To clarify for you, Nymphetamine is about her being his addiction, it is about their relationship being toxic. Think of it as a love story, but in reverse. That is the abbreviated version for you. As for your question about screaming, he was not talking, but singing with a guttural tone, this is still singing as you can clearly hear the enunciation of each word. I hope this clears up any confusion for you.

She's not "just" Liv Kristine from Leaves' Eyes. She is a godamn legend, the mother of Gothic Metal, the creator of the original Beauty & the Beast dynamics, ex member of Theatre of Tragedy; one of the pioneering bands not only in the Gothic Metal subgenre, but in mixing female vocals with death growls. We owe her an entire subgenre of music, Hail Liv!
@thenecrosanct49064 жыл бұрын
She deserves credit, true, but claiming that we owe the entire subgenre of Gothic Metal to her is too much credit. That credit goes to 3 British bands: My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and Anathema. Heck, even Type-O-Negative adopted the gothic style long before ToT rose from the woodwork. Then there's a little band called Tiamat that had heavy gothic influences before ToT. Without them there would most likely not be a Theatre of Tragedy at all, or it would've sounded very different. We can credit the band with adopting the clean female/male growl vocal combination as a main musical element. Yes, I'll give you that. An idea they lifted from bands like The Gathering, Paradise Lost and Cradle of Filth. But to say the entire subgenre was founded on Theatre of Tragedy only shows ignorance on the genesis of Gothic Metal. They popularized ONE element of the wide spectrum that is Gothic Metal, the Beauty and the Beast element as it's referred to.

My interpretation: "Nymph" actually refers to what Celts, Pagans, and Greeks referred to as the Fae, or "Fair Folk." Basically, a being diminutive in size -- and very beautiful to boot. Amphetamines are drugs that have a high addiction percentage, like crystal methamphetamine, or normal methamphetamine. In essence, I believe the song is about the addiction of trying to look beautiful, no matter what the cost, even to the point of death.
@Werewolf9144 жыл бұрын
Huh interesting interpretation, the way I always thought of it was that he was super in love probably even obsessed with a Women to the point that being with her was like a drug and though it's a bit clingy he couldn't be anywhere without her. Hence the chorus lines like "in my heart that barless Prison" and "this lust, this Vampiric addiction, to her alone in full submission" But one thing that I also wondered as whether this led to him either dying, or trying to kill himself because you also have lines like the beginning where he says "Cold was my soul, untold was the pain I faced when you left me a Rose in the rain. So I swore to the *razor* that never enchained, would your dark nails of faith, be pushed through my veins again" as well as the first bit of his part of the chorus "*six feet deep* is the incision" as well as her saying "bared on your tomb" which to me implies that maybe he did die or try to? Guess we'll never know the true meaning unless Dani says what he wrote it about. So really any interpretation could be correct.

The title is a portmanteau of "nymphette" and "amphetamine" and Dani Filth explained it as referring to "a drug-like addiction to the woman in question, with her insidious vampire qualities literally bringing her lover back from the brink of the spiritual grave, only to bury him further on the strength of a whim. This is very Edgar Allan Poe in style, and leaves one thinking that, despite the character's inner agonies, he is really a welcome submissive who readily enjoys the terrible highs and lows of his relationship with this alluring and filthy succubus."

That woman is Liv Kristine! One of the absolute QUEENS of Gothic Metal originally from Theatre of Tragedy and Leaves' Eyes. If you enjoyed this song, you should try old Theatre of Tragedy (especially their first 3 albums, though the third is actually a goth album instead of a Metal one), and Tristania's first 3 as well. Maybe Sirenia too. My favorites are, for Theatre of Tragedy: Fair and 'Guilling Copesmate Death, A Hamlet for a Slothful Vassal, Der Tanz der Schatten, Bring Forth Ye Shadow, Venus, Cassandra. Tristania: Beyond the Veil, My Lost Lenore, Angina, Evenfall, Heretique, Crushed Dreams.

Alex: "I just spit everywhere!" Me: Yeah, Cradle will make you do that (especially if you ever try to impersonate Dani's vocals). You are right about "Gothic" only think more along the lines of the literary gothic romance genre and less in the Marilyn Manson/ Nine Inch Nails sense. They are a British extreme metal band (now categorized as extreme metal) and yes, each one of them is an incredibly talented musician. I have been following them since "Dusk and Her Embrace" circa 1996. The musicianship and songwriting are their biggest strengths and Dani writes most (if not all) lyrics for the band. Pulling from inspirations such as Nietzche, Freud, Lord Byron, and of course Shakespeare, Poe, and Lovecraft. Some of their albums follow historical figures through out history (such as "Cruelty and the Beast" for Elizabeth Bathory or Gilles de Rais with "Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder". While other's explore various mythologies and horror tropes like the supposed realm of the monsters known as "Midian". Sadly, Liv from Leaves Eyes was only doing a guest appearance but they used to have Sarah Jezebel Diva do backup vocals for them. Nowadays Lindsey Schoolcraft does them and she also plays keyboard for COF.
