I moved into hauling liquid hazmat over twenty years ago from OTR 53' vans and never looked back. A driver can easily make over 100k a year and if you are in the right area you can get on with a local company.

I do LTL and make over 100k, why would I do something way more risky like hauling those wind turbines for the same pay? The pay should be way more for something like that.

nobody will hire fresh drivers with no experience for these gigs. i had to endure 2+ years with a company that had zero regard for maintenance, luckily i'm still alive, and now with walmart fleet i clear 6 figures a year hauling 53' dryvans locally (home every day). Also have 10 sick days and 3 weeks of vacation pay yearly.

Okay, so I have a really serious question? I want to change my entire life/career and become a trucker. I was stupid with my license when I was younger, but that was the past. If you have a felony theft, but it will be deferred after probation and no serious moing violations besides one car accident unfortunately within one year. How many trucking companies does anyone know would hire?
@OverTheRoadATSАй бұрын
Hey! Trucking can be a great fresh start. With a deferred felony and one recent accident, some carriers may still consider you, especially smaller or second-chance companies. Attending CDL school can also help, as they often partner with flexible carriers. Research companies with lenient policies, and stay honest in your applications. Good luck!

you'd think that DoD loads would pay well, considering the required qualifications, but they don't.
@OverTheRoadATSАй бұрын
Interesting. How do you figure?
@shelbynamels7948Ай бұрын
@@OverTheRoadATS to answer, I need to go way back in memory, which is hazy in the best of times. But I recall a story about a DoD agency (not civilian transport) that provides transportation of of ammo, explosives and the like. Aside from being drivers, they also receive some tactical training and carry weapons, similar to armored car guards. I remember looking at the listed pay and benefits and thinking that considering the required qualifications, the money is nothing to write home about. If you need to have tactical training, a cop in a big city police department makes better pay, and as a driver working in a better paying sector of the trucking industry the money is better as well. On balance, if you are talking about hi-risk loads, there are better paying opportunities in the industry
