Luxury cars are often the first to get innovative features. All the way down to safety that is on every car nowadays. It doesn't really turn heads anymore and no one gives a damn about a v12 engine nowadays!
@valentin58016 жыл бұрын

@viimelaanpere47386 жыл бұрын
Exactly. The car itself is top notch, it was above 100 000$ when it was new and it still has options that many cars don´t have today and it that aspect BMW 7-series, Audi A8 and Merc with their S-class are the ones who come up with new features (Audi A8 with LED-matrix head lights for example). Running a low mileage 7-series, well kept car would take at least 10-15k a year as a second car, considering you have competent service station. If a 7-series BMW was previously owned by some careless owner, it would take a lot more. There are things that fail with E65/66 BMW, including the audio system (in most cases it´s the amplifier), also steering rack because of the enormous weight of the car. The Infotainment system of this BMW was also something new for a 2002 model year, a in 2003 it was introduced in a E60 5-series. It was a new thing back then and it doesn´t seem special now, but kind of shows that BMW set the trend with their system.

drjd2real - The chauffeur would appreciate the V12 engine. Especially when he’s not paying to fill it up with gas. People who can afford cars like the 7 series brand new usually don’t drive them. So it’s kind of redundant IMO to jam all of those driving aid features to be enjoyed only by the chauffeur.

I see these comments everywhere, but I don't know where the rumour started. I have an E39 from -02 as an everyday drive. It's got almost 300 000km on the meter and most things still works and feels solid. Had it on inspection yesterday and got two remarks: headlights too foggy and parking brake not strong enough. This is the second time I own one of these, and to be honest I've had zero failures on the electrical gizmos. What really breaks these cars is the brittle plastics used for pipes and hoses in the engine compartment. Other than that, normal maintenance will keep you rolling for years. Great quality cars!

This car is still amazing to this day. It is one of the most beautiful body designs BMW ever did. And people say BMWs aren't reliable but this isn't true. You do the maintenance on this car and they are known to last. Yeah it can be costly but you expect that from a car this high end. I still see these 750 and 760s on the road today so that says something.

Beautiful car, but way too many electronic/mechanical interior parts to fail. You're gonna need very deep pockets to fix that vehicle when the time comes. We had a brand new Black 735i with a front spoiler, fog lights and many extras. Back in 1985 that car cost $40,000, so 21 years later $120k sounds about right.

This BMW was way ahead of it's time and with the quality and engineering that is sadly missed in today's BMW's. I've owned BMW's for 20 years and have since moved to an American luxury truck. I disliked the change from the naturally aspirated v8's to those cheap jacked up turbos. Also the handling prowess that earlier BMW's had is sadly missed along with the exclusivity in luxury in their vehicles today. From around 1999 to 2005 or 2006 they seemed to have had their best years and product lines. It's been all down hill from there, as there are too many models and they charge too much money plus they give you less quality and less vehicle. A sad testament to what was the envy of all other auto brands, as a ultimate driving machine and one of the great world class automobiles.

zeroyon223 for sure, I'm glad that there is a trickle down on normal cars. Generally you can't scan to figure out shorts, burnt relays, or actuators. Symptoms can be really bizarre if something is half dead. I think that is when you can use forums to any great affect.

Now im 27 yrs old and cars like hondas now have dual screens paddle shifters Bluetooth heated seats but ofcourse still missing alot of the technology this bmw has, im thinking the 2024 hondas will have a fridge for my lunch and seat controls in the back seat for my daughters to be comfortable... i owned a 745li, it was the worst car i ever owned, repeatedly broke down and repairs cost a fortune as well as parts, not to mention that you can't move it at all unless it's on (can't put in neutral while off) it came down to the point that it was burning oil and shooting out smoke on one of the mufflers due to me being unable to fix it yet having to rely on it, such a fix required to pull out the engine and that was costing 4k! not even at the dealership either but at a bmw certified mechanic shop, im just glad its off my hands now, sold it as it was for 1.5k, because really, that car was just a bunch of high-priced junk.

rc121crx I agree. But it's probably because of the type of this channel..As far as i can tell from the couple of videos i watched, this channel is not about the usual new (expensive) cars you would normally see on most car reviewing channels, but rather about old (and most of the times ugly :p) but therefore cheap, reliable, and easy to fix cars that just get the job done for a small budget. So people here say they would rather drive a corolla than a 7 series or some Mercedes. They feel like this car is a money waste and therefore hate on it.
