Coming from family with a father who is a funeral director it's really fun riding around in a hearse. I almost bought one of my dads old hearses off of him, but the gas guzzler part drew me away and towards a used 2008 Ford Escape at 150,000 miles which I had for 2 years(21,000 miles) with no problems until I was rear ended and it damaged my rear frame rod causing the repairs to cost over $6,000 when the car was only worth $4,000 at that point. Oh and I bought it for $3,275 and it was my stepdad friend who owns a tow and repair shop.

I bought a 2017 Ford Escape last year with 13000 miles . It's been a fun car to drive and it rides nicely for a small SUV . It has the 1.5 Eco boost with a turbo . I really don't drive it hard mostly in city driving . I've heard the horror stories about these . I'll probably keep it till it hits about 75000 miles hopefully . I do change my oil every 3000 miles regardless of what is recommended , so far it has 19000 miles and it's been everything I need . Hopefully I'll get 3 more years out of it ! I love the ford escapes as I had a 2010 before this but I think if I buy another ill go with the 2.5 liter . Fingers crossed here lol .

I trust Scotty, but I don’t take his word as the gospel. First, here in Wisconsin we have a much different climate than he has in Texas. Weather wise and financially. Here in Wisconsin people generally drive older vehicles. It’s very common for people to drive high milage vehicles. 200,000 miles is nothing for a car up here. Go out to a local junk yard and you will be hard pressed to find a vehicle out there that is 10 years old without 200,000. Heck in some old Chevy Astro vans 350,000 is normal. Second, yes Scotty know what he’s talking about but he’s defiantly dealing with people who drive their cars hard. I drive a vehicle that on numerous occasions he’s called unreliable or a junky car, but because I take car of my car it’s been extremely reliable. Don’t only base your opinion on what Scotty says or thinks because otherwise we will all be driving Toyota Tacoma’s, Toyota Corolla, and Toyota Camerys, or Honda’s with manual transmissions.

Hey Scotty. Just sharing my experience. I had a 2016 Ford Escape SE ecoboost. It was a car for work. Mostly highway driving from state to state. Never had any problems accept for the emissions valve getting stuck open around 80k. But that didn't impact the engine's performance. had to replace the breaks a twice (not sure if Firestone did it correctly the first time). Replaced the tires around 80k. Did oil changes every 10k w/ conventional oil. Had to swap out the car because the job won't let us drive cars over 100k. But I sold it to an uncle @100k. So far no issues. I believe it was the 2.0L ecoboost. I admit there were many times that I wasn't gentle on the engine, as the car felt like it packed some muscle under the hood for its size and weight. The torque was enough to give me and the passenger a good push back in the seat. Also, I only ran premium gas (mostly BP and Mobile) in the car. Not sure if that helps with the turbo charger, but just an investment I made should I have chosen to keep the car for myself. Again just sharing my experience. Not sure what could've caused two turbo replacements of your Ford Explorer you did a vid on. But then again I had a much lighter SUV, with different driving conditions than the typical driver.

Scotty! Great videos. Question: A small motor w/ an added turbocharger would wear out early because it is asked to develop more hp than it's designed for. Generally smaller bearings and light duty parts. But it's not the smallness that kills it. It's the idea that it was designed for low power. There's no reason Ford couldn't build a small engine w/ larger bearings and stronger parts if they know they're putting a turbocharger on it. Small diesels don't wear out. They're built properly. Ford is just not building them to last. I guess that wasn't a question, but if you have a rebuttal, I'd like to hear it.

Got rid of my 2014 escape for a 2009 Subaru Legacy(with 30K less miles). The escape had constant problems. Radio went out and was going to cost $800 to fix. Turn signal quit working and to replace it required removal of one of the wheels and partial removal of the fender. Some sort of emissions device failed and caused it to not start for several minutes after refueling($300 to fix). The Subaru is older but still has AWD and from what i've seen they are way more reliable. Although it is a manual shift unlike the escape, but you can get them with an automatic transmission too.

But, if I was to have just one I would love to have a 1985 1/2 Mustang SVO. They had bad turbo lag but they were a really fun car. Finding one now is next to impossible. The Lexus, however, has a beauty cover that hides the ugly mess of hoses and wires, port & direct injectors, coils blah blah blah blah. I had a 2016 Ford Escape Titanium and it was a great car. No it didn't have the 1.5 liter engine but if you have somebody come in with half a quart of oil in the pan the cause is more than likely poor maintenance or the rare engine defect. On most turbo cars most people don't start or stop them correctaly when you start it let it IDLE for a second or two so the I'll can get their the turbo can spin 120000 rpm with no oil when you stop let it IDLE a bit to cool the turbo or the I'll will boil and turn rock hard cloging oil ports

Scotty what car would you recommend for a international student to the US (I'm from the UK so I'm used to standard transmission... never used autos) I do like kinda techy set ups and I think total including insurance ... I'd have about $12,000 (tho total I'd prefer $10,000 or under because never know about repair costs) also are there any good and consistent review channels for the US ... like carwow or similar (for a UK example?) Reliability is the main thing ... tho I do have a like to touch screens

We just traded off our 2015 Ford Fusion. Last Ford I buy unless its an old classic. We were lucky and had the 2.5l engine that was supposedly the best engine they never had problems with. Well at 22k miles the car had a cracked head. Ford fixed it, but this is a common problem with these cars. Then 2 years it ran ok then the misfires hit. Between that and the other nick pick issues we went and baught a Camry. I hear the Eco-Boost engines are hit and miss. They are bad about having leaks and bad high pressure fuel pumps that can fail and damage the engine. Run from any domestic made car or SUV right now IMO. Get a Toyota,Mazda, or Honda.

Kevs2good Ive heard they have been having a lot of issues with the post 2018 5.0 now since they made changes. I guess oil consumption from bad plasma coating on the cylinders, and they put GDI on it. I have a 2015 with the 5.0 and it has been great. If I got another one 2018 or newer though it would be the 2.7 eco boost since they added port injection back to it, or I would get the 3.3 which I think is a pretty overlooked motor if you don’t need to tow a lot. It’s infuriating they perfect something and then have to go screw it up.

Thank you Scotty, I have a question, I have a Honda Odyssey 2006 touring trim, with around 175,000 miles, runs great except when accelerating between 45-60mph, I feel some rattle on the wheel and then at 60mph or higher it goes away. Stay away from the Ford escape years 2014-2016. The engine was ok for me but the transmissions are garbage. Even the tech at the dealer admitted the factory clutch plates in the ATs were weak and fell apart prematurely and destroyed the entire transmission at 98K. I was fortunate to have had a 100K warranty and Ford replaced the AT with an upgraded version. Sold the car right after.
