the original battery, but even getting 10 years out of a OEM battery is pretty good if you ask me. Bought my Avenger with 48k miles. Had it two years so far with no problems. People in this feed are complaining about HP and acceleration on the Avenger. Even though the Pentastar V6 is now considered average in terms of HP and acceleration it still beats many 4 cyl. (Stock) on the market today. Only time will tell when issues with my Avenger will arise but most people I know who own these cars love them. The depreciation rate is not terrible but is average. I like the looks of these cars because it makes most Japanese family sedans look boring and plain. Although I would like to have a Honda or a Nissan they are just way too expensive even with high mileage (I don't trust high mileage esp. on J cars). After hearing about the increasing popularity on reliability, looks, and lower cost I'm glad I purchased one when I did. Nissans are too plain and boring--sorry to the Nissan fans out there.
