Context that makes the first one worse : The groom had asked the bride if he could wear them multiple times before, and she had refused. Before the actual ceremony he asked again, and she refused, again (as she should). Even though she explicitly said no, he ran down to the car and got them before the reception started. I don’t know what happened to the couple after that, but I think it’s awful that he did this despite her explicitly saying no multiple times.

25:57 I saw a very interesting take on tiktok a couple weeks ago related to this that I wanted to share. It was from a creator named Yuval who had said he believes the man should paid for the first date. The reason he said this however wasn't because it's a man's job to provide or anything like that, but rather because in a straight relationship where 2 strangers meet for a date, the woman is taking a larger risk than a man. He, as a man himself, said that he never felt the need to give his friends his location when going on a date, but that women often times will do that to feel safe in case the man they meet is a dangerous person. Very interesting perspective on the matter that I don't think a lot of people consider, so I wanted to share it :)

As someone who is a leftist who also happens to be very interested in self sufficiency and homesteading, I will explain the sourdough thing to the best of my ability! So basically sourdough isn’t just a “flavor” of bread, it’s actually a technique that is extremely traditional where you use wild yeast you cultivate yourself to leaven bread and in the process it ferments it, causing that sour flavor. Its traditional nature and possible health benefits (fermented food) are why “crunchy” and tradwives find it appealing. It’s also seen as a badge of honor sometimes to not use any processed or commercialized food, like store bought yeast. ALSO, raw milk and growing your own food is a big thing in these circles. I don’t agree that raw milk is really a good idea in most cases but do think everyone should grow more of their own food! But yeah, it’s essentially seen as “subversive” because they’re going against societal norms in the way they procure/consume food, not purely for the food itself. Hope this helped, it’s a current hyperfixation of my ND brain 😅❤

But yeah I love us teasing each other and being playfully annoying but that was too far and I don't think he'll ever say that again. Even if you have a relationship where you're teasing each other be careful what you say because you shouldn't want to actually hurt them and if you do acknowledge it, apologize and do better.

That whole story about the husband who cried in front of his wife, who was disgusted, makes me so sad. Literally, the exact *opposite* thing happened with my partner and I. When my partner and I were still friends (really good friends, but still just friends), he had a really hard day and was telling me about it. He cried a little, and I hugged him and comforted him. I remember just feeling so hurt for him in the moment and thinking, "He is so sweet, he doesn't deserve this." Like wtf man, youre just a guy too. Somehow if she did what you wanted to any other guy then it lowers her value in your eyes. Its entirely an ego thing at the end of the day. I can confidently and comfortably say that at the end of the day that Im just a man, nothing more, nothing less and thats cool. There were many men before me and there will be many more after. What women have done or will do with men is entirely up to them, and it makes no sense to take it personally.

Storytime about crying from this past weekend: I was hanging out with a group of friends, one of them was hosting and I got a notification from the grading system our college uses that triggered a panic attack. My friend who was hosting came and found me and helped me calm down, and you know what he did instead of getting upset at me for disrupting things or crying? He helped me calm down and sat with me for a while, and made sure I was alright to be left alone in a quiet space before going back to everyone else, and made sure I knew I could get him if I needed to. Thats how you handle people being upset. You should be there for them, not act like they shouldn't have emotions

With the Apple headset one, they are AR (augmented reality) not VR (virtual reality) So you see the world around you rather than VR putting you into a completely virtual world that isn’t real (I’m a tad surprised that you didn’t confirm that with a Google search before commenting on it (not that I feel your disgust with it would have been wiped away, and it shouldn’t be lol)). I feel that hardly makes it better, ya know? I still think it’s pretty disrespectful to wear an AR headset on your wedding. Like what?

I also wish she'd Googled it to confirm. (I feel like a lot of reaction KZbinrs opt to not Google things as though that'll make their reaction more sincere, but it just... makes them make mistakes sometimes.) Personally, I feel as though we don't have enough information to judge this man as being "disgusting". Is there other info, like his wife having asked him not to, or him being against his wedding, etc.? If we don't know his reasoning for wearing them, it's kind of just dunking on someone for being plain "cringe". Not really about his heterosexuality. Like - would I get along with a guy who's this into tech like this enough that I would marry him? Not personally, no, but that's my prerogative. That's not even mentioning that some blind people have said this improves their vision, so I'd truly avoid judging someone for really liking their AR headset.

At the same time, it seems to me like a more complex situation than just "hetero cringe". Did he do it just to spite her (at their own wedding, which is indeed more fitting of the theme...)? In the first one, I believe it’s an augmented reality headset, not virtual. So, it works in a similar way to Pokemon GO, in that it adds fake things to your view of the real world. So he wasn’t specially escaping to a different place like in VR, and he was sort of at his wedding physically, but while talking to people he could also have been scrolling Facebook or TikTik etc, at the same time. It brings the power of your smartphone into your view of the real world. Still a gross way to disconnect on your special day though, obviously 😅

One important part of the rebellion starter pack was the glass of milk. I'm not sure about the sourdough thing, but dairy milk has been an open white supremacist dog whistle for a while now (increasingly so with things like non-pasteurized milk). It's based on pseudoscience around lactose digestion in adults as a racial metric. The sourdough thing sounds like a similar track.

Two reasons on the sourdough thing, at least in the US: one, it's considered an "older" bread, hence conservatives; and two is, while anyone CAN make their own starter, how a lot of bakers get their starter is asking church volunteers, or older women in general. Pair conservative beliefs with religion, especially in the South, means we're talking Tradwife 101 indoctrination.

I think the sourdough being a tradwife/conservative thing is because sourdough starters need fairly constant care. They're like a little pet that you have to feed every day because there's active yeast in it. If you're not at home every day, you can put it in the fridge to slow it down, but it still needs to eat and you have to discard some fairly regularly. In my mind, they're implying that only good housewives can make sourdough successfully because of all that.

But rather than put him down for it, we TALKED about it. How bought and sold by traditional gender roles do you have to be to put gender performance above a committed long-term relationship? "Paying for dinner" chapter I thought I heard the normal arrangement (not limited to romantic dates) is that the person who invites also treats-you can also arrange beforehand to split the bill, but springing surprise costs on people is rude. For gendered socialization reasons, men are usually the people taking the initiative to ask others on dates. Also for patriarchy reasons, it's traditional for the man to pay for the date. (couldn't say how intertwined the history of "women aren't allowed to have jobs or their own bank account" is with the tradition of "it's the man's job to be breadwinner/pay for the date" but I struggle to imagine that they aren't connected at all) To my knowledge, in the era where a man _had to_ pay for the date (because women had no finances to speak of), it was _not_ traditional for a woman to put out after the date. And as Savannah pointed out, you are never entitled nor obligated to have sex.
