I've daily carried a glock 32 in .357 sig for 19 years and love the flat shooting, long distance, hard hitting round! A 4 inch drop from a 4 inch barrel at 100 yards is something! Absolutely great windshield penetration and terminal ballistics! It is a hand full, more straight back than muzzle rise as recoil goes, but very controllable and spot on when the chips are down!

I worked for Federal and another major ammo producer and in our test had the most consistent velocity penetration and expansion across the board. It’s almost perfect. Not to mention reliably was off the chart. Velocity really lended itself to incredibly reliable expansion and hard barrier penetration. It had a very noticeable edge in incapacitated personnel and an experienced shooter really shines at the point of impact of such a flat shooting loading. It’s truly the king and ultimate iteration of the 9mm loading.

It is a good caliber. But I will say that I put a barrel chambered in .357 SiG in my Glock 23 and that damn thing was a bucking bronco. I was really surprised at the recoil. It's a hot round.
@StreetRocketJoe4 жыл бұрын
Ragemutt yes it’s hot but with training and practice it’s as easy to shoot as 9mm. But if you watch testing on 357 sig it expands and performs way better then 9 or 45. It has little to no over penetration because the hollow point open up so reliably, where as some 9 and 45 have trouble opening up all the way and can over penetrate significantly because that.
@jdecar14 жыл бұрын
Ok, but then why not 40sw? 9mm has the advantage of extra mag capacity. If you're going to give that up, then for what? Barrier penetration? Feeding reliability? I think those differences are marginal relative to the cost of ammo compared to 40sw.

@@jdecar1 357 SIG is faster and packs more power than the 40. The case on the SIG is a tad longer, and the cartridge runs at higher pressure. I don't like the 40 because I prefer the OG 40, the 10mm. Firing real 10mm loads, not the weak watered down 40+P stuff.

.45 ACP and .357 SIG are my favorite carry rounds. I carry .357 SIG because of its extra velocity and it’s necked. Given that it’s necked, you get more reliable feeding into your firearm. 13 +1 in my SIG P320 Compact is nice. It really isn’t too big of a burden to shoot. You can’t put a price on your life, so sometimes the “price” argument has no validity to me. As for .45 ACP, if I’m losing that feeding and velocity advantage, I want a bigger bore.
@eproberts953 жыл бұрын
I bought this gun a little over two years ago. I loved it ever since the first time I shot it. I completely understand your argument about not wanting the loud sound or more noticeable muzzle blast but I personally don’t think that those cons outweigh the pros of this cartridge. I like the extra velocity and I believe that it makes it a more effective round. I also don’t believe that those negatives will really be anything that stands out if I ever need to use this in a real self-defense situation. But at the end of the day, any firearm is better than no firearm. Thanks for the videos and keep doing what you do! Great review!

2024-I dropped a 357Sig barrel into my G23 Gen5 and have had No problems with feed issues at all. With the newer Glock 40s (and no Glock 357Sig Models Gen5) their wider frames and chambers only a barrel change is needed. I believe Glock anticipated that. I run as CC a G23/4 and love it w/180gr loads. The Gen5 23/32 Gen5 is entirely a smooth shooter, LOVE IT.

He had to look it up to see what it was lol. He asked me “ sir what are your afraid of “. I told I’m I’m afraid of stupid people doing stupid things that jeopardize my life or or my family’s safety.. he gave me my ID and my CCW permit back and said have a nice day. A few weeks later I saw him again and he said he got to shoot a .357 Glock and it was too much for him 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. He said I had “ mad props “. I told him not not afraid of any caliber that I need to defend myself, I’m more afraid of the other person I’m defending myself against. 9mm, .357 sig , .40 are all extremely effective rounds.

Great Range 2 video Hickok45! I, personally, love the 357Sig & 10mm. I think they are both great cartridges and definitely, in my opinion, the cartridges for 'Pistol Calibre Carbines'. In a full sized pistol, 'duty' size or 'carry/compact' size they are great as well. But in a PCC both of these cartridges especially shine, more so than other pistol cartridges in a PCC. When the 10mm came out it was really popular but then its popularity waned considerably and after several years people began to see the light, if you will, and 10mm returned with a vengeance. I can see 357Sig following that same path but I believe that it will not take but a couple years for the 357Sig to come back strong, especially if some company offers it on a weapon platform that really takes advantage of and highlights the 357SIG's best attributes.

As I understand it, .357 Sig was developed for the purpose of replicating a 125gr .357 magnum in an automatic, and looking at the numbers, they pretty well accomplished that. It outperforms 124gr 9mm +p by roughly 200 fps and 100 ft/lb at the muzzle. The problem is that this is a relatively modest difference in performance when compared to the much higher cost over 9mm. Pair that with the fact that 357 Sig now has to contend with the resurgence of 10mm auto, the future for the round looks rather bleak. It's a cool round, but it's trying to fill a gap in the market that just isn't there.

Almost hear it hit the steel first before the bang up close. Hit the nail right on the head about that round and muzzle flashes at in low light. All my handgun buying decisions came from this channel and they were all spot on learned how to do the Glock 26 hundred yard shot by watching Hickok. Many many many many years ago.

I carry the .357sig in the Smith & Wesson and I'm really glad you made this video! Thank you very much!!! The more people are aware of this caliber, the easier it will be for me to get my ammo. This has been a very very reliable round for me and I highly recommend it to anyone who may be up to carrying a great caliber like the .357sig! It's a really fun round to shoot at different things! It has really deep penetration and destruction of everything I shoot it at! My brother always liked his 10mm and I always liked the .357sig we enjoy comparing them and which will destroy more! Lots of fun!

Best self defense cartridge available to the general public. Been carrying it for around ten years. I like Speer 125 gr. Gold Dots. Use Sig 226 in .357 Sig. I shoot about 200 rounds per month. Big boy gun.

Hey Hickok! Thanks for the .357 review. My P226 is a .357. I know, there's always the "what's the point" argument, and I guess it's well founded. But I hope they don't stop making ammo for it!!
@highplainsdrifter96314 жыл бұрын
They'll always make ammo for it. Too many people own one, and numerous law enforcement agencies including the Sky Marshals still use it.

Ppl talk so negatively about 357 Sig. I've seen it outperform 9mm +p+ in several tests. It's expensive compared to regular 9mm, but not so much with +p+. The reason the government agencies are moving away is about cost. Any Glock 40 cal can easily convert to 9mm or 357 Sig. The 40 cal magazine works perfectly with 357 Sig. My Glock 23 is also a Glock 19 or Glock 32 whenever I choose.

Agreed about ppl having the innate desire to reinvent the wheel. "Some ppl are just satisfied with the round wheel.." Hickok45. Agree it's about contentment. Love the experience of the share, but doubt I'll ever own or shoot 1 357 sig cartridge. No desire here. Be well, safe and support the Liberties of the Republic

Montana Highway Patrol still issues the SIG P229 in 357 SIG, as well as other state/Highway patrol agencies. Federal Air Marshals issue the 357 SIG as well. It is a fantastic cartridge, one that deserves more attention and appreciation. Everyone just rolls with the 9mm today because they are so cheap to shoot, but the 357 SIG is the superior cartridge.

In 2024, it's still a great cartridge. It's not dead (as proven by Mr. Jack Wilson). It's just too damn expensive for most people. It would have a renaissance if the supply were greater and prices were lower

I just ordered a blue label Gen 4 Glock 32 with Glock factory night sights. It just arrived at the firearms shop on Friday, the 12th. I’ll go and pick it up tomorrow, on Monday, after I wake up. Ironically, I also just bought a blue label, Gen 4 Glock 23 with factory night sights on the 30th of May. My first Glock that I ever bought was a blue label Gen 3 Glock 22 with Glock factory night sights. I bought it in early 2009. The department that I work for uses Glock 22 handguns and I fell in love with those firearms. I now own a bunch and would own ever more if Glock would allow blue label eligible customers to buy more than 2 a year. I will probably always trust Glocks with their reliability more than any other firearms. But I do own many other firearms as well from other manufacturers and do like a lot of their features better but seeing what are Glocks go through in training and still, always function that has made me trust them the most.

I have a Glock 32. I like it a lot, because I got it for free as a gift. I don't necessarily think it's worth the extra price for ammo, and sacrificing space in the magazine. I like the higher velocity, but I don't think it is taken advantage of well with the short barrel.

@@timbell7602 I use the LW barrel and just change the mags. I have a G19 and 23 also and can interchange the barrels (9mm requires a conversion barrel) and mags in the 32 to shoot 9, 40 or .357. It's the most versatile Glock and often on sale as LEO trade ins.

357 SIG is a boss round for sure. 16 rounds of equivalent 357 magnum makes for plenty of one-shot problem solvers. Should only be used in frames that can handle the energy...subcompacts are waaay overstressed with 600+lbs at the muzzle. P226 + Underwood 125gr jhp's @ 1550fps=666lbs. Coincidence? Nah...sends demons to the pit.

As far as decreased use by law enforcement, three things: availability, cost, and decreasing firearms skills of new hires. There are other factors, but these are three big ones.
@Mr257weatherby3 жыл бұрын
I will always have a 357 Sig. Cost is the main reason for it not being popular. If you look at ballistics vs. the other competitive rounds you will want one. Bullet technology has made other rounds just as competitive within reason. Looking into a model 31 next.

really didn't know anything about 357sig until i actually got the chance to have a nice convo with a game warden when i was up in the mountains fishing one weekend in NM... he had it purely for penetration and shared a few anecdotes pertaining to mountain lions/cougars... Had me pretty interested, and honestly left me feeling under powered with my 40s&w after he was gone.

Just bought a G32 today. Wanted a 23 to go with my 27 and my hoard of 40 S&W since 9mm is very dear during these days of unrest. Of course the shop had next to no inventory but had one of these for $150 less than any other Gen 4! Another store has a decent but pricy supply of 357Sig ammo and I have a G23 barrel ordered and on its way. A good day!
