When I think about this, I feel like most of the songs in High School Musical have counterparts in Grease, and I took a moment to draft up a quick song-to-song comparison. Start of Something New / Summer Nights: Male lead meets female lead on vacation and his world starts to change. Get'cha Head in the Game / Greased Lightnin': Male lead and his friends are excited about the main hobby that defines their lives. Stick to the Status Quo / Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee: Classmates, featuring resident mean girl, shut down anyone who doesn't conform to their standards, particularly female lead. When There Was Me and You / Hopelessly Devoted To You: Female lead muses about how she still cares about male lead, even if he doesn't care about her. Breaking Free / You're the One That I Want: Male and female leads decide to forget everything else and be together, whatever it takes. We're All In This Together / We Go Together: The plot is resolved and the whole school sings about friendship.

my dad worked at comcast when hsm went into production, and i can confirm, it is a contemporary remake of Grease. production was announced to the employees in a zoom call by the actress who played Topanga in Boy Meets World as a modern Grease.

Zoom wasn't around then. The closest thing was Skype, which only introduced audio conference calling for small businesses in February 2004, and video calling in January 2006, the month that HSM1 was first released.

When high scool musical first came out my mom and I watched it together. After finishing my mom said it was just a "bad version of grease". We then rented Grease and I thoroughly enjoyed both. I disagree thats its worse its just a different era and impacted the world in somewhat different ways. My mom also says that history doesn't repeat itself it rhymes, so in this way i agree. they rhyme

I personal,y find it better, I think HSM has a better overarching story with Troy and Gabriella breaking free. While Grease was just a bunch of random things happening (but still managed to be most realistic)

This was such a good video as always. I never thought about the similarites between this two. I think Grease is like a classic movie, timeless, that not matter the year people will see it and with High School Musical is not timeless but have a lot of success because they realese it for a generation, that generation grow up with them. Movies or tv shows that are realease and impact a specific generation like High School Musical or Glee make a huge impact in a lot of things, the audience can relate to the characters, the creators have different ways to create more money (cd, merch, tours, more movies/seasons). Thank you for the video. Your channel is one of my favorites.

Learnt that high school musical was originally meant to be grease 3. That doesn't surprise me at all, as the plot is that of two soul mates who meet during vacation only to meet up again at the same high school after coming back

Honestly as a kid I thought it was too similar to grease cause I did watch Grease a couple times. At least it was better than Grease 2 (Though Cool Rider is a guilty pleasure)

Grease all day. Does not matter how many films HSM has, it can't reach Grease status. In 50 years Grease will be still in the same position. The real magic of Grease is actually one of the most criticized/questioned things of the film, the age of the cast. They keep saying they look old for what they are performing but that's what makes Grease eternal. The fact that they don't look that young nor too old creates an atmosphere where older people can still feel identified with the cast. It's like if time stopped at the right time to make the cast immortal. That's why our old parents feel those youth vibes everytime they watch Grease. This thing does not happen with HSM which is at the end more childish. Also the cliches on Grease are cooler and never get old, and so are the clothes and the style. About the music, HSM has some good songs specially on the first films, but Grease songs are in my opinion more memorable and catchy. Contrary to HSM songs, Grease songs will be played forever at parties and weddings and that also contributes to keep the legend alive.
