This is what I love whenever I listen to ANY genre of music before 1998 - the vocals took MANY real takes to get it perfect - not 'I will fix it in post after 1 bad take with "autotune". You can clearly hear how smooth and real it sounds!! None of my music has any pitch altering done to the songs as I want them to sound real. Also many of them are a first take and no edits to remove bad bits. So when they are good - they are really that good and best of all REAL!

1977. Kansas was a bar band in a sm town in Kansas. They had sent a demo to an Eastern producer who called the bar & was told they would be at that bar in 2 wks. The band thought they were going to them. So they printed 500 fliers. Ea band member drove to the sm towns in a 50 mile radius & nailed them on ph & elec poles & placed in windows of shops, business & restaurants hoping to fill the bar. The sign read FREE beer!!! Come watch the band Kansas. History was made. Place was packed, hundreds in line & hundreds in cars bumper to bumper for miles.... As close to stats as i can remember. They got their 1st contract

Sweet story. I wonder what the bar tab was!
@discinmike8 күн бұрын
I appreciate your love for the band. But being an eyewitness to their organic generation of prosperity, I would like to share. I moved to Topeka Kansas spring of 73. Their hometown. I was attending Topeka West. I watched them play in the outdoor amphitheater on campus and fell in love with the violin. Shortly thereafter they produced their first album. Then we watch them play in the school auditorium in 74. The story we heard was that they were out in Hays Kansas playing A bar there and that was about the time of the story of the distributing of the bills to come and watch them play. Don kirschner at That time signed them to contract for his Don kirchner's rock concerts on Friday nights. To this day, Robbie steinhardt's violin is arguably the best rock and roll violin ever. I would say their first four albums are their most creative. When you write and arrange all your own music and two of your songs are played more than any other song of that era on the radio To this day, 50 years later you deserve to be in the Rock and roll Hall of Fame.

Would love to get their reactions hearing it on vinyl thru a high-powered stereo amp, surrounded by the bass from the woofers. A few of us used to hook up literal PA boxes and stage monitors with 15's and compression horns in our living rooms. Ah, those chest compressions...

For anyone that was raised in the 70s like myself...our ears were blessed with this kind of music all the time. Just turn on the radio. Any band that came out with a new song during that era.. had to bring it! The level of talent was so high (i.e., Led Zeppelin, Boston, Kansas, Floyd, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Bad Company.....and the list just goes on and on....that there was no room for junk music. Thank goodness we can still listen to it either on our vinyls we still possess.. or on KZbin. Love watching the younger generations reacting and loving this music. Great reaction ❤

Steve Walsh has an unforgettable voice. Love Kansas! BUT I can't help but feel nostalgic with this song and the last episode of the tv series Supernatural, when the boys finally rest still together. Most season finales used this song, but man almost cry every time I hear it. Dust in the Wind, favorite high school song when it released (I'm in my 60's). Great to have a new generation loving the70's music

The radio dial was busy in the 70s..elvis still playing, old 50s, 60s/70s, folk, disco, pop, Elton john types,southern rock, hard rock, and the random metal station for priest led and maiden (usually at midnight. For the me the king biscuit hour), and even country. It was AWESOME.

@jacklewis54527 ай бұрын
they weren't many rock stations so the dial was set and you listened to what they played.......one song would be soft rock, the next song would be heavy metal, then country then disco.....you didnt get to choose the genre, you just listened and appreciated all types of music.......until rap music and hip hop came out.
@susanroe33674 ай бұрын
Yes, the radio played all genres back then but really all of it was called rock and roll, except for country.

Dude, Kansas has a pretty large catalog of great songs, I could give you a dozen more you need to hear right now. They were every bit as good live as they were in the studio and was an amazing group of musicians capable of writing songs with lots of progression changes, tempos, and lyrics that could have been poems. Love your channel and love seeing someone getting to hear this type of music for the first time. I see it in your eyes, there ain't no faking that shit and I am jealous that you are hearing these songs for the first time. Keep on doing your thing dude, I really love each reaction you do !

Your reaction just brought back me back to a evening in 1976. I had just graduated from Tennessee Tech University. I was getting ready to start my first full-time adult job the next day. I have moved into my first adult apartment and my roommate and I were decorating and listening to the radio when they introduced this song for the very first time. It just took me to another place musically I didn't have a video to watch I was just hearing the music and felt it to my very bones. And I still do to this day. I just turned 70 a few weeks ago. Kansas is a special band and there were many of them in the 70s. I miss good band music that's why I listen to oldies more than I do contemporary music today. There's some great singers today but it's just not the same as the bands, the harmonies and the different instruments coming together to make such a beautiful sound. I wish I'd gotten to see them on stage live. I got to see a lot of my favorite bands but I never did get to see Kansas.
