So, the final spoken part is actually the summoning spell for Satan himself, written and published (and performed twice) by Crowley. Almost every line of this song is steeped in occult reference, and it would take pages to explain. As far as the video: There are always 3/4 band members. Inferno (the drummer) is usually not present. This represents the holy (or unholy) trinity. Same reason you see three candles shoved into the kids’ mouth. It is the purification of the soul, offering protection from indoctrination. It is yet another one of Crowley’s rituals (are the pattern?). Orion (bassist) plays the angel, which is most likely Gabriel, signaling the breaking of the seal and welcoming of Satan to earth. Many different things can be applied to the lead, including references to Odin, Lucifer, priesthood, shamanism, and numerous occult figures. He’s missing an eye, which can also either be traced to Odin or some other all-father religious figurehead. The beginning is Prometheus, left to be eaten on a cliff by crows. Every day he heals, and every day they pick at his intestines. This is the price paid for spreading knowledge and putting “enlightened religion” in the shadows. Welcome to the real dark side, man. This song isn’t a typical metal song, but it embodies the whole band. If you listen in detail to every song on that album, and understand them, you’ll see why it was a fitting ending (and also plays into the beginning of the new album, with Bartzabel).

Fucking great analysis, man! I'm not that familiar with Thelema, so all those details always seem a little cryptic and elude me. But I'm familiar with many mythologies and symbolisms, so I also noticed many things that you did. It's also worth mentioning the 'archetypical' parallel between Prometheus and Lucifer, Nergal uses this a lot, they even have a song called Prometherion. The Spiritual Sun, The Bringer of Light. As for God=Dog the core also comes from something Crowley wrote and I read some of it, but couldn't make anything out, it's always so cryptic to me. And I know it's on purpose. Solis sacerdotibus.

I love Behemoth, but you really need to go deep into lyrics to understand. They use a lot of references, latin words and even some medieval English. Also I feel like their albums are truly meaningful as entire album, understanding song by song is much harder I´d say. You even have to get that most of the satanists use Satan as ideal/display of spiritual, mental and physical strenght. Sorry if there´s any mistake in my English. Nice day to anyone reading this!

It's more like they used some of the best european myths. Like the Ferryman that steers the boat on the river Styx in the underworld to transport your soul. Or Prometheus who stole fire at Mt Olympus to give it to humanity and got punished by being chained to a Mountain and have vultures rip out his Liver everyday anew since it regenerated over night. ;)

This band is not an easy one. The lyrics are to a great extent inspired by the works of Alistair Crowley, but, at least in my mind, they are not to be taken literally. Behemoth is all about opposing religion and its oppression of people. Watching an interview with Nergal, the singer/guitarist will put this in better context. Finally, keep in mind that Nergal is an atheist, not a satanist, and all he does is expose the hypocrisy of Christianity (and religion as a whole). Also, the music videos are meant to shock and provoke, but are also not to be taken literally. They are a play on how a religious person might look at Behemoth, while at the same time portraying that this false view, is not false when you look at religion that way

Behemoth's lyrics are deeply steeped in history, religion, mythology, stuff like that. They're one of the few satanic metal bands that aren't just talking about satanic shit for the sake of being in-your-face obnoxious. There's lots of effort and time spent on research for their themes and concepts, and when you read through their lyrics I think that is pretty clear. As to what any of it means though - who the hell knows.

6:15 A Satanic baptism, that's what you're watching! Instead of pouring water on the child's head, in the satanic baptism you rub earth on the child's feet, to reaffirm his connection with the material world, and as a statement that the child is the master of all land he steps on. I just came across your channel and you're hilarious! :D Loved those edits! I"m so glad that you're an open-minded listener just like me (I'm a Metalhead who's also into RAP and many other genres), and I really digged your reactions, could relate. So glad you're venturing into Metal and was able to enjoy this! Extreme Metal really takes some adquired taste. If you intend to watch more Behemoth videos be ready for loads of creepy and obscure things like this, that's how they like it. But there's a lot of meaning behind it, of course. Like many other people said, the lyrics mainly revolve around the work and philosophy of Aleister Crowley, Thelema. Also Satan as a symbol of enlightenment, inner knowledge and many other things. In Nergal's interview with The Guardian you can read something about what Satan means to him. And yes, this album is a different one! This song specially is slower and more atmospheric than most of their songs. Since The Satanist in 2014 and now again with "I Loved you at your darkest", they've been venturing new realms. They still play the good old Blackened Death Metal, but they're innovating and evolving in a very interesting way. I really admire that and I think that many times that is a testament of a musician's skill and authenticity. This song and Bartzabel are perfect examples of that! I hope you keep reacting to and enjoying more of their videos! And if you read all of this thanks a lot for your time!

@katastrophecy

Just finished watching, and I'm not 100% certain on the meaning or intent of the song, but I know the lead singer and frontman of the band, Nergal, is a Satanist (I don't believe he's a theistic Satanist [i.e., someone who believes in an actual Satan], but more so an atheistic Satanist, someone who believes Satan stands as a symbol for human traits, such as freedom, self-honesty, and the human spirit-he just depicts visceral imagery of theistic Satanism in his music videos). But anyway, just a few little tidbits of knowledge that I was able to pick up: The dude chained to the rock, getting his guts eaten by a crow, is supposed to be Prometheus, a Titan in Greek mythology who defied the gods, stole fire from them, and gave the fire to humanity-something that enabled the human race to progress forward and help build a better civilization. He was, in turn, punished by the gods, bound to a rock by Zeus, where Prometheus was to remain for the rest of his life, to have his liver eaten by an eagle. Overnight, his liver would grow back and be eaten again, for all eternity. One of those pieces of symbolism that depicts the cruelness of the gods and how they want humanity to simply obey and be at a standstill. The other bit I wanted to give some insight to was the ending with the child. I'm not sure of the exact meaning, but I read around that it was depicting a ritual of converting to something (Satanism? I don't know). But the spitting of white liquid from the kid's mouth was supposed to represent them expelling the darkness or evil from their bodies-in a way, purifying them as a person. But yeah, dude, dope reaction, and I'm glad you finally got around to listening to this song, even if it wasn't your favorite. Nergal is HYPER into biblical studies and is well-versed in a massive amount of mythology and theology, so you can always try to pull meanings and symbolism from not only his lyrics but the band's imagery. I hope to see you gather the strength to listen to another Behemoth song sometime, lol, I know they're definitely in the more extreme genre of metal and harder to get into than other bands. Peace, man.

Your reaction is one that we metalheads generally like. Oftentimes the first listen of something that sort of throws me is a good sign that I will really love it later on. Behemoth is more of a cerebral band and makes you think of your own interpretations. Again I applaud you for your open mindedness and enjoy seeing a person fall in love with a music that I have loved all my life.

First its a love song. Second, it's a prayer, or rather two prayers. The first half is the singer singing praise to the great twister of what's real, the dark Lord himself. The second half (the spoken bits) is lifted from an occult/thelemic invocation of Satan. It's called o father o Satan o sun, did you really expect anything else? Off an album called the satanist. As I understand it the vocalist nergal is an atheist, but sees satanism as worshipping the power of the individual as the highest most elevated glory. He's a bit of a humanist as well. And they're from Poland, a deeply Catholic country so this is his rejection of a belief system he feels lessens the individual. The guitarist (bassist?) as I understand it is a 'proper' satanist/occultist and puts the thelemic/occult literature stuff in as his contribution. I've seen interpretations of the video as being a pagan cleansing of the kid, removing the Christianity from him. Christianity's conquest of Europe was exactly that: a conquest. There's a lake in Finland called something like 'the lake of tears' where in the middle ages you used to go and wash the Christianity off of you in secret and then conduct some of the Finnish pagan rituals. And so on. Watch 'blow your trumpets Gabriel' for European history inside 5 minutes. Also, the wtf moment will blow you away, unlike this one where it's just 'wtf?!?'

Behemoth is an acquired taste and I'd say a majority of their fan-base had some kind of christian/religious background. The first time I heard them, it was the song Conquer All and I was freaked out and hated the vocals. A few years later I gave them a try again and it was this album that turned me onto them making them my favorite metal band now. Their lyrics are super deep in the wealth of information revolving around the Bible, Alesteir Crowley and other religious/anti-religious material, hence the dark imagery. A lot of their stuff is disturbing and given that they're a Polish band where sex and glamour in their media are regarded as a better commodity than poetry is in their country, and seeing how religion is still a huge part in their government, it shouldn't surprise many that they create material like this. This song was probably a bit much for a newcomer to react to as their second song. I recommend either their newest album with God=Dog, or go back to Demigod. The entire Album of Demigod is good.

Same for me! I couldn't enjoy the vocals, but once I did I got hooked! And it was a little more Extreme than what I'm used to listen to, but now that's OK. I love the direction they're taking with these two releases! Some real Avant-Garde Black Metal! Can't wait to see where this goes! Bartzabel simply blew my mind!

Same here to an extent. I first heard of this band through a friend of mine who sent me the video for Slaves Shall Serve back in the MySpace days. I didn’t know what it was but the opening scared the living shit out of me. I avoided the band because I’ve never been into death metal or black metal or whatever sub genre it is. When The Satanist came out, I gave them a listen and I liked it. For me, I don’t like the lyrics of the band as far as the anti Christian subject matter but at the same time I appreciate the fact that they at least make the shit interesting. Musically, I’ve grown to like some of their stuff. Death metal has never been my type of metal but Behemoth has some good shit. It’s funny how I started out with stuff like Linkin Park and Korn and then went to Lamb of God and Metallica then onto August Burns Red and For Today then I started listening to some of the darker stuff like Black Sabbath and from their I started listening to Slayer and then I started listening to King Diamond and then Behemoth and I recently discovered a band called CandleMass. Funny how that works.

Welcome to the metal world dude. Good choices so far. Just a little tale for you. Last year my son and I went to see Hed PE at a local club. They kicked arse as you would expect from Hed PE. However that's not the tale. There were supposed to be 3 bands on the night. One of the bands pulled out at the last minute so the openers One For Sorrow got 40 mins instead of 25. I had no idea who these guys were, but, they fucking broke me and my son. Tight songs and an excellent stage presence. Sadly I was a tad wasted at the gig and forget the bands name. It took me a year to find out who they were, and 2 days after I finally found out they played a gig in London, this was last Friday by the way. When we arrived the singer and drummer were in the bar chillin'. Had to go and say hello cos reasons right. Joe the vocalist looked at me a bit weird, then, when i told him we had seen them the year before he remembered me, cos like I said they kicked arse and I lost me shit to them. anyways rambling, we spent about 30 mins chatting with them before they played their set. Afterwards in the bar the singer found me bought me a beer and we spent the next 4 hours with the band. Totally sweet guys all of them. Fine example of the metal community. Anyways if you are interested check them out. Annoyingly if you search for them on KZbin their are about 8 pages of Steps videos. But keep scrolling. I recommend Into The Woods, Fools and Liars and also Bigot. an awesome anti racist anthem. So gonna stop now before your eyes start to bleed. Keep up the good work and hope you find many more dope ass tunes to get your metal on to. Thanks again for putting a smile on my face with your vids.

AW YEA welcome to Behemoth purgatory! Behemoth's lyrics are very Aleister Crowley inspired, this one included. Crowley built his philosophy on any pagan gods that he liked and had a way with words. I have not yet read enough Crowley to tell you what the part with the little boy meant, maybe someone else should help. The character with one eye makes me think of Odin. The man chained on the rocks with his guts out is probably Prometheus. The one with the wings - Icarus. But anyways. Come and watch their newest video Bartzabel. No harm is done to little boys there, and it's very melodic.

Behemoth is definitely not the kind of band whose songs and videos are something one just gets from listening to it once/occasionally.
