He does it because he can, and out of the kindness of his heart. If people were given hand outs like this with say, a lot more janitors would be "giving advice". Not to downplay him at all, bless his soul, but there's a fine line between premeditated effort for compensation, and kindess, with no reward

I totally agree. When I see school administration get aggressive on silly dress codes at proms. Or so many illogical responses to student behavior (bullies vs the people being bullied, etc). I wonder who are the true teachers here. The man with common sense and caring, or the people that put the letter of the law above the spirit of the law. Politics have long ago entered the school system. It is a sad state of affairs.

Yep, I just work maintenance at my job...well they call it maintenance but its just I guess a cooler term for janitor LOL. You can have all the degrees in the world but they do not mean you can solve everyday problems, or have any common sense, or the ability to help others through their struggles and their dark times....I have helped a lot of kids over the years just by taking the time to listen to them and give them my experience, and what I'd do if I were in their shoes. Something most counselors today have no idea how to do...listen, they think because they are a counselor they know everything and in fact they really have no idea, they just read books and paid for a piece of paper at a college, that is no substitute for real life experience.

He would even see me on my bike carrying all my groceries home around town and pick me up and drive me home. We would just talk about my future and his health as an older man. He is in right position! Fact: a custodian knows more about the happenings in a school than the administration knows! We see all, we hear all we know all! If we don't we will! When one is in that role the whole school is yours. You have the opportunities to interact with the students on a different level than in classroom setting. You have the opportunity to build a bond and trust with these students and that my friends is a beautiful opportunity to show each they are worthy and to lead back on track with words of wisdom and insight when needed. It is opportunity to make a difference in ones life. To give a nudge at times with compassion letting you know life at any age is difficult but take that bull and stay on for the 8 seconds because you got this but should the bull buck you I'll be right there to be your rodeo clown!

My high school custodian was the same way as this man. He took the time out of his day to know LITERALLY every single student’s name who walked through my school doors. He genuinely cared about all of the students and was so genuine to everyone he spoke with. I’m glad to see there are others out there too that had staff that went above and beyond for their students.

My old janitor at my school passed away last year from stomach cancer and I remember he always had his headphones in and would always sing and in the mornings he would ask us how we were doing that morning and he would talk to us and give us advice. His announcement of his death was told by our orchestra teacher because people had noticed that he wasn’t coming to school like he usually did, and it was never the same going to school. Rest in peace Mr. Anthony you are missed 🕊

I'm a contractor and the first people I befriend on every assignment are the custodial staff and the security personnel. I bring them homemade treats, holiday gifts, and I always acknowlege them as a team on Mother's and Father's Day. And this man confirms that I am doing the right thing. God bless him!

Im a school custodian, and I absolutely love it! I love working with the kids and making sure they're in a clean atmosphere. I too am one who will talk to a student when I see they're in need. There's so much more than just the job specifics. We actually tend to be the first to see most of what's going on before other staff. 💜

My middle school custodian used to tell people their grades when they didn't have access to them for whatever reason and for some of the students that didnt have lunches he would buy it for them. He was an air force veteran and the school recognized him multiple times for it. He was so nice to everyone and he always got the behavior back. Thanks Mike
