I love that at 6:45 you can see the effect of alternating current. It pulses into the water almost like with a mini fire and exhausts out into the other wire almost. You can see the initial pulse change sides as the current alternates direction. Mental. I love deep stuff like this.

gmaxsc because if I film a light plugged into a wall at even 1000 fps theres a big amount of black frames, in this case even at very high frame rates the gap is short. I will test the frequency later out of curiosity.

as a former sign maker, this video is terrifying. the last thing you ever want to do with a neon transformer is arc between the electrodes particularly through water. on the other hand, as a videophile, it's AWESOME! thanks so much for making it
@55Ramius7 жыл бұрын
I have a 9000 volt neon transformer and first played with it in 1972. One day I was making a glass bead by having one wire over a small pile of wet sand. Other wire was in the sand. Resulting arcing produced a purple bead but before done , both wires came loose and landed on my thumbs. All that electricity was going to my chest. My eyes just turned off. Could only see black and what seemed forever, I managed to push myself backwards with my legs and broke contact. Geeez, thought I was going to die. But I still have the transformer, just a hell of a lot more careful. btw my eyesight returned to normal once loose. If you use a single strand of old screen wire and arc to it, it will spark heavy then ball up until it cant melt anymore and just do small sparks. Now, that is with 9000 volts. 15,000 may not ball up and stop. Never had a more powerful transformer to try it.
@WarpedYT7 жыл бұрын
+55Ramius well I'll tell you this, I had an old transformer like that but I lend it out and I never got it back, they don't make them like that anymore , I believe that one was 10000 volts 5 amps, I'm pretty sure that'll kill you if you hold onto it long enough, the newer ones like this and the solid-state versions are much less amperage , like a hundred fifty times less. Do you still have that old Transformer? Does it still work, I would like to see a picture.
@55Ramius7 жыл бұрын
I saw no way to send you a picture of my old 9000 volts transformer you asked for in comments. I tried putting it and a short video on your Facebook but I don't see it. Also see no direct email so what option do I have?
@55Ramius7 жыл бұрын
So you are the guy doing the Warped Perception videos? As for amps, have no idea but must be micro or I would be dead I think. I tried a video of it running also besides the picture. There used to be a small metal plate on it long ago I think but is long gone. Do not remember any specs other than 9000 volt. did you see a video on FaceBook? I have no channel yet or a website. I don't know for sure where I could place things like this and just link you too it.
@WarpedYT7 жыл бұрын
55Ramius well I don't make the videos all on my own ( I wish that was possible ) , I write , direct and host them. that's cool, I saw the pictures but not the video. I will look again. I'm sure those older transformers are higher amps. I mean if you raise the amperage even a little, the wattage multiplies exponentially so it becomes more dangerous.

Awesome! I love the sparks and the slow motion footage. I was at a science center years ago and saw over 1 million volts of electricity being shot into the air via Tesla Coil. That’s pretty intense. I love to see things like that as long as everyone spectating is safe. That’s so cool. I’d like to see an experiment with a transformer outside shooting sparks into the air like a power line. I saw tons of power line footage which is very very scary even for the power companies. I say to all who view this comment, be careful with electricity. Do not play around unless you know what you are doing. Just a word of advice to all watching. Do not touch a downed power line. If you see one, call the authorities immediately and let the professionals take care of it.

That must be alternative current ay? You can physically see the plasma pulsing back and forth producing the sound in a pulsing manner when listened to in slow motion. At 5:47 you can see how the current alternates and how the water is being electrolysed and it ignites some of the hydrogen with oxygen on each electrical strike.

Very cool! It's good practice to leave your left hand behind your back when you deal with say electricity above ~400 volts. You are trusting the insulation on those wires a lot. Consider making one or both of the things you use to move the wire be out of or insulated material or just attach it with insulated material in-between you and the wire. Example: ducttape a small visegrips to a plastic serving ladle you might have in your kitchen.

I dont know if its actually what you are seeing, but it looks like you can see the direction of the electrons traveling from the wires thru the water. When one wire sparks and there is a lot of turbulence under, on the other side, it seems like it is very calm with a blue ring around the spark in the water. 5:27 Then after about 2 sparks, it switches sides. 5:39 I dont know if I am imagining that but thats what it looks like I saw.

You should try this setup: plastic bottle filled with salty water, one electrode submerged into it, the other one sparking the outside of the bottle, I did this once with a very powerful spark generator (I dont remember the voltage or power, but the sparks looked much more violent than the once you got with that one), anyway, give it a try, maybe it looks awesome as well with your transformer, it makes like a tree kind of shape, its amazing. Great channel, keep it up!

that was really good, and as you said, I think this thing has some potential to it. when I was a kid, I had one of these, I used to play with it, try putting it through a magnet, one of those sphere or oval looking magnets, the sparks kind of surround the magnet in a cool way, and also try to put it through wood with water on it, or try gasoline lol that might look cool too I dunno! keep up the good work! :)

Those that are concerned about deadly electric shocks from this... The heart runs on approximately 5v, and if another voltage reaches it, won't be overly troubled unless there is enough current to cause significant damage to the flesh. Since the current is similar all along the path, then the flesh damage would be visible at the surface on the way in, and out. Also, current tends to spread out through the entire body, lessening its specific effect on the heart. As the heart is buried somewhere in the middle, a shock of 15kV would present between 5kV and 10kV at the heart, and at an extremely low relative current due to the current being shared by many tissues. More current would flow where there is a nerve or a vessel, as both are high in salts and water. As a T.V. technician working on the old tube sets, I was occasionally shocked when things went wrong. Our workstations were all isolated from ground to reduce the option for power to flow. I had to touch two parts at the same time to earn myself a coffee break. Some of the shocks were unsettling and warranted a rest period. The nervous system is most susceptible to the effects of electric shock, as OP can testify.
