I think there's a fundamental misunderstanding regarding Law's Awakening going around. At its core, Law's abilities only work inside of a Room, meaning the Room is the base of his ability. A regular Room is formed around Law, as in, he is always inside the Room as it is summoned. He can increase the size of the Room, but it will always increase in a radius around him. In simple terms, the center of the "sphere" that is the Room is Law, or it's inside Law. Upon awakening, Law gains the ability to create a Room separate from himself. That's all. He can put that Room inside of other people, sure, but it's not like he just now gained to ability to affect other people's bodies. That's something that he could always do, as long as the Room was big enough to cover them. Now the Room can be whatever size he wants, because he can put the Room in the exact spot where he wants to use it. Meaning it's consistent with other Paramecia Awakenings we've seen. It's the ability to extend your powers beyond your own body. Doffy could only create strings from his own body -> post awakening he could create strings separate from his own body. Law could only create a Room from his own body (i.e. using his body as the Room's center) -> post awakening he can create a Room separate from his own body.

If we go by the weather theory, BB's Yami Yami fruit would literally be encasing the world in darkness, quite fitting with his character. The concept behind Paramecia awakenings is actually pretty simple when you think about it based on what we’ve seen - It’s just the ability to invert the area of effect your ability controls: If a Paramecia only affects the user’s body, an awakening will allow the user to apply that ability/effect to their surroundings. Doflamingo and Katakuri fall into this first category. On the other hand, if a Paramecia normally affects your surroundings, an awakening should now allow you to focus and apply that effect to specific targets. This is the gist behind what Law and Kidd are doing: Law can operate on anything within the area of effect of his Room -> his awakening let’s him insert a ’Kroom’ into his opponent and operate directly on their insides. Kid can magnetise himself to attract or repel metal -> his awakening let’s him “Assign” magnetism to other people and objects

I think Chopper's Rumble ball is a psudo Awakening, and that in addition to the strength boost it also gives you full control over the zoan features not just limiting you to 3 forms (full origin, full Zoan, and hybrid)

remember it didn't do that before. His monster point greatly resembles awakening and when he used it pre timeskip he would also loose rationality similar to the awakened guards in Impel down. I don't think it actually grants him control at all, he had to train to obtain it himself. Rather I think it just alters the devil fruit "wavelength" or however you want to call it, making its abilities more flexible to change its properties. When he ate 3 in rapid succession, it would alter it too much forcing an awakening which he couldn't control. This also explains how he can use monster point with only one post timeskip, the drugs altering the fruit combined with his trainning to control it allow him to temporarily awaken post timeskip by making it easier to achieve. I also wonder if we will ever see others such as Luffy, eat the rumble ball. That would actually be a cool way to trigger Luffys Awakening without seeming too much like a deus ex machina. Luffy has already gained several degrees of power mid combat in Wano via Haki, but I don't think awakening should be obtained in that same manner. Haki gaining power mid combat makes sense and has been explained as such multiple times, but DF awakening, not so much.

Law's ability has always worked on opponents though. Laws awakening is the ability to make a small room that he is not a part of. He can place this small room and a "room portal" and can cantrol what happens in the room from the room portal. Kid, on the other hand, is peculiar cause he can turn people into magnets, but you could assume he can magnetize non-ferrous items in his surroundings as well.

Law's sword physically contacted Kaido to act as a channel for his powers (and haki) to work. While this is my headcanon, it's the explanation which makes the most sense: Law's power doesn't work against opponents with haki too strong _remotely._ His _direct_ abilities work, but still weakened because if his opponent's defensive haki. Because Law has to be within the room he creates to control things, that means his sword can't span the ENTIRE room. Big mom, for example, being out of reach of his sword means he can't swap her with Shambles, move her with Takt, or split her with Amputate, or use any of his direct attacks from a distance. However, Kroom allows him to make a room he is outside of where he can remotely manipulate everything within it as if he were directly touching it by manipulating the small room (kleiner raum -> KROOM) in his hand. His sword can now span the entire room, so he can directly attack everything in the room. So by making Big Mom the room, he can hurt her (even internally) from afar. This is just what makes the most sense to me, as well as being in line with how awakenings seem to allow you to control your environment outside the scope of your standard devil fruit ability.

@@zillva That's exactly what happened, Crocodile neglected his practical straight forward fithing skills, to the point that when cornered he has to fall back into gimmicks, like his secret poisoned hook. He never had confidence in his martial ability which is why he had to hide behind a giant secret organization and plot from the shadows. And he knew and was aware about his short comings as a fighter which is why his plan to gain power and conquer the new world was not to become more powerful as a fighter, but to get access to an ancient weapon. Crocodile could perfectly have awakened his fruit, but if he never bothered to train his haki and practical fighting skills, then when it comes down to a face to face brawl he was going to lose, and he knew this and acted accordingly. Is like how the Impel Down guards are awakened too, but neither of them show any skills as fighters relying heavily on the fact that they can just soak a ton of damage, and then spring back into action after a short rest.

There seems to be 3 different types of Paramecia. 1. “Enhancement” types like Luffy, Buggy and Jōzu, where the Paramecia changes the users body. “Emissions” types like Doffy or Magellan, where they can produce what ever substance their DF is. “Manipulation” types like Kidd or Bullet, where they control whatever substance thier DF is. So far we haven’t seen an “Enhancement” Paramecia undergo awakening. "Emmission" awakening massively increase the amount they can emit. "Manipulation" awakenings increase what they can manipulate. I would not be surprised if "Enhancement" awakening was something similar to Zoan awakenings rather then the other two types, increasing the amount to which the body can be enhanced.

The way I have always looked at paramecias, is that they are split in three categories: 1) People that can produce a substance or material, like Katakuri or Doflamingo. 2) People who can alter or manipulate things in their vicinity, like Law or Kidd and 3) People who have different body properties, like Luffy or Buggy. So the fact that Katakuri and Doflamingo as well as Kidd and Law have similar type of awakenings makes sense to me, and I would not be surprised if Luffy or Buggy have a different type of awekening.

I'd theorize a logia awakening as "event based". That is, awakening a logia isn't an extra ability the user gains but rather the creation of a "storm" that perpetuates forever or until the user "awakens" their logia again (or the next user does). So Akainu used his awakening on Punk Hazard, causing a violent magma eruption that is still going on. If he uses his awakening somewhere else, Punk Hazard would cool off and not be on fire but the new location would. This could possibly be why the grand line has such weird weather and currents but it would also mean a logia awakening isn't really a power up like it is for zoan or peramecia.

For Zoans, I think their awakening at first is a trade off where they become more primal but they get boosted so much in stats, that they become (nearly) unkillable, also for a low amount of time. This is similar to the drawback of Law and Kid's awakenings. There must also be a skill level in using awakening both in what you can do with it, as for how long it takes. Perhaps sometimes even permanently affecting something. I think it would explain why Kaido could never be killed despite being beaten and captured so often. His final and last option in battle is to use his awakening to become an beatable but unkillable beast. I think Chopper's monster point is an awakening and it takes practise to get better at it. First he was like the jailers of Impel Down who were more beast than human and they got a big boost in power despite probably being normal soldiers. Now Chopper can hold it out for 30 minutes. But what of someone who is king of the beasts and has mastered its awakening, how long could Kaido be in a state of awakening to make him unkillable combining his devil fruit zoan awakening, his conquerors haki coating, normal haki coating. The only thing which could buff him is some Germa technology which Sanji got a taste from.

All non-zoan examples require their devil fruit's will to extend beyond their bodies. Maybe zoans can awaken without Conquerors but it breaks their will, given their primal state when in that form.

Once you can see through the basics on what a df category awakening can do, you can speculate on what every other awakening will be like. Chapter 1030 confirms that you can also temporarily turn individuals into your ability. Based on the desperate situation Kid and Law were in, it made perfect sense for them to apply it directly on Big Mom. Meanwhile in the Katakuri vs Luffy fight, turning Luffy into mochi would not make sense. And Doffy never had much of a chance to turn him into strings either. Plus the effect would be temporary.

Maybe Bruno from CP9 is also an awakened devil fruit user. Well, his ability is to open doors. But he has shown two abilities which simply go beyond making doors in solids: 1. Opening a door to a separate dimension. Ofc we now have seen similar abilities with f.e. Brulé, so maybe this is just a non-awakened technique for Bruno's fruit as well. 2. He tried to open a door in Luffy, turning Luffy into a door. He mentioned that this would make it impossible for Luffy to defend himself (which is really overpowered). AND it fits with the "extending your power to opponents" explanation of awakening. Just some thought, I hope you can all poke holes into it :D

My opinion is that there are NO rules for awakening; it is simply the user accessing a higher level of energy output. Otherwise stated, an awakening for a particular devil fruit would look different for two different users. If Franky had Kid's DF, the awakening would look different because he would have a fundamentally different idea of what the next stage of his power could manifest. Think about a software program like After Effects, where there are basic tutorials you can follow. Once you master the basics, you can get into more advanced techniques. Two masters of AE would produce two very different versions of a work order. They would still both be masterful, but looking different. So, when you think about what a specific character's awakening would look like, think about that character's experience and personality. Luffy is very influenced by his experience, so his awakening could be more animal based (time skip experience) or look like exactly like Katakuri or exactly like Doflamingo ( because that is what he has seen). In the end, it is Luffys decision to choose what effect his awakening will have, it's just the next tier of energy output.

I think many theorists seem to forget that Oda could've easily shown us some awakenings without explicitly telling that he's shown them. E.g many fans believe that Big Mom has yet to show her awakening and expect her to become much stronger. But it could easily be the case that her ability of ripping off peoples souls might've come from her awakening, while using her own soul for homies is her actual power. You could argue similarly for gecko Moriah. His original DF ability might be to rip off peoples shadows and use them to make himself stronger. But his aweking might let him to use the shadows on other things like trees.

Katakuri and Doflamingo can "Make Stuff" from their Bodies, so awakening can "Make More Stuff" with their surroundings. Kid and Law can "Do Stuff" at the cost of stamina so awakening can do "Even More Stronger Stuff" at the cost of more stamina. But Luffy and Mr. 1 "Become Stuff", so who knows what they can do? "Become stronger stuff"? Katakuri can also "Become Stuff" in addition to "Make Stuff", but he's a special paramecia so he's a special case. Zoans "Get animal and physical buffs" and Awakenings get "More animal and Stronger physical buffs" Logia can "Become and make elements" and their awakened forms were able to change the landscape and climate into the element.

Crocodile being an awakened logia actually makes extra sense bc he talks about having focussed training on his devil fruit. Controlling sand also feels kind of different from absorbing moisture in a stone terrace and turning it to dust.

For a while I've thought that paramecia awakenings would basically be inserting the fruits power into other objects/people based on the information we got from Doflamingo. So far I've seen nothing to change that. Kid's awakening seems to be "make things magnets" and Law's looks to me like he's simply making rooms with other objects/people at their center/point of origin rather than himself (what he usually does). I'd expect basically all paramecias to work this way: Luffy turns other things into rubber, Robin sprouts objects that aren't part of her own body/clothing (ie swords, guns etc.), and Brook might put his soul into other things/people possessing them or he could have the ability to wake the dead and make them fight for him. (Big Mom's ability to steal/manipulate the souls of other people might be seen as part of her awakening as well based on this reasoning.) My guess for logia awakenings is that they're pretty similar to paramecias: turn other things into their element or simply make it come out of other things. The weather thing might be part of that as well.

TheShinobi_Sensei Agreed. At least with Conqueror's Haki inbuned with Ryuo, there's a throughline of setup. We saw it with Big Mom depowering Luffy at WCI and Kaido taking him out with a single hit. Plus, you had details with Roger and WB clash and them not touching one another. The revelation of awakening here I found was very sloppy. There was no indication that Kidd or Law could have done this. At best you use head canon which is bad writing. I am hopeful that Oda will clarify this because this is very uncharacteristic of him to do this. Even with something like future sight observation Haki, we had an entire fight(Luffy vs Katakuri) which was his way of allowing Luffy to train and get a hold over it. Here there's nothing.

I think the awakening type for paramecias are chosen by how the fruit operates. Ones that already affect the environment become better at affecting people while ones that only affect people become more capable of affecting the environment. Law & Kid could already affect the environment that's why their awakening is different. Buggy's fruit only affects himself aka a person so he would become capable of affecting the environment similarly would Luffy. That's a possibility I came up with just now based on what we've seen so far but to be honest another example could clinch the idea for me.

i think it would have been better forthe zoan awakening to be something that allowed zoan users sto partially transform certain sections of their bodys , like bird bird zoan user can just grow wings out their back or turn their arms into wings instead of having to do a full on hybrid transformation, or transforming just thier hands or feat into talons. The story makes this understandable because all fruits do different things so it makes sense that kidd was able to assign big mom because he is a magnet himself and for him to awaken and makes others things or people magnet fits. Doffy/katakuri awakening turning surroundings into their devil fruit makes sense cause no way they are able to turn people in to string/Mochi. Law fruit explains this because it shows how fruits are different with abilities like room, shambles, tact, etc.. u cant restrain all fruits to the same standard they all have unique abilities.

Morj, remember that it was Smoker who caused the rain in Alabasta after Crocodile was defeated. Aside from that I feel like the variances in paramicia fruits may be the reason why certain effects can be placed in people vs others like you said. Both Law and Kid have an emitter style quirk where they like cast an ability that cant necessarily be seen which I see as the reason Kid and Law could effect Big Mom with awakening. The way I see it Paramechia mostly get one of the two parts of a Logia fruit as separated abilities. They either turn the user into something, Enchanting them, or give them the ability to "shoot" their power outwards, kind of like how a Logia both turns you into the element AND is able to be shot in some way outwards. That said Enchanter type fruits have their awakenings by making you able to imbue something with the enchanting power (law's sword, Napoleon ecc) while Shooting types turn everything around you into your power

I really think that Luffy’s awakening will be almost exactly like Mr Fantastic + the ability to change his surroundings. Here’s what it says about Mr. Fantastic’a powers: Richards has been observed as being able to utilize his stretching form in a variety of offensive and defensive manners, such as compressing himself into a ball and ricocheting into enemies, flattening himself into a trampoline or a parachute to catch a falling teammate, or inflating himself into a life raft to aid in a water rescue. In the Alabasta case, it started to rain due to Smoker. He asked Hina to bring a Navy Ship that could make artificial rain. It's shown very subtly in an interaction they had at the end of Alabast Arc and it explains why Smoker had desapeared for a while during the final battle.
