I've said it before and i'll say it again. Smash Bros Melee is a game held together with duct tape and dreams. It's quite possibly the least polished 1st party nintendo game ever released and I still love it all the same.

@@davidbass3178 most of what makes melee great is intentional (airdoging into the ground putting you in a special landing state that keeps your momentum but prevents your from acting for ten frame was intentional, so were shield dropping, l canceling, jump canceling etc) They obviously could not predict every usage we would make of theses mechanics, but the fact that they even thought of subtle things like forbidden sdi's, and made an engine that holds off so weel despite all the abuse we threw at it, in such a short time is amazing. Melee is far less "broken" than people think

not at all, if you plat melee casually you probably wouldn't notice most if not any bugs, but because the game is played to such a level and it's been out for so many years people have noticed all this things, i think that what you are saying it's like saying that because you can beat ocarina of time in less than 10 minutes the game is broken and it barely holds up and that is not true at all

I think the reason Falcons voice clip plays during the character select menu is because when the developers changed the menu they set everyone’s voice clips to 0 and if the normal number is something like 100 or 1000 they by mistake changed Falcons voice to 1 or any other low number.

I think things like the shine mine are what really have kept this game around as long as it has been. As nice as it can be to have balance patches to correct unintended gameplay mechanics, bugs, and character balancing issues, that Melee has existed in the same state for nearly two decades has allowed countless players to explore the mechanics of the game, knowing that any tricks or techs they find won't be removed. I think as helpful as patching games can be, in some cases they really disrupt the natural evolution of the games meta.

I always knew something was different about which color of Falcon you would pick. I kept trying to tell people that it just felt different and wasn't the same and no one would believe me. Oh hey, my friend was actually the person to notice the nipple spike and post about it on SWF (as Juce). Since he wasn't very well-known, people initially wrote it off as him or the other Falcon being bad and not knowing how to upB. I asked him about how he found it and you're right that it was due to the angle. He was working on Falcon's HRC and one of the steps was to "down air as low as possible", but he noticed that the bag would have the wrong angle when hit from the top of Falcon's hitbox. This gave him the idea to try it in matches/training mode and show that it was a true spike.
