Dude, your videos are soooooooo good. I've got all the badness but have been _really_ working on it for about a year now. Tension, high layrnx, no breath support, can't place my voice. Somehow your videos are just very clear but also very inspiring that I can reach the point you are talking about. Anyone else saying "get out of the way of your voice" would have just sounded like rubbish but last night I really tried it because I believed you and I felt a difference and just like I understood what you meant... it seemed doable! I really hope you keep this up and I really wish you success! Looking forward to your videos! Would be very interested in which teachers impacted you the most as it sounds like you have tried a lot. Also, how much of it is just time and muscle memory. I feel like with other instruments they simple require real-world clock time (as in years) to get better as well as regular, focused practice, I think the voice might be the same but would love to hear your thoughts on that.

Hey there, I'm sorry I missed your comment. I actually didn't even look at my page after this first vid and then started getting comments on the next few videos and haven't been able to keep up, which is a nice problem to have I guess! So, interesting points you make. Yes and no... perhaps. Yes, time served will eventually bring results, but not if the technique is terrible and you spend that time building muscle memory that is unhealthy.Because you then have to spend just as long undoing it all! which is effectively what I had to do after a decade and half of gigging. So, there are parts of the voice or parts of the mechanism which are attached to the voice which are purely instinctive bodily functions. Things that happen with no thought and help us survive. such as by not swallowing and choking on something etc. So, this brings issues because these things can start to get involved and a habit starts to form and bad technique can creep back in. It's a moving target. I will never stop saying this phrase. It's always changing and is affected by all sorts of things from diet, to quality of sleep, to mood and hormones and to recent voice use in singing and speech, such as being in loud environments. I'm glad the idea of getting out of the way actually went in. Yeah, its a case of getting better at noticing what is getting in the way and what that might feel like.or when things start to get intense. In my experience, the way things felt was so bad but I had no idea. I just thought it was how it was. How I sing now was so unattainable but I'm glad I persevered./ I'm putting a new video up tonight and hopefully it will have some useful bits in there for you also. I currently offer a free 15 minute video call consultation, take advantage of that of you wish and I can help you see what you are doing and help you move forward. Cheers and good luck

Man, I really like your thoughts and I'm considering reaching you as a mentor, but I really lack an example of your live vocal performance. Is there a chance to see it somewhere?

Hey Calder, always good to see more people trying to add to the knowledge for Singers, good luck with the Channel, I'm based in Surrey, England. There is a lot more to singing than people realise, plus, its actually really hard to find good singers if you are in a band, I've been fronting my Band for a Year now, because really hard to find someone to do our set, who could actually sing and was reliable! My biggest weakness, remembering lyrics, I use a tablet on stage, just in case, the singing part, getting better, but know my limits, certainly singing exercises has improved me a HUGE amount, so interested in seeing what you are saying, could I ask you to look at an App I have been developing for Singers on stage? its free, so not a sales plug!

Hey man! I’m just a KZbin fan, and music producer. I saw this come up in my feed. Glad you’re starting on this KZbin journey! A little encouragement: There’s definitely a place for you here. And if you keep it up, and keep learning KZbin, you’ll do well. (It’s like learning a new instrument) you’ll suck at the beginning and no one will want to hear you, but once you get good, they’ll keep coming back.

Thanks you so mcuh ! I am looking forward to the journey. I've done a couple of bits before but this will be my first attempt at consistency of approach.. Hope to catch you on the first few vids soon.

@@singingmatterscalder Just checking back on your channel. You've been getting some decent views! Keep it up. Something you could work on with your next couple videos THUMBNAILS. Get photoshop and learn it. it'll change your KZbin life if you can get that right. Keep going!

Glad I came across your channel. So nice just hearing you telling your story. I trained with an Opera teacher who performed on broadway. NYC. This was on Long Island. I sang and belted it out. Long story short I stopped to raise my family and now grandchildren. Now I’m playing music again but my voice!!!!!! . Omg… I suck 😩😩😩😩. . I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis now and my voice has changed. It is very depressing. I’m practicing and doing so many scales and working on technique. I’m going to watch all your videos. I need all the help I can get. Thank you.

Sorry I missed this comment, I hadn’t gone back to this original video and have been trying to keep up with all the comments. So I hope some of the videos help. I may have to look up your condition to make sense of it. Feel free to reach out with what you are trying to improve.

@@singingmatterscalder. That’s okay. Once your channel grows. It’s gets.harder to keep up. What part of the UK you live in. ? I love it there. Do you give lessons on zoom.? Eventually I need lessons but only with someone who knows what they’re doing. I got a way to go but building my muscles up. Just doing straw exercises and humming. You are down to earth and I’m enjoying your videos. Thank you 🎵🖤🎹🎸🙏

Been baffled forever how my singing can, at the most unexpected moments, become fun, effortless (as you say), and just right for the feel of whatever I'm singing. Those moments -- which never happen when I'm self-consciously tracking vocal or singing for someone else -- seem random, psychological and beyond my control. Frustrating, but also inspiring that the potential is there! Anyway, was happy you broached that subject and looking forward to hearing more from you.

This is interesting. I will give you one of my favourite quotes: The voice is a moving target. >>>>> It's never the same twice. Lots of things affect the voice and how we use it on a daily basis, from sleep quality, to diet, to mood, even hormones, and how exactly we have been speaking, singing, raising voice in any scenarios, You can't rely on it being the same. So.... what we are aiming for is for it to be as reliable as possible and to be able to manipulate it as consistently as we can. I hope my videos help if you catch them soon!
@singingmatterscalder4 ай бұрын
Also, there will be something that you just got set up right, when it worked and felt easy like that. But it's our job as singers to work out what that is so we can best repeat it. Its so worth studying. People just tend to throw themselves at singing, but we can't see it and it involveds parts of the body that is so instinctive, and its about getting certain things out the way. I hope I can help
