I cannot wait for every Thursday as I watch only on KZbin as I live in the east coast of the USA but this is literally my favorite thing to watch and I can not wait for this time of the week to watch this stream. Slight note: RAW, blindness severely hampers Beholders as they need to be able to see their targets to shoot their eye beams.

@@poisonedoak6563 yeah, anti magic cone isn't affected. But all eye rays are affected by blindness, so It was a brilliant idea to blind it. unfortunately, custom monsters (in this case Hadar-Touched) will have unknown resistances and stat changes at the DM's discretion.

Just thinking, I wonder how different the story would have went if Valor never changed the coordinates to the gate and banished the demon lord. They would still be touring the demon daughter around, starbane would not know Valor was there and might still be with them, they most likely wouldn't have even teleported off word, starbane would still be trapped outside of Aerois, crazy how those few button presses changed so much.

It's much more likely that we'd be watching the adventures of a completely different group of heroes trying to fight back against a full-scale demonic incursion. If those co-ordinates didn't get changed, they would 100% all be dead.

"Eye Rays. The death tyrant shoots three of the following magical eye rays at random (reroll duplicates), choosing one to three targets IT CAN SEE within 120 feet of it." The Tyrant should have been effectively neutralized with blindness after Nova hit it with Wall of Light. Unless parts of it are homebrew of course. I don't mean this as criticism. Many players and DMs do not realize how effective blindness and vision restricting effects can be - counterspell, opportunity attacks and many other things all require vision of the target.

Just going by what how he acted after finding out how bad blinded is for a beholder I think he decided that in order for it to be a challenging and rewarding fight it needed to still be able to attack. This is a bit contrary to what he said eariler in the episode where he said the party might just steamroll the boss and does contribute to his reputation as a mean DM, but I understand he wanted a fun and exciting time for everyone.

@@mme.veronica735 I did not pay attention the entire fight, but the boss also did not have legendary resistances right (which the Beholder normally does not have)? I slap at least one of those on every monster (and even NPC) that is alone against my players. Especially at this high of a level, it is a must or one bad save can just trivialize the whole encounter. I still remember how my players went against a Werewolf at 3rd level. He was supposed to be a dangerous boss. One Wrathful smite ended the fight for him - he never landed a hit after that and they spent rest of the fight chasing him down.

@@MarvelOfRain Well it doesn't have legendary resistances or immunity to the blinded condition and while it would have been blinded one turn, due to it's +7 con save it would have probably only been blinded one turn.

@@mme.veronica735 +7 against DC 17 = 50% chance to fail. That is 12,5 % chance to be blinded for most of the encounter (3 rounds) even if it wasn't reusable. What I am saying is that monster design at higher levels does not handle power of PCs well. You need to change it if you want to challenge them. I mean a level 8 paladin just dealt about 100 damage in one attack in my game - that is more than half the suggested Death Tyrant max HP.

High Rollers, last night I watched the 1986 transformers movie with a few friends, and something we noticed was that the matrix of leadership that optimus prime held, had a lot of similarities to the Mateix that sentry holds. There was the name change, the upgraded appearance, the fact it holds the minds of all the previous primes, it is held in their chests, the ‘till all are one’ line. I mean the blind on the eyestalks was a 100 iq play as it should have nulified their ability to even see a target to attack/roll a saving throw. It just doesn't affect the main eye right? The whole thing is, this creature isn't just a Beholder, its a Death Tyrant. An undead Beholder. It has no normal sight to begin with, its eyes all rotted away. It uses blindsight to spot targets, and it's got a range of 120 feet. If this had been a regular, basic, run-of-the-mill Beholder, blinding it would've been a total pro-gamer move. But technically speaking, a Death Tyrant already is blind.

Death Tyrants don't have blindsight, and they aren't immune to the blinded condition, meaning those eye rays (unless homebrewed) would not be able to make attacks.

... yeah pretty much. Petrification is supposed to be scary and a big threat, that's why it gives you two saves, just to make sure it didn't feel like your character died to a single bad role

Legendary actions refresh at the start of your turn, kind of like reactions, except they're taken at the end of a player's turn. The name is actually kinda disingenuous, they're more like "legendary points" you get each turn to spend on actual legendary actions, but yeah, the tyrant spent 3 legendary actions per round, with the 3rd being the "last" each time until they refreshed.
