Hmmm , I'm not buying your take. The US president didn't tell them to raise prices and declare themselves a luxury automaker. Stellantis hated seeing dealers pocket huge markups and figured they could just raise MSRPs and keep the $$$ themselves. They failed to realize it was a temporary phenomenon fueled by tight supply and pandemic handouts. GM didn't fall for this at all, and Ford did but to a much lesser extent. Now they are all suffering in proportion to the degree to which they fell for that greed trap. It has nothing to do with EVs, the same thing would have played out if EVs didn't exist. Stallantis was too cheap to keep paying V8 penalties - they didn't have to kill their V8s cold turkey the way that they did. It would have been much smarter to dial back V8s but not kill them, knowing that political winds may change for the better. Now the winds of change have blown but Stellantis already folded their hand and are out of the game. Stupid management decisions with no strategy or foresight. Stallantis management was the Ruzzian military of the auto industry...

This is best explanation on why Tavares was push out. There was no reason to raise there prices. Bottom line Stellantis don’t understand & will never understand the American customs, it’s that simple. If they keep with their stupid decisions they will fail.

Didn’t sell me on it. Tavares has been a controversial CEO for a long time, said to be hated for cutting costs too much to the point employees are forced to work in dangerous environments with poor pay and benefits. And from the moment he gained control of the Mopar brand, it has gone down the toilet. If Stellantis was smart they would’ve done what Toyota did. They didn’t discontinue any of their current ICE models, they just added EV models. Because they knew there was a possibility of EV not taking off like US Democrats were pushing for. ICE are far from dead, EV is not an end all solution, it’s merely an alternative option. And now they have to rebuild from scratch. I called it years ago and I was right. EV costs too much to produce and consume too much electricity. The infrastructure required is decades away and would make zero impact on climate change (which occurs without humans for those not educated on the topic).

Carlos didn't get the short end of the stick, he failed all on his own at a job he willingly took. His arrogant approach to sunsetting all things v8 and diving head first into the empty concrete pool that is today's EV market coupled with his asinine tactic of shedding people, buildings, and even everything that is nailed down to try to make stellantis look good on paper.. that's on him. That dude isn't fit to manage a lemonade stand, let alone stellantis.

You didn't convince me. Also, a lot of the info you're reading from those stories is in direct opposition to what Stellantis insiders are saying. And the NY Times? Seriously? Off the top of my head I can't think of many news sources I trust less than the Times. Tavares is a bad guy in this, he's just not the only one. John Elkann is as much or more to blame.

Agree that the idiots need to get out of the way and let people / consumers dictate what they want to buy and not buy. In the short term Ram might now be able to dramatically reduce prices ($20K+) per vehicle to clear out the bloated inventory on lots.

Interesting take, Bro. However the so-called “EV Mandates” affect the entire auto industry. Why are Ford and GM not in such bad shape? Tavares made some bonehead decisions and that’s why he’s gone. He spearheaded the “EV First” initiative so how can you say he didn’t want EV’s? Also, why does that truck have Dodge stripes on it? 😂

Carlos waited too long to jump on the ev bandwagon which left CDJR with almost no ability to have a smooth ev rollout over time like ford has been doing while still keeping very profitable gas cars in the inventory. This left CDJR a huge hole. Carlos rode the profit train and then made a hard left turn towards EV’s after raising prices astronomically this last 5 years and trying to be a luxury brand and forgetting who their customers were. His hornet failed, his Fiat 500e failed and continues to fail, they still have yet to deliver a single ev to market and the first one they said they’ll bring in 2024 is the Charger and it’s held up for quality issues and is wildly overpriced for the market that would consider a dodge. Now watch them rush the gas cars to market to try and right the ship. If this was just about the president in office then he should’ve dusted off the old fiat EV’s and got them out for $20k to get the carbon offsets at least. All he had to do was follow Ford and he could’ve kept selling V8’s and kept his profit rolling while he executed on his ev agenda. This will be interesting to watch for sure. But for the record, I’m glad he’s gone. How he used the most violent cost cutting measures with zero mercy here in the US will not be forgotten.

I think you’re wrong. I think EV is about control not emissions. Trump has said he will be rolling back emissions, EPA, and NHTSA. Sorely needed. 2027 standards are hopefully gone. And lets roll back to 20 years
@Drg2480014 сағат бұрын
That’s kinda how I feel. EVs may have some benefit for the environment but the amount of control someone could have if everyone went EV is a little scary. Although if self driving cars is where we’re headed, EVs are probably the only way to do that.

They kept killing off all the models that had been selling over the last 4 years for small CUV's that people don't go to Dodge to buy. They are basically rebadged Alfa's anyway. Another brand they tried reintroducing to the US market that people didn't want, along with Fiat. Now they have nothing to sell the US market and the American public has rebuked the EV mandate by not buying them. I'm a huge Mopar fan, but they've taken away everything that made them what they are. The fact that they haven't updated the heavy duty segment, at least not significantly, in a decade and half has caused buying to defect to other brands. Hell, even I'm considering a Chevy or GMC for my next heavy duty truck because RAM doesn't compete as well anymore. Down in power, down on space, down on size(bed). And comparing trim to trim, exact equipment, the RAM is always MORE for an older design! It makes me sad.

Sergio Marchionne acquired an improving Chrysler Corporation by assuming debt. An incredible bargain for the weak, underperforming Fiat. The merger with PSA after the death of Sergio was a lifeline for the Europeans. I grew up with my Dad owning a Hemi powered 1956 Chrysler New Yorker Wagonand a 1957 Dodge Royale sedan. Later, he acquired 1968 Dodge Fury wagon. By the late 1970's my Dad acquired another hemi, .......a Toyota Corona. After my dad went to the dark side of the hemi world. I became a keeper of the Mopar faith. I bought a variety of Dodge Darts (v8 and slant 6), several v8 vans. But as a car guy, I like machines. So I do also have Ford and GM machines. And in the past I have owned Fiat, Datsun, Datsun, and I dare say Hyndai, vehicles. That being said, the automotive industry has ups and downs. But the pricing of Mopar brands was always 5% less than Ford or GM in my lifetime. Plus the Mopar brands usually had bigger discounts too! Carlos made the Mopar brands more expensive than Ford or GM! As far as the mix of vehicles for sale, the market is evolving. But the most recent sales boost to the Mopar brands was the ZF 8-speed transmissions. That transmission made the Hemi really sweet, and helped the Pentastar be tremendous success! Now that the Cummins will get the ZF 8-speed, the trucks will be better than Ford and GM again. The issues of confusion over electrics and internal combustion engines is silly. Electric systems have improved, but have a portion of the vehicle market. Hybrid drives like the Ramcharger are likely to do much better. And possibly become the mainstream market. But for the foreseeable future, internal combustion engines will dominate. They will see changes. We will see longer strokes like in Hurricane engine, which should have been a 4.0L. We may see a v8 based on the Pentastar, and hopefully a longer stroke also. People write all kinds of stories that may be wishful thinking. But the European styles might be hot for ladies clothes. But for cars, the European way is a dud. Carlos could not see what Sergio learned.

Sergio Marchione brought real accountability to the company top down. The moment he died, the FCA reverted back to business as usual. A merger with the weak European Groupe PSA certainly didn't help either. In a sense, it was like that moment back in 2020 when Biden took over from Trump and tried to undo all Trump's policies.
