Polestar 2 driver here for 3 years now- no problems with the car, it’s been flawless. Love the infotainment - I’m constantly asking Google to find parking and to find a specific track/music on Spotify. Agree with you on the rear space, it’s very tight for taller children and adults, which is reason I’m swapping it for a BMW iX.

I own a 2023 LRSM Polestar 2. Would have loved to get the 2024 version however I could not wait and interest rates didn't make sense. I average 17 kWh/100km (my car is the 78kWh pack standard in Canada) so I am content with that however I would have liked the additional performance of the 2024. It's a great car overall.

Great video. Not sure about what you said about pricing though, at least in the Netherlands. A base Model 3 LR costs €52.000 and a comparable Polestar 2 LR about €55.000. There is a 3000 difference and this gives some wiggle room (Tesla has heated rear seats, Polestar the better interior and quality for example) but apart from details, they really are equal in that regard. The 3 comes with the horrid 18" 'Photon' wheels, if you opt for the much better looking (and equal to the polestars, 19") Nova wheels, they're just €1300 apart in price. I'm ordering the PS2 SMLR next month 🙂Partly because I don't like Tesla interiors and partly because I am a Volvo-guy, so the Polestar fits my preference much better.
@autogefuehl
@autogefuehl Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Is that price difference also when you add the Plus package? Then it is more comparable to the Model 3 equipment wise
@musje83
@musje83 Жыл бұрын
@@autogefuehl Hmm no, didn't consider the Plus package. With the wheels mentioned earlier, the Tesla is then 6700 cheaper. Take maybe 1500-2000 from that for the premium audio Polestar adds to that package and maybe the 120€/year for connectivity (let's say 1200€ for a 10-year lifespan) and the difference is around 4.000. That's still a lot, but less than 10.000! Oh well, in the end it's all about preference. I like Tesla, but as you said, the heart chooses Polestar and since I don't need the plus package, I'm all happy!
@360theosiris
@360theosiris Жыл бұрын
If you truly spec it to be equal to the model 3 LR, its a massive price difference. To get similar performance you need the twin motor on the P2 and both plus and pilot packages to match the equipment. I just requested a quote to get it in lease through my employer and the difference was 53.000 for the model 3 and 67.000 for the P2(both with tow bar) I prefer the polestar but there is no way to justify that price. And then it still has less range, no cooled seats, … Belgian prices so won’t be too far off Netherlands. 😁

Great review as always, although I’d appreciate also to have a mountain road driving / driving pleasure part. What I don’t necessarily agree with is how you dismiss the smallest battery option. I know that overall the long range option is better, but the base one still offers a decent range for less money, actually a range that is better than many cars closer to that lower price point (like the new Smarts, EX30, ID3…).

I don't think this is a direct competitor to the Model 3. Tesla is nowhere near as refined. Even the older Polestar 2 felt in a totally different league, a much higher quality car, far better chassis, much more comfortable, better materials, better build quality, way better noise levels, etc. It's like comparing an Audi to a Skoda. Yes the Tesla has the power and the range, but as a car, I wouldn't think twice which one to buy.

@benjaminsmith2287

@@ws1814 Here we go with the "Chinese" silliness again. This car is designed and engineered in Sweden, not China and it's just built in a factory in China. That's the only thing "Chinese" about it. But it is built to a much higher standard than anything Tesla makes as it is built to Volvo standards. Accept that as a car Tesla is not the most sophisticated brand. As a tech showcase and efficient BEV, yes, here's where they excel. But not as cars in terms of build and mechanical refinement.

@Andersljungberg
@Andersljungberg Жыл бұрын
Volkswagen did a survey that showed only 50% took the electric car out on long trips. The concern was perhaps finding charging places, what it costs to charge and how long the journey would take. The navigator in the car may therefore be important. And that you don't need to charge the car often to get to the destination

I got the previous year's version of Polestar 2 for a day while my XC40 was in for a yearly inspection, I loved every part of it, except one: my 750ml glass water bottle, that easily fits into the cup holders or twice in the front door pockets of the Volvo, could not fit anywhere in the Polestar. A real first world problem, but it was surprising. As far as I can see on the video, this did not improve in the new one. Otherwise the car's range was great, in the -5° to -10° southern German winter the car would consistently show the remaining range from the time I picked it up, even with the heating set to high whenever I drove it and spending the night on the street. It was also perfectly stable on icy country roads.

2022 P2 (Long Range, Dual Motor, AWD, Plus and Pilot packages) owner, about 10k miles on it as of now. There were some issues in the first 6 months or so regarding the TCAM connectivity, I ended up needing to take it in 3 times to have it fixed/updated, but since about November last year I have not had any issues. The car itself I'm pretty happy with, though I strongly argue all of the features of the Pilot pack should have been standard. Pretty much every other EV at that price range had the lane keep assist and the parking assist standard to the car, and the handful of EVs that had 360-capable cameras also had the 360 view included. For the price (just under $59k all said and done) I think it should have had more range (est 260 miles on 100% charge) to be more in line with other cars of that price, as well as faster charging (currently roughly 30 minutes from 20% to 80%). My only other issue is that in order to get ventilated seats, you had to get the leather seats, which was only available with the Performance Pack. I wish that was something made available for regular cloth seats. Despite those downsides, it is amazing to drive. Very smooth, very responsive, acceleration is great and suspension feels excellent.

Makes no sense from a business standpoint. In too many markets Volvo and Polestar sells cars, wagons are not selling well. Volvo hung on for a long time trying to sell wagons in North America and the sales have tumbled badly. Sadly, all-electric Volvo wagons are a low priority. They may make them, but the SUVs, then sedans, come first.

Wait... no cover for the sunroof? Wth! That's terrible. Can only imagine how uncomfortable it gets in summer. Also, the back seat space, yikes. I prefer my Ioniq 6's plentiful rear leg room (seems to be double the length of this). Trade off is definitely boot practicality but that isn't a real issue day to day.

Much smaller than the Tesla Model 3. Yet more expensive. Good review.

Wouldnt call it “much” smaller since it is just 96mm less long but taller than the model 3.

Dunno, the rear seat felt really cramped and claustrophobic. It's 4 inches shorter and it shows.@@j800q

Size isn't what makes a car more or less expensive than another car. It's built much better and has more refinement than the Model 3. The Model 3 has more efficiency and better tech/charging/performance. Depending on your priorities, the Polestar is either worth it or not. But Polestar is an expensive brand.

The material and quality impression is far from that of many competitors Take the wooden strip on the instrument panel - sounds hollow and a cheap feeling on the plastic around the gear selector The interior service does not feel snug No - this will not be enough

Polestars feel and drive just like sporty Volvos. The sound, smells, weight of materials and switches, all of that feels pretty much identical. I think the Polestar 4 may feel different because it is based on a Zeekr but the Polestar 2 and upcoming 3, 5 and 6 will all feel like Volvos, albeit sportier.

Designed by Volvo as the Concept 40.2. Volvo didn't use the body and Polestar used it for the Polestar 2. Has a lot of Volvo bits in it but a lot of unique Polestar bits as well.

Fantastic car, fantastic colors and their names and I love the design of the seat options. Love the new look. You can't notice the wind noise on high speeds and what you hear when you pay attention is very pleasant, they did a very good job. The best looking door handles by far and I could accept the not flashy key fob. They only have to fix that rear seat and the interface, which actually goes hand in hand with that key fob. What kind of an EV has poor and ugly tech? And no knobs, they don't belong in EVs, I don't even like to see them in regular cars, if you want to go electric and eco friendly and get rid of the primitive stuff, such as ICEs, then you have to get rid of the knobs, too. No knobs, no leather, no wood.

@@godofdun I understand, but if you're implementing a futuristic approach in EVs and if you plan to make them capable of autonomous driving or fully autonomous, and also to serve as lounges, there is no need for knobs, buttons or even key fobs, it should all be operated by cards, phones, chips, codes and sensors, no gestures, because you're not a crazy person. There should be an entire ecosystem between the owner and his vehicle, with logs and databases on all the servicing, repairs and available parts and ordering options, charging stations, dealerships and authorised workshops, registration and insurance data and not ever again having or choosing to go to the DMV for example, countless possibilities, also, biometrics could be dangerous, so they should be optional. Knobs and buttons still belong in electric RAMs and JEEPs, if you know what I mean. Switches should be optional for people who still want them, when they spec their car. It may be more expensive for the car makers to provide customers with both options, so they should make autonomous EVs with no analog parts for one type of customers and regular EVs with buttons and switches for another type of customers, with a small extra charge for autonomous driving depending on the degree of autonomy, in time, they will figure out everything, it's not complicated at all. It's good for the economy, the suppliers will still be able to make good money, with a slow, but stable transitioning process to deliver new solutions and it's also good for science and advanced technologies and new job prospects, openings and training opportunities.

Polestar 2's cheapest version is 51200EUR. That is *without adaptive cruise control*. If you want adaptive cruise control, you need to cough up an extra 3k. Do you want a glass roof? Cough up another 5k. You reach 59200EUR. Still no cooled seats, by the way. Tesla Model 3 Standard Range is 42900, and has all of that included. I really don't see the value of Polestar 2 in this comparison. A bit more space? You can get a Model Y LONG RANGE with AWD for 53900, which still comes cheaper than RWD standard range Polestar 2. Why?
