Also I would have rather had my Victory Saber and Deathsarus as retail figures. Also Id recommend getting in to the slop chop method of painting. At this point, I’m a fan of Slugger. Put out whatever makes you happy and I’m here for it. I’ve always wanted to try this game. I’ve got Arena of the Planeswalkers with an expansion and I think it is pretty good! Not enough substance, but the gameplay is fun. I think I would really enjoy getting into Heroscape. Maybe once my group is done with Imperial Assault, we may try this.
@slugscaper2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! ❤️ Heroscape plays very similarly to Arena of the Planeswalkers, (as the latter was based on the former), but I think Heroscape pulls the game elements together in a more engaging way. The map building and army drafting elements in Heroscape give it so much replayability, always looking for new synergies and strategies! 😊 Cost is certainly the biggest barrier to entry though, no doubt there.

"Not for the faint of cash" is what kept me out of Heroscape as a kid... now, even more so, plus not having anyone to play it _with_ (all my friends are online a continent away). I did always think the terrain building aspect was neat! For tabletop RPGs that use (or can be adapted to) a hex system rather than exclusively square grid, I can see this being a fantastic way for dungeon masters to build out overworld terrain maps (and the modularity means you can even experiment with _terrain altering_ abilities!)...

You may have heard of it, but there’s a boardgame RPG, Gloomhaven, that has some similar build your map mechanics But the RPG aspect uses decks of cards that slowly deplete as you run your adventure. Along with the expanding “legacy” aspect of the game (where your characters, world, and game evolve over time as you play) It definitely scratched my HeroScape itch in more recent years and it is incredibly strategic and fun (if a bit unwieldy to set up) Great if you have two or three gamer friends who can get together regularly.

Totally! The simplicity of Heroscape is one of its greatest strengths, in my opinion. The use of small numbers that matter leads to simple math and meaningful abilities. I didn’t know anything about heroscape before watching this video, so here are my first impressions. The hexagonal terrain looks like a great way to add variety to rounds. It’s so customisable. A brilliant concept if ever there were one. Seems pretty simple to play, which is good. It looks like a version of warhammer I’d actually be willing to try (and less money hungry at that). Will I play it? No, probably not. Mainly because I don’t have the funds or the people to do so. But the figures look really cool, and them being pre-painted is great. The mashup of sci-fi, fantasy, and history would allow anyone to create their dream army. All in all, looks pretty good.

6:16 there are some slight exception to this rule. The Fen Hydra starts with 4 lives, corresponding to its 4 heads, and it starts the game with 4 attacks. Every wound it takes, one of its heads is effectively chopped off, and so it loses one of its attacks for every wound. On the other hand, both Hulk and Krug gain an extra attack die with every wound they take(Hulk only gains up to 5 extra dice this way). So figures like the Hyrda get weaker as they take damage, and figures like Krug or Hulk get stronger as they take damage.
@slugscaper28 күн бұрын
Great point! I was actually rewatching this video earlier today and the Hydra popped into my head as an exception to the rule, haha. I didn't know the Hulk operated like Krug, though! I've never played with the Marvel characters.
