As much as I love the look, feel, and cinematography of the movie, it would do the show a disservice to be exactly the same. Beyond things like budget and wanting the show to stand on its own, The Batman is a detective noir thriller. The Penguin is a mob show.
@mysticalmaniac22 ай бұрын
It actually doesnt look very different from the movie imo.. I think they did an incredible job of capturing the same feel as the movie. They actually used the same lenses from the movie haha
@KrivitskyM2 ай бұрын
Regarding the cinematography: it could not be the same even if they wanted to, because it's a different media with different goals. It's not the question of "do I prefer a certain style of cinematography", but "would a certain style of cinematography that Greig Fraiser implemented for The Batman work harmoniously with the other components of the show" and the answer is no. The plot unleashes faster, the focus is more on the daylight scenes where the distorted lenses, let's be honest, look weird (it was noticeable during the funeral scene) and just the overall vibe is different, though the environment is the same. We are looking at the world through Oz's eyes after all, for he is in every scene so far.
@shawnwinkler91532 ай бұрын

With the “the film doesn’t really show him to be this low on the totem pole” I mean Penguin is only in 7-8 scenes in the film and in both his first scene and his last he’s constantly undermined. “Do you know my reputation?” “Yeah…do you?” And Carmine just before he dies going with the “Oh so you’re a big man now Oz, to me you were always just a gimp in an empty suit”. I think The Batman does a pretty good job hunting that he isn’t taken seriously in the game while giving room to explore his story in series like this.

The use of "9 to 5" caught me off guard, and the smirk from Vic when Oz quickly ejects the cd made me luagh. But it fits, they made penguin a working class guy who worked and earned his way up. I can't think of the last season premiere of a show that had my eyes glued to the screen from beginning to end, no hyperbole. First off excellent writing by Lauren LeFranc with vivid dialogue and intense scenes. Secondly, the acting is masterclass especially from Colin Farrell who completely disappears once again as Oz but in a much significant role and Cristan Miloti is a pure unapologetic scene stealer. Finally, the atmosphere is so connected to the Matt Reeves Batmanverse that you can watch the 2022 film and this series right after, it just flows perfectly. If I had 3 arms I'd give it 3 Thumbs Way Up, and can't wait for more.

I also like that it was the two characters who have disabilities needing a seat and neither of them took the two seats reserved for disabled persons. I find it funnier that Alberto's corpse in the car trunk with a missing pinky was just an accident by Victor. It works because Maroni has his ring back in Blackgate Prison so the missing pinky and the word "Payback" make the Maroni Crime Family the number one suspects for Alberto's death. I find Victor Aguilar interesting because he could be Matt Reeves' version of Victor Zasz, Penguin's right-hand man before he became a complete psychopath.

Batman is only one man and can't be at every crime going on in a large city . He is just a vigilante that the city is aware of but that will not deter people from going about their lives , especially criminal organizations that are making millions of dollars daily . Batman is more of a nuisance , a disruptor , to criminal organizations but in the grand skeme of it all he is out numbered . Batman haves to strategically choose when to get involve inorder to be the most effective in disrupting criminal organizations operations . He is not going to be kicking in the doors of every low level drug operations because that will not be stopping the organizations because of the number of crime operations they haves going on . Batman seeks to go precisely at the key bosses to toppel the organizations from the top . Yeah...Batman might occasionally do some low level street crime fighting but that is to just make the criminal element uneasy in commiting crime , but it's not going to stop crime . Batman is intelligent to know that there are other social factors that causes crime and punching a few criminals isn't going to ultimately stop it , no more than the Death Penalty does .

I would rather them attempt to create their own version of batman than try to recreate a version of the dark knight. If there is nearly a century of material in regards to batman alone, I would figure they can muster something different and interesting - this being the challenge because of how long the character has been the cultural zeitgeist. Also, I like that this isn't part of a shared universe. It's just its own thing. In a world that is MCU, DCU, DCEU, it is refreshing to have standalone entertainment and entertainment that doesn't require characters with their own set of mythos being included. It can quickly become convoluted, and WB already struggled with this concept.
