Braille Skateboarding

Күн бұрын

The Purpose of Braille Skateboarding is to grow the number of people who skateboard by teaching, motivating, and inspiring. We do this by making skateboard tutorial videos covering every how to skateboard video under the sun moon and stars. By learning ourselves and showing that no matter how old or young, you can learn to skate. Part of this is also providing a suggested path to take in learning to skate. Then we inspire NEW people to learn to skate by making videos outside the very small world of skateboarding. We turn an ipad into a skateboard, skate on a big screen TV, and even a door. We focus not only on the creativity here but building the board and then all the way through to seeing what tricks can be done on it. Skaters have always been a creative bunch of people they take the normal ideas of society and change it to create their own world. Most people see a set of stairs we see a kick flip going down them. Our goal here is to take people that may never have thought of skateboarding before and get them on a board.
Brand enquiries please contact kylie@brailleskateboarding.com
I have created many ways to achieve the above goal and will list them all below. Different ways for different people so have a look through and see what fits you best.
“You Make it We Skate it” - our most popular series enjoyed bo skaters and non skaters alike - • YOU MAKE IT WE SKATE IT
“Skate anything” - our series where we search out what we can possibly make skate able - • SKATE ANYTHING

“Worst Board at the Park” - we find the worst board and replace it with a new one for tricks. Its all love supporting the community - • WORST BOARD AT THE PARK
Skate support - need help with that trick well watch the video here and send in your clip. We will do our best to make the video quickly but we have a lot of submissions. The end result gets posted on @Brailleskate Instagram - www.brailleska...
“Skateboarding Made Simple” - instead of KZbin tutorials where you can get lost here is a guided lesson plan to take you through the basics and beyond. Instant digital download and get started - www.brailleska...
Skateboard coaching - this is a totally new idea in the world of skateboarding. Get a list of tricks to learn in and submit your clips to a skateboard coach who walks you through how to land them. This is done through direct text messages and video sharing. The best way to guarantee success on your board as you have a person there to help, guide, and motivate you. Okay guys, the main reason why I ride high trucks is so I don't get wheel bite while skating. If you ride loose trucks i recommenced getting high trucks because it could save you eating shit down gaps and getting your trick quicker. If you ride tight trucks it doesn't really matter...

The physics behind hi vs low, in theory, should have the most impacting effect in turning dynamics. With two identical set-ups with the exception of truck height, the range of response in turning will have a greater span (the ability to make sharp turns more sensitively) on the high trucks than it will on the low truck. The height difference is mostly from a change in angle between the centerline of the kingpin and the centerline of the pivot on the hangar. When viewed from the side, it creates a more-acute angle on the higher truck increasing the sensitivity, rate and range of turn-ability. Yes some manufacturers make a different hangar that is higher, but for companies who do their research they will redesign a different hangar and change the aforementioned angles via a different baseplate design. This is why many manufacturers will claim that the higher model truck design is better suited for cruising & carving. The difference in hight isn't enough that you could feel in your pop, or spin tricks. You might think you feel it if you know the boards are different, but that's in your head. Some are a little more heavy, yes, but if you were handed two brand new, identical setups, but one with hi's and one with low's, and you were not told that the trucks were different (ie. you were told the boards were the same) you would not know otherwise. You might notice the steering abilities, but your flip tricks would not suffer. your ollie/pop would not suffer, and you would be none the wiser. Truth is, that the two decks would only be about 3-5mm different in height. This is not discernible enough to the average person to truly effect your skating. And, the few grams different in weight should be accommodated for in the extra height. The problem with testing this stuff is that you would need to do it with a machine because there is no easy way to understand and measure (control) the amount of force exerted by a human between two different ollies. your physical makeup is different between ollies, since you're muscles have already exerted the force once before, so you won;t get the same exact scientific performance each time. So, that being said, if you want to have a slightly wider range of control in your turns, go with the hi's, though it should be noted that if you ride tight trucks you are not going to get this benefit. If you don't care and really want to just get to skating just buy the brand you prefer that is in stock at your local shop and go skating. I hope this helps. On the other hand, if you're partaking in the superstition that just has to have the low's or has to have hi's, do your thing. If it's in your head it WILL affect your percieved abilities, that is a fact.

Hi Aaron, I'm just getting back into skating after a 25 year hiatus. The difference between high trucks and low trucks that I found is the amount of turn you can get. High trucks will allow you to turn slightly better than the low because of the distance between the top of the wheel and the board (provided wheel size is the same). Everything else, as you say, seems to matter very little. You can even ollie a skateboard quite well without wheels, it just won't roll that well. Thanks for all the skate tutorials, it's making relearning tricks a lot easier for me. Cheers, Chris.

High trucks give you more of that loose truck feeling because you don't get much wheel bite, and it feels better with smaller wheels, low trucks give you a quicker pop but you get more wheel bites, but it depends on how tight or loose your trucks are, I started with low trucks and now I'm skating highs, the truth is you get used to it and it feels almost the same

Hey Braille... A physics point of view regarding low vs high: (We'll suppose the guy applies the same force to the tail, with an equivalent technique to both sets) The fact that you touch the ground faster with your lower trucks shouldn't give you a higher pop. At that point, it's all about technique. You'll have less time to transfer the energy from your muscles to the board, so you had less time to give more speed to both sides of the board (nose and tail, considering the back truck as pivot), thus a less kinetic energy. And if it has less kinetic energy, the board shouldn't lift as much. With highs, you have a higher point, that means more potential energy, that'll later be transformed into kinetic energy(same principle from above). Thus, physically speaking, you should be able to do higher pops with a high truck. Now, you don't need to be a scientist to see that a higher truck, right next to a low set board, is more vertical when someone is stepping on the tail. If at that point, you apply a horizontal(strong and fast) force to the front (like when you do an ollie) at the same spot in both boards (lets choose the 2 front screws from the nose truck) the most vertical board will tend to set horizontally at a higher point. Now, something that affects the highness of an ollie(technique) is the moment when you drag your front foot forward. The more you wait, the more vertical the board get, and according to the paragraph above, the more vertical it is, the higher the ollie will be. Conclusion: higher trucks should (in theory) give you higher ollies. Know, technique will define if that applies to you or not. (This is just a supposition I made, please be free to correct me if I'm wrong. Also, sorry for my english(not my first language)

one can argue other factors for ollie height: The position of the axle/wheels relative to the board ends depending on each truck series. You can have a high truck with the wheels positioned relatively nearer to the centre of board and a low truck with wheels positioned relatively nearer to the ends of the board, resulting with the low truck giving a steeper angle when you pop. Its all about the geometry and position of the wheel. For height ollies one can argue that smaller people with smaller feet, legs may pop better on a lower angle/lower truck, because a higher angle does not fit their movement mechanics etc. This is all highly complex and I can also argue that the timeframe pushing down the tail is not defining the amount of energy you can put in the tail pop. Maybe some people can pop better/harder with a smaller timeframe/quicker snap - maybe the time frame of pushing down is also complicated with the ability to lift your body to jump, push your body into the air almost simultaneously. It seems to me the height of ollies is limited more by the ability to jump your body high into the air while popping the baord, than it is limited by the amount of energy you can stomp into the tail. Because you can stomp your tail into the ground all you want, it will give you only height up to the point where you can no longer lift and pull the board upwards in the air, which is limited by your jumping height. This seems to be very complex all around and what we can agree on is that this video is not addressing any of this.

Physics say that a higher velocity generates more (kinetic) energy, meaning that higher trucks generally let you pop higher, since you'd usually have your tail be faster down right before the ground, rather than when you start to push down.
@endercastman
@endercastman Жыл бұрын
work done (work done)=force x distance so it means that the greater distance the tail is off the ground, the the greater work done (or energy can be applied to it) since power is the rate of energy transfer or work done Power= _________ time assuming that you were to to hit the tail to the ground in the exact same time as you would with the the lower trucks and the high trucks this would mean more power would be produced by the high trucks and as power force= ________ velocity as we are also assuming that they take the same amount of time to hit the ground this would also mean that the tail with the higher trucks will have a greater velocity before hitting the ground as it has travelled a bigger distance in the same time so in reality the force that you apply to the ground (which will then cause a equal and opposite force that pushes your board off the ground) in both high or low will be pretty much the same so the distance the board will be off the ground will be pretty much the same so the only variables that change is that with low trucks you have a shorter time between pop and flick whereas in high trucks there will be a longer time period between pop/flick the rest about locking in and stuff is pretty much personal preference btw im not trying to start a whole internet argument here, just love physics+skating i might be wrong or right too you know and who cares anyway
@47Mortuus
@47Mortuus Жыл бұрын
@@endercastman "so the only variables that change is that with low trucks you have a shorter time between pop and flick" Dunno. You have more time to build up velocity with higher trucks. I would not assume that both boards' tails would hit the ground at the same time, I'd say the _acceleration_ is the same; that variable doesn't change either: the skater. Also I think that with higher trucks, the angle the board is at in relation to the ground when you hit the ground allows the front foot to do more literal lifting to even out the board in the air. So...: higher trucks => more pop + a lot of the board being at a higher altitude already when popping = higher Ollies (to a point; there's probably an individual sweet spot)
@endercastman
@endercastman Жыл бұрын
@@47Mortuus its fun talking about this man, you know what i didnt really factor in the angle of the board and youre completely right about that. i kinda thought that pop really meant more of the force that the tail could apply to the ground (like jumping) but you're smart to realise its like jumping but as well the factor of your front foot going up the board because "pop" really just means the hight of the board of the ground. you are right by saying that higher trucks probably give you a higher pop and i both think were both agreeing that the force applied to the ground would be the same but just for different reasons

Well, basically it's a matter of physics. If you ride low trucks, the center of mass of the board is closer to the rotation axis during a flip...hard to tell if anyone would feel a difference but in theory,a board with low trucks should be spinning faster than a board with high trucks. ...in theory...

@starrypanda1394
@starrypanda1394 8 жыл бұрын
its not so much about pop its about the boards position at the moment you kick out to level out the board , the higher the truck/wheel combination the more vertical the board at the moment of leveling out and that makes for higher ollies, and that's not an opinion ,its simple physics, with that said their is defiantly an issue of what your comfortable with usually influenced greatly by what you learned to skate on and your local terrain ,that's why we have choices ,so if being lower is more natural to you I think thats more important then the few extra mm you get from higher trucks , same goes for board size, wheel size , truck tightness , concave, nose and tail heights its all preference ,there's no right or wrong . sometimes you might want a slightly different set up for specific riding or trick situations but for the most part its all about you feeling comfortable on your board so you have the confidence to do cool shit

Now, in my opinion (self preference) the more lower you are on the ground the more i can stick my grinds on... 'cause when i use higher trucks i observe that the tail is way high and i really push my nose more on the ledge while doing nose grind, then when i started using low trucks, the tail is now lower and i press less on my nose... well try to imaging the leverage of both trucks on a board.. example (while doing nose manual) high trucks = tail is leveled a bit higher low trucks = tail i leveled lower oh well this is my opinion on using low tor high trucks, yeah it does goes well with my skating and now i continue using low trucks hope you guys understand my explanation / opinion :) thanks :)

Ive always heard that if youre going to be doing grinds or stair rails, you would use highs, but if flatground or low impact is what you do, go with lows, and with wheels, larger for street, shitty ground, and smaller for park/ concrete skating, but in the end its how you feel with what setup, just like board size, i still to this day have no idea what my preferred size is

Difference between low vs. High trucks: turning, wheel size You can add risers to low trucks to improve turning and to use bigger wheels. For beginners low trucks with small wheels (52mm or lower) can help in learning tricks, popping the board. For street skating you can basically use any size truck or wheel, especially is you land tricks consistently. If you're skating pools or snake run like transition, that's when you'd especially need to consider turning in your truck purchases. If you skate a lot on rough, cracked cement/street, or skate vert, get a bigger wheel size (52mm and up) and get the appropriate truck or truck with riser for you needs. I currently ride 53mm wheel with tensor regs. it has more than enough turning for street skating, like a lot of truck and wheel combos. I could use a bit more turning for transition. I can add risers to my board, if I wanted. Riserless Low trucks are just for street skate. Many pro skaters do not skate low trucks.

Well actually I’m not entirely correct. Only roughly half of the wheel adds to the height. So a 55mm truck with 50mm wheels would still be a littlenhigher than a 50mm truck with 55mm wheels.

Different truck brands have different highs and lows. like, indies trucks, their hi's and lows have a huge and very noticeable difference and then Thunder trucks have almost no difference. to be exact, they have a quarter inch difference. So really different brands have different high and low trucks, but like Aaron says a lot, its really is just a matter of preference.

I think technique matters way more than setup. However, I've heard that higher trucks equals more pop because of the extra force too. I've got a low setup right now. I'm planning on getting higher trucks and a wider board in the future to help prevent heel and toe drag (I've got big feet), as well as less wheelbite. I think the differences are so minor they'll be easy to adjust to, but they'll be different enough to help me in the areas I mentioned. Lower center of gravity equals more stability though, which I think is why a lot of more technical skaters tend to favor Lo trucks, but like Aaron pointed out, we're talking very minor differences in height. I think it's like a 1/4 inch at the most.

The difference I’ve seen is wheel bite. Maybe it’s just a mind game but since I switched to highs I don’t find myself wheel biting like I used to. My trucks aren’t crazy loose or anything either. I ride some highs and that tiny bit of difference of wheel to board clearance is the reason why I choose highs.
@anthonygonsalves7020
@anthonygonsalves7020 9 жыл бұрын
Much better pop with high/mids vs lows. I used to ride lows for about 10 years and switched to mids just recently. Pops so much better but I always feel that lows have better stability. Also, as weird as it sounds, I feel much more comfortable skating long distance lows than mids or highs (though wheel bite sucks a little bit). Telling the difference isn't difficult if you've been skating for a long time.

In the amount time I've been skating I've had Hi and Lo trucks and not notice any significants differences in them. Since they been out so long that people don't know the reason for them being made. When they first came out it suppose to be more durable, lighter and lower center gravity truck. Since the king pin and the structure of them have a lower profile it was suppose to allow the board better maneuvering and bring more skate ability to the deck and the skater. This is what I remember from the ads and what I've heard. I would say that its like the suspension on your car. The lower you go the smaller tires and rims that can be fit without rubbing and the higher you go the larger you can fit or pretty much whatever you want. or If you look at based of of physics its like a teeter totter the more leverage you have the high you can make the other person go. Like Aron said the higher the truck the more pop you get... Also with that i think that board shape come into play with all that as well cuz if you have a 1 your going to a Lo trucks cuz fig you use Hi trucks you will have too much leverage. and if you use a 6 you go for Hi trucks cuz your probably not going to get the same amount of pop out of it. This is why i love skating its all about the ride you want and the set up you want to kill the streets with. Hopefully what i said made sense to you guys.

@CrashySmashyKyle

the biggest difference between high and low trucks is the wheel size that can be used before getting wheel bite. I have size 14 shoes and skate with 58mm or larger wheels, so I always go for high trucks which allow them to be looser and have large wheels without rubbing the board. If I ride with low trucks and huge wheels, then the amount of leverage I assert when I turn would get me into wheel bite territory almost all the time lol. Plus, pool carving is fun. Since I have the big wheels, good bearings, and high trucks with riser pads, I can carve around all kinds of squiggly lines until I get tired from pumping. Then I high five myself and take a nap :D

High trucks with High bases, coupled with small/ medium wheels, with the trucks loosened off, have the most wheel-board distance and allow the most travel, this allows better turning without having to kick turn/tictac, this combination is more for freestyle, street or down hill, when using a regular double kick concave deck.

I always thought high trucks were for small wheel riders or park riders. People who run on skatelite or really smooth slick ramps usually run super soft wheels that wear out fast so running a higher truck would help keep the board rideable for a longer period to get the most life out of smaller/worn wheels. Although larger wheels or super loose trucks will also benefit from higher trucks if your getting wheel bite. Its a small difference in the trucks design but if you don't know what trucks you need just get the lows and throw some risers on if it feels more comfortable. Everybody's different so experiment and ride what feels the best for YOU.

Wheel size can get your tail closer to the ground to make up for high trucks, however street skating you will notice the rolling resistance change with wheel size. You can drop wheel size instead of truck height to locate your tail closer to the ground but will have to deal with slower rolling. A low truck with big wheels can create wheel bite but a riser can remedy that, of course it will then raise the height of the tail off the ground to equal a high truck. Kind of a vicious circle.

I recommend using high trucks for most street skaters. They generate more pop, and prevent you from getting wheel-bite if you like jumping down gaps. Bigger wheels technically also generate more pop, btw. But the difference isn't really noticeable enough for me to recommend big wheels. I don't go any bigger than 52mm.

I don't skate but in regards to the distance that you cover popping I can make an analogy with bow shooting which may or may not make sense to you or be relevant lol. Bows shoot faster and further when they have a higher draw length (how far back you pull the string) even if two bows have the same poundage (force required for maximum draw length), the energy in the arrow is equal to the force applied and the distance that the force is applied for multiplied together. I feel like if you stomp on the tail with the same force but for a further distance you would put more energy into the board causing it to pop harder.

to reach height with tricks is not limited how high you can pop your board in the air, but how high you can simultaneously catapult your whole body centre into the air. While you push down the tail to pop, you are already jumping into the air and the longer it takes until the tail hits the groundm the more difficult to rise your body up in the air jumpimng. Thats my experience. The steepest tail and highest trucks will give beginners a "suck up" ollie and height, but diminish their jumping height. Everyone needs to find a balance on these parameters.
@koltonmccallister6170
@koltonmccallister6170 7 жыл бұрын
Tyler Jones I like how you think... but bow physics are a little different... think about having a board twice the height of one already with highs. you're gonna waste your legs output energy getting the tail down and nose up to have good pop. and besides, pop is more about the skater. if you can't really jump that high anyways, you won't have pop lol but yeah, for better pop, stick with a low board with a steep tail (I know he said the shallower one would get to the ground first, but he's missing the point- the steeper tail will make the nose rise higher). watch an Ollie slow motion. typically, the highest anyone ever gets, is a little lower than the highest point the nose reached, after they level the board out in air.
@koltonmccallister6170
@koltonmccallister6170 7 жыл бұрын
Tyler Jones board wise, physics speaking, the high trucks WILL get the nose higher, but a: it diminishes your natural jump (you better be Michael Jordan to get the most out of highs) b: the weight factor that you really cant feel,( but I bet if you measured Ollie height with equal sized trucks, but one weighing more, the weight would bring the Ollie down) and c: it wastes power. for me, in practice, the extra height is offset by the extra weight, so I can Ollie just as high on either, although personally, I'm good at noticing slight changes in weight, temperature, barometric pressures (I know, it's strange) so it is more taxing skating a higher board, not to mention the higher center of gravity throws my balance off, especially on stairsets.

“HIGH” VS. “LOW” KINGPIN When assembled, the head of the kingpin is fastened to the hanger, facing the ground. Because the hanger is used to grind, stall and perform other tricks, some skaters like having the kingpin situated flush with the rest of the hanger. This is a “high” kingpin truck. “Low” kingpins are set deeper into the hanger, leaving a gap in the surface area. The whole truck is seated lower to allow for more leverage in popping ollies or busting kickflips. Lowered trucks are primarily used by technical skaters.

You're supposed to have high trucks with bigger wheels and low trucks with smaller wheels. So when you have big wheels it's recommended to have taller trucks so they're farther away for more clearance. It's like lifting an off-road vehicle so the big tires will fit.

Low trucks Pros: Smaller center of gravity being closer deck, making it easier to flip. Cons: Wheels closer to deck higher chance of wheel bite. -Deck is closer to ground, gives less pop. -Must ride tighter trucks. High Trucks: Pros: Further off ground, more pop. -Further gap between deck, less chance of wheel bite. -Can ride loose or tight trucks. Cons: Harder to flip, trucks are further from deck giving larger center of gravity. Also, like other comments say, you should have used the exact same setup such as the same wheel size, bushings, decks..etc. Then test the trucks to see the differences. Theres no point in posting a video with no prior knowledge or learning nothing from your test.

IMO With low trucks, your board will pop sooner, meaning that you would flick sooner sooner. High trucks mean you have to wait a little longer before your board pops. That's how I've always thought of it. I would say that you get higher tricks with trucks than you would with low trucks but you run the risk of not popping with highs. I sometimes might not pop on highs because I feel like I don't wait long enough to finish the Pop and the sliding of my foot. Personally some days I want lows, other I feel like highs. Just try them both out and see which one you like

This is not always true. For instance, I skate independent stage 11 139 trucks (not hollow) not sure if I spelled that right but whatever. One time I borrowed my friends board (he had the exact same deck) that had Thunder trucks. I could DEFINITELY tell a difference. Mine had WAYYYYYYYYY more pop than his and I felt a lot higher off the ground. On his I felt like I was kissing the ground and when I popped all my tricks they were really low to the ground. Thats my personal opinion but if you wanna hate, go right ahead.

You're pop was bigger because you were used to the (every so slightly) longer pop of high trucks so, when you tried to pop the other board, you just weren't used to it (most likely, sorry if this sounds like I'm trying to say this as a sure thing). I personally don't think one is better than the other.

My best advice for this is take a look at an Olympic weightlifters shoe. The heels are elevated. Even as small as a quarter of an inch in heel elevation can change the entire dynamic of your hips, shoulders, and ankles which in the end effects your center of gravity while riding your board and I think this can relate perfectly to go with how a small change in truck height can change the big picture even if you can’t feel it. I think you should choose the trucks you feel most balanced and comfortable on.

I would think it might be the same idea as the lifting a truck. it is dependent on the size tire or wheel in the case of a skateboard. the bigger wheel you want (for whatever reason) the higher your board needs to sit above the axle to avoid wheel bite. You do the same on a truck to avoid rub from the tires on the wheel well.

Flick harder so the board spins faster that way it will not need to be popped super high.

As your wheels wear out it also makes a difference on your trucks. You just won't notice because you ride your board every day. When I get new wheels it's a little hard to land tricks at first because I have to get used to wheel bite lol.

I was taught highs can carve better as the pivot is usually increased and lows usually have a recessed kingpin for better grinding.

+A$AP BiSHOP The Curse of the Bambino was a superstition evolving from the failure of the Boston Red Sox baseball team to win the World Series in the 86-year period from 1918 to 2004. While some fans took the curseseriously, most used the expression in a tongue-in-cheek manner.

The main difference specially with ventures and thunders are the clearance of the king pin. With highs you will have less hang up mainly with smiths and feeble grinds. Plus the less wheel bite with highs.

There are mids also, thats what I use. I think my wheels are 54mm. Soft/Hard wheels will affect your skateboarding more than the trucks. Soft wheels are for grip, and they're quieter, hard wheels allow you to slide, and are sometimes annoying, but hard wheels are better in my opinion

if u dont know if u skate high trucks or low trucks and u say its a tiny difference that doesnt matter, then why are u so picky about 77.5 vs 8. u always have to skate 77.5 and its just a tiny small difference for an 8.

There is defenitly a difference between lows and highs. I started with highs and when i swiched to lows i get much better feel of the board when i grind it, flip it, ollie it and even when i just ride it. Lows givs you much better board feel when you ride it, flip it, grind it and ollie it. High trucks is for those who likes ride rough streets with big wheels under the board or miniramp. Bigger wheels gives you more speed. High trucks for skateboarding technical use not so good.

it totally depends on wich brand your trucks are. If you have thunder highs, and next you buy thunder lows you will hardly tell the difference. but if you skate venture highs, and then buy venture lows you will feel a bigger difference. Maybe because venture had a "mid" size as well and thunder don't. But it's different from brand to brand and thats it. and just like Aaron said, it depends on the wheels to. i recently bought a whole new set up with thunder highs and 54mm wheels, it was really awkward at first when i before had (from the beginning) 52mm wheels and venture lows. so in my opinion there is a difference depending on what brand of trucks you skate!

I would think the most logical, decisive factor for using one or the other is wheel size. More clearance = less wheel bite + less need for risers. Also, the ride "feel" is significantly different enough (more solid feedback from the riding surface) to consider your preference when choosing a height. Another, completely different idea I had while typing. Having spent a lot of my life locked away in the machine shops of Silicon Valley. It's not impossible that someone fat fingered a setting and it went unnoticed for an extended period. To the point that it made more sense to come out with a second choice in height vs. reworking thousands of parts. Then you have the only product that gives the rider that many options to personalize his set up. Now the competition has to step up their game. All because fn Dave over there got baked at lunch that one day. #happymistakes #thisiswhyicantgetanythingdun

the one major difference and probs the only difference at all between high trucks and low trucks would be its basic turning speed, if your board is further away from your wheels it means you can turn harder without wheel bite occurring, to an extent of coarse, and tbh its really personal preference and the extra turn isnt much either

I ride independent highs 139s with 54 mm wheels and a 8" board. I think the higher trucks give your board more of a steeper angel when your tail pops on the floor which means you can drag your front foot more giving you more lift of the ground. Also when turning you have more clearance between the bottom of the board and the top of the wheel which should allow for less wheel bite. As long as your truck's are not to lose and your not riding 60mm dirt crushers!
@johnconcentrius
@johnconcentrius 9 жыл бұрын
I would say if you ride loose trucks and/or use big wheels get high trucks, you'll have more clearance. If you ride tighter trucks and/or use smaller wheels, get lows you will not need as much clearance. From what I've noticed about high's and low's are if you want the best pop use small wheels with high trucks, you can use more force to pop and the small wheels move faster because they are lighter.

i was skating lows for the longest time because i liked the idea being closer to the ground, but i started noticing with certain trucks like venture and thunder, the kingpin is almost flush with the axle and caused me a lot of hangups, now i skate highs only because the kingpin sits lower but i just skate 50mm wheels so i can still be close to the ground

I rode lows all last year, got fed up with the wheelbite since I ride my trucks pretty loose, put some risers in at the end of the year & it was much better, next time I buy highs.

My board is 8.5" wide w high trucks and I didn't realize how handicapped it made me after I rode a friends Wide board 10" with Lower trucks ! Wow, it had a ton more control & I actually skated into a bowl and could do it on his board. So he gave me some smaller diameter wheels to put on my board 65 to 55 an It made a huge difference in control. I could go down in the bowl previously I couldnt. This week.
