The one reason why Chevy is better than Ford these days is that Chevy wasn't the ones that knowingly put defective transmissions into their cars. Ford did that in the name of profit and now has to settle a class action lawsuit with Focus and Fiesta owners that will cost the company big bucks.

Pontiac; When the federal government bailed out GM, they forced them to dump Pontiac as part of the bailout. Scotty those trailblazers envoys etc the fuel pump level sensor wears out on those aftermarket fuel pumps, so if it has had a fuel pump replaced with an aftermarket one the little fuel level sensor fingers wear off because they aren't as thick as the OEM. This caused the fuel gauge on the dash to stop at say 1/4 tank. Ask how I know, my wife ran her 2003 Buick Rainier out of gas a few times before I figured out it might be the problem, same thing with most aftermarket fuel pumps for GM vehicles, don't buy anything but delphi or AC delco. Lived thru this on my 1999 tahoe.

Had a 1984 Chevy Caprice classic it was a 305 naturally aspirated carbureted motor it didn't have fuel injection
@theroyalcrownedtiger29464 жыл бұрын
The Chevy Caprice Classic is a great car, In the 80's they were the main cars used by taxis and police, I have seen some with 1 million kms on the odometer, original motor, original transmission. The 80's Caprice is a large rectangular boat but they are super reliable and very durable. The original Caprice Classic existed until 1996 or so. At least in the 80's and 90's the Caprice and Impala were basically the same car. One could still say that Chevy discontinued the Caprice Classic in 1996 or so, and kept making the Impala, you could say it's a Caprice, and the Impala was made until 2014 or so, as I remembered. I believe the Caprice PPV overtook it at that point. The Impala and Caprice PPV seems to have become different vehicles. The Caprice / Impala has been around for very long time, not sure about the 60's and earlier, but I know there is 70's version. I knew someone that had the 1988 Chevy Caprice Classic, in the early 2000's.

You're on the right track with the Highlander, but I'd look at a 2004-07 before a newer one like a 2017. The less you spend on a car (and that generation of Highlander's pretty reliable), the less student debt you take out -- that stuff's no joke; people my age have been unable to buy houses because of it. If you want a boxy, reliable car with SUV-like presence, a 2004-06 Scion xB is a great, very affordable option. The 2009 and on are OK, but kind of slow and fuel-hungry, and have worse rear visibility.

A recall cannot be fixed right away because the manufacture needs to get the fix or remedy available. You can go online and put VIN to check if your car is recalled at NHTSA's website or the Toyota owner's page.

My first car was a 1947 Chevy. I paid $50.00 for it. The thing was, it ran really well, but that was in1965. I bought from a gas station mechanic. I ended up selling it for $300.00.

@@umbraviventem I actually had a good experience with a Mazda Ford era car. Had a 2000 Mazda Protégé 1.6L auto with 190k miles. Mostly did simple maintenance. It did have a Ford transmission, but it wasn't like it was a complete junker. Had to get rid of it recently because how badly it rusted. If I cleaned it more, I would still be driving it.

There two things I find that kills fuel pumps in cars. One, people never change their fuel filter and the pump is working too hard and the other is letting the car run close to empty most of the time. The gas acts as a coolant for the pump because those are little motors that run constantly and they get hot. When you have at least a half a tank of gas most of the time, it is submerged in gas and it runs much cooler.

Scotty, I used to have a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer. My Dad bought it back in 2004 with 40k on it and I got it back in 2014 and it had 280k on it when I got it and we got rid of it once it hit 300k because it blew a head gasket. Up until that point, it had been pretty reliable and never had any major issues. We just did routine maintenance on it that’s it. I was sad to see it go honestly.

Pontiac often did have some differences though. Some models offered all the "sport" options as standard, as where if you tried to get the same in an Oldsmobile or Chevy would take a lot of finagling in getting a custom order done as those models wouldn't ship to a dealer that way. Usually it would be differences in suspension, steering ratio, and final drive ratio in the transmission. And sometimes you got a nicer instrument panel layout compared to the other GM brands. So if you want a floaty couch you got the Chevy, if wanting some fun and a more glued to the pavement feel with the same platform you went with Pontiac. Other than that it was true about being different dressing on the same platform.

I had a 2006 Dodge Stratus with 4-cylinder that got 325,000 miles and ran perfectly...until a person hit me head-on at an intersection. Thankfully, it was slower speeds, and no real injury, but the car was a total loss. So sad! Great car.

@Dark Kingdom so you would base your decision making between 2 companies based on ancient history and not current performance? I wonder if you do that in anything else in your life. The Ford Henry Ford created and the Ford of today are DRASTICALLY different and have very different goals and ideologies.
@umbraviventem4 жыл бұрын
@Dark Kingdom only reason I would ever get a ford is if I need a strong truck. And that is mostly because when you think truck the first thing that 99% of people will say is F-150. Though I like the Tundra way more, I know ford in general has much stronger trucks for the price. Dodge is a joke all around, and only time I think of a dodge is when I think of the "too much ram, not enough dodge" meme. As for gm/chev well I drive a yukon xl with almost 300k miles on it and after 20 years and she is still a beast.

Thanks for all your new videos, that you posted today. These videos will help other individuals, whether if they are looking for a used vehicle and how to maintain and repair their vehicles themselves. Anyway, a used Subaru is a lot better than a used Dodge for reliability. A used Hyundai is also slightly better than a used Toyota for handling. What are your opinions on a 2002 Subaru Outback H6 L.L. Bean Edition and a 2008 Hyundai Sonata V6? The Outback has the 3 L V6 engine with 212 horsepower and the four-speed automatic transmission and the Sonata has the 3.3 L V6 engine with 235 horsepower and the five-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift capability.

I beg to disagree to a degree, both trucks have downfalls, almost every Chevy I have owned has had their share or problems the biggest one I am currently dealing with on my 2 chevys are door issues, my one truck 1998 3500 has been the door hinge pin, the bushing has cracked numerous times to the point the door sags, last time I repaired it I put steel bushings in place with some machining of the bushing part, so far it's worked but door still says minorly (I can close it so that is what counts) my other 2013 2500 HD has a similar issue the hinge have way to the point that is did structural damage to the actual door, the metal where the hinge is attached to literally have way, the only way to fix this is replace the entire door. I ended up removing door spring which alleviated the stress on the metal door area so it does not flex and break any worse. Door hinges on chevy have been a longstanding problem with chevy trucks. Within the first 2 years of purchase I have had numerous warranty issues where truck had to be taken into dealership, one being that the rear brakes had faulty assembly causing stuff to prematurely break. Both truck have issues as I also have owned fords also, as to generally dependability with start up that is a toss up as I have had little issue on that aspect. My issues have been everything else.
