Correct song, but I'd suggest the 14 minutes live version recorded 1991, where Brian May (of QUEEN) plays a 3+ minutes intro-solo! Imo the most iconic version of that song, way better than Dave Stewart (of Eurythmics) in the Video-Version.

Yo wats good Molly Lad bro, how ya been lad? You got to check out The Offspring react to the official song video called Defy you. You will love it bro
@dopiaza20066 ай бұрын
But the song was written by Dave Stewart...?
@SH19746 ай бұрын
@@dopiaza2006 No. Dave wrote just the beat and the chorus, then he stuck. All the rest of the song was done by Tom. Wikipedia lists them both as composers of the song, but in fact: Dave has brought the idea, Tom has turned into a song. Not even the scentence "don't come around here no more" which makes the chorus was Dave's. It's origined by Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac) she said it to Joe Walsh (Eagles) after they broke up. Btw: don't get me wrong: Dave Stewart is a brilliant musician, writing and performing with awesome talent! But I love Sir Brian May's guitar in this live version of the song more than I love Dave's guitar in the studio version. That's all. No bashing of Dave or anyone else involved to that song, they all (Tom, Dave, Brian, as well as Stevie and Joe) are brilliant musicians.

Tom Petty is an American Icon. He wrote songs about his life, real stuff, not stuff just to be catchy and make money. People loved him and his death was painful for the whole nation. He grew up in Gainesville Florida and moved to Calif to "make it" in the music bus. At his death, the Univ of Fla in Gainesville started a tradition where at every football game, the whole stadium stands up and sings his song "I won't back down" together. It is amazing. You should check out more of his music, this is just one of dozens of HUGE hits for him.

Petty one of the best songwriters--"Listen to Her Heart", "I Won't Back Down", "The Waiting", "American Girl", "Walls", "Southern Accents", "Don't Come Around here no more" (and many more that will be listed by others),--he is born and raised in Gainesville, Florida with his band, but moved to LA and wrote a lot about that area/culture. Really good and smart sense of humor, too. Was big from the late 70s until his untimely death a few years ago. Worth the time.

This is my 23rd or 24th reaction by you I've watched tonight, and I still have another hour or so. I've commented on every video I've watched and totally enjoyed each one. So, for this video I have a story for you ... Back in 1979 I lived in an Orlando, FL, suburb in an apt complex and a couple of Orlando WDIZ Rock station DJs lived in an apt across from mine. I was 13 and my friend and I, who was the same age, had the unique job of spending our Saturday afternoons at their apt listening to new albums sent to them to play. Back then the DJs picked the songs from the new albums to play, so they had us teen girls listen to them and give our opinions of the songs. We listened to them totally blind so our reactions were genuine. One Saturday we were asked to listen to Damn The Torpedoes by Tom Petty, though we didn't know anything about it at all. And there were always lots if people hanging out, listening to music, drinking, smoking weed, etc... My friend and I listened to both sides of the album twice. Then it was time to give our options. But instead of fhe DJ asking, this time it was the really quiet guy in the Lazy Boy. He leaned toward me to pass me a joint and asked us what we thought ... We told him and he introduced himself as Tom, Tom Petty, and it was his album we just critiqued. 😊 I had NO idea who he was or how huge of a star he would be... That day he was just the cool guy who sang Even The Losers, one of my all-time fav songs to this day! Ahhh, to be young again... In the 1970s... Much Love! ❤

It'a a melancholic ballad. Reseda, town in San Fernando Valley, a larger suburb of Los Angeles (w/2 million people) and a great place to grow up. And even though it's right next to LA megalopolis, it still preserved 'that country feeling' of American west.
