I love how deliberately disingenuous people like Amandla are. The show was cancelled because it was bad. It was created by someone, who has no passion for the Star Wars Universe, who wanted to make a show equivalent to her 'experiences' as a lesbian, was gifted to a nepo baby with the acting range of a potato and it tried so hard to make the peacemakers of the galaxy into the bad guys, because they didn't trust lesbian space witches. It was the worst viewed Star Wars show across the board and all that the fandom did, was point out how bad it was, Leslye and Amandla did all the heavy lifting on making such a pathetically bad show. Not to mention that Leslye was Harvey's assistant, during the height of his 'criminal activity' that she has to have know about it. I would even wager that she even helped and knows where some 'bodies are buried' which is why she was gifted this by KK.

I once thought though they were specialist fields only the talented got a go after gaining industry experience as other than acting/directing there's no formal qualifcations for jobs like producer, show runner etc. Once you'd start at 'tea lady' or 'mail room', hopefully possess an imagination or creative writing ability then work your way up. Today contacts alone and/or belonging to x y z minority gets you in Hedland's case a $200M budget, a famous IP as a plaything and to point at X young actress and say 'that one'. Ditto ROP showrunners. Bullshit the head of Prime you know more about Tolkien than you do though you've had half a writing credit each in 10 years and bingo. No wonder we get crap.

I do think that the problem is that escapism is no longer escapism. If there is any Action, Adventure, Laughs, Fantasy, then it’s smothered by messaging of one kind or another which changes the product from entertainment to “education”. I got into Comics, Sci Fi and Fantasy as I could escape my real world for an hour or two and not think about my life and what’s going on in the world. I came out of Deadpool Wolverine after an incredible reaction from the audience that I haven’t experiences during and at the end of a film for many years. I was and am hopeful the financial success alone would or certainly should show that a film like deadpool wolverine should be the template for the future. To entertain, thrill and make your audience thrill and ultimately want more, a lot more of this kind of material. I’m hopeful but probably only if Ryan Reynolds ends up running MARVEL with Hugh Jackman as his deputy. A man can dream cant he?

To support Shad's comment - the Kotor games are different from the movies, expanding upon the Force in ways the films don't even touch upon, and defining a lot of lore that the movies never introduce. However, those games were so good that most people consider them nearly as formative for the EU as the original trilogy and they are a foundation of much EU canon. People will accept deviation from the original material if it is done well.
@marychocolatefairy2 ай бұрын
Yeah, funnily enough, the two KOTORs, especially 2, have something that people criticized about The Acolyte- showing the Jedi in a bad light. In fact, there's a line in Kotor 2 that's not dissimilar to the infamous comment by that Acolyte actor (Barnett) who said that SW is about which side you're standing on, and not good vs evil. In Kotor 2 there's been a war between the Jedi and Sith, but we're told that it's called the Jedi Civil War because the "regular" people see no difference between the two sides. However, a lot of players liked this take, since it was something different and darker. Problem is The Acolyte makers seemed to really not like the Jedi; plus they kept portraying them as idiots.

The people that are currently in charge of things in Hollywood don't seem to have a good sense for business. It just doesn't make sense to completely alienate a pre-existing fan-base and vilify them and expect them to just turn the other cheek and toss them a sack of cash. People become emotionally invested in these franchises. They're in no way obligated, morally or otherwise, to buy into a dogmatic belief system or to "Just be nice.". That's ridiculous.

The whole entertainment model changed too fast for them. The requirement of having to go to a movie theater to watch a new movie and the locked in time of scheduled tv was a guaranteed broad audience. And many "fans" blossomed out of the mass of audiences. Now, the internet, streaming, KZbin and a plethora of other mechanisms is forcing them to learn to give the smaller group of specific "fans" what we want. And we want good quality storytelling of our favorite shows and stories. They're not used to that. So when they started making things that "they" basically liked but the "fans" that were still around, didn't. They criticised us and called us toxic. What a way to win back fans. Sheesh!

Not sure if you followed Disparu's critiques of each episode. They were each twice as long as each episode. He would bring up some situation that didn't pass the common sense test and once you were aware of it you couldn't ignore it. Stupid actions which made no sense, beget more stupid actions which beget even more of them. One would think if you are going to push a certain narrative like "The Message" you would really go over the top in making something of quality. Instead they make garbage created by hacks. Some of those L.H. reviews where she made it sound like the writing process seemed to be "This Episode" being the focus with only a little effort put in for continuity. "That's cool!!! Put it in!!!" and while cool, it messes up the story further down stream.

I think the another reason why they are desperate to label content creation like this as toxic is their unabated disdain for their audiences. They really believe that if there weren't Gary's or AZ's or Drinkers out there that people would easily fall into line and swallow their slop. Their opinion is so arrogant and haughty that they write of vast swaths of their fellow human beings as mindless sheep.

If you want executives to relate to fans criticisms of these shows then it needs to be related to something they are probably fans of themselves like golf. Would you not be critical if you went to play golf but now there are new rules and spectators get to shoot you with paint balls or piss on your leg while you were trying to play? Would you not be critical of 'golf' now? Would your criticism be considered toxic or maybe justified?
