Oh well Scotty kids are 10 times safer in the back of that GM than in your 94 celica. That's why I drive a full sized half ton I have young kids. That and the traction with all the weight in the winter storms up north. You can only get rear vents in the new design lol 2019 or newer. That and they centered the steering wheel and made round wheel wells instead of square. I think I'll keep my dodge.

Part of the trick is who you are. I buy the cheapest new Silverado work trucks, they cost about the same as a lower end car (upper teens, lower 20s). If you use a truck as a commuter car, that's the best idea. Most guys who traditionally buy high end trucks (theoretically commercial vehicles), are able to write them off on their taxes. I know a guy who buys a new Silverado each year (he owns 2 at a time, for his company so every year they trade 1 in), and trades them in at the 2 year mark, when they each typically have 250,000 miles or so. When it's a tax write-off, it makes a lot more sense. Obviously office workers can't justify the expense unless they're well paid.

@jackstacey75194 жыл бұрын
amani mango Not really. That was more of a 1950s thing where you traded for a new car because they styling was out of date every year, and your engine was whupped by 100,000 miles because of poor quality oil and less advanced tolerances. Not at all uncommon to see 15-20 year old vehicles driving around today. Look at pictures from the ‘70s and you’ll very rarely see a car from the 1950s. People keep vehicles longer today than they ever have.
@codyb19094 жыл бұрын
@@jackstacey7519 Also cars today are more reliable in the sheer mechanical aspect. What really holds us back is nuances in technology. Cars without high tech aren't valued as well. I drove it from 2009-2020, over the years I replaced the water pump, fuel pump, front wheel bearings, and the a/c belt. All repairs were made after 170,000 miles. I traded it in on a 2019 Silverado LD 4x4 5.3L. Wife drives a 2013 z71 5.3L. Chevrolet makes good trucks, until one lets me down I ain't changing brands.

I actually own a 2015 Silverado that is now coming up on 69,000 miles. To date the only work done on it outside of routine servicing was front brake pad replacement and a battery, not unusual for a truck of this age and mileage. Although properly maintained, this truck is not "coddled". It is a daily driver and weekend work truck. I commute 300 miles weekly and often make road trips averaging between 400 and 900 miles round-trip. I haul and tow with this truck and it continues to perform well. Vehicles built in the last 10 years, foreign and domestic, have routinely become more complicated, especially with the greater use of computer based components and demands for more creature comforts. I can guarantee most of them have some repair that is more complex and costly than they were on models of previous years (adjusting for inflation). One can make a case that cost, service and repairs on newer vehicles overall are more complex and expensive than vehicles built over 10 years ago (again, adjusting for inflation). Singleing out the Silverado for the complexity and cost of a single repair is completely uncalled for.

I may have small minor issues with my silverados but that’s because they are over 10 years old but never had to put a new engine or transmission. My dad has a Ford and a year later the seats started fading and he had to put in the shop three times where it stayed a week. He ended up having to replace the braking system and the engine harness and the tried to fix his transmission that was slipping. My husband had a Ford and thought they were great because they did not take a bailout he ended up selling it back to Ford because it had soo many issues. Each brand is going to have issues but I have owned nothing but silverados since I was 18 and has had no horrible issues that cannot be fixed myself or reasonable by the dealership.

He is obviously talking about Modern Chevrolets. 90s and 2000s Chevy trucks were great. Modern ones are cheap and seems like it was made lazy. Which is why Ford is killing GM and Dodge. They make their modern trucks with way better quality

Dan Bouchard It all depends how you service your cars, sure you may get some defective ones here and then. I have a few customers with these typical types of trucks that come to our shop and we service them regularly, and have mileages between 150k-250k miles from 08-15 models, no issues whatsoever.

@@rattlehead7281 That was the best generation of the last 20 years. They will run forever if you take care of them. I've seen a few 07 to 12 models needing costly repairs due to the cylinder deactivation.

The early trucks were great trucks. Well built, smooth ride, good performance. Good resale value if they were maintained and free of rust or minimal rust. The newr p.o.s. You can have 'em.

ThinkkOps yeah, this guy finds one, with a messed up tailgate handle, and with AC issues. Oh, I’m going to make a video saying the trucks are bad. One vehicle doesn’t represent all of them. One could find a Tundra with similar issues. It’s probably not a common thing, but it’s possible.

I bought a 2003 Silverado, drivetrain was perfect, 4.8 liter engine with 4L60 trans, I racked up 298,000 miles before the transmission went south. Couldn't ask for a better engine and transmission. The tailgate handle broke a few times, the door handles broke, the real kicker for me was the instrument cluster, the all electronic cluster failed at about 100K, gauges quit working, the unit is keyed to the VIN and mileage so you can't just run down to the parts store and get one, it has to be programmed for your vehicle. I was down for 2 weeks and out $300 for a rebuilt instrument cluster. It was all over you tube with videos on how to replace the instrument panel and a bunch of companies were already rebuilding the panels so I know I wasn't alone. Then my mother in law had a 2012 or 2013 leased chevy and the same thing happened, wife had a trail blazer and the same thing happened. Quality at GM sucks. I bought a used Toyota, great truck. It probably has the same kind of instrument panel with servo motors to move the needles, but I have never met anyone who complained about replacing their Toyota instrument panel.

Don’t be fooled by the Toyota talk they have just as many problems if not more so than GM and Ford. They are made from the same parts from the same factories as GM and that’s a fact. There really is no difference anymore. Part sourcing went international years ago. Magna produces parts for GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen, Kia, Hyundai, even BMW.

Its a very well documented issue with the gauge cluster and pita to fix. Mine needed new soldering too and my son just soldered in new motors on all of them.
