Took Kendrick 7 years to hit the mainstream (2011 is when his songs started playing on the radio), so if you ever think you won't make it big, be patient. Success is not instant.

Rappers like Kendrick shouldn't even be compared to trap (e.g., Migos, Lil uzi vert, 21 savage, etc.) because the different styles might as well be different genres of rap. But for some reason today our society appreciates club bangers rather than lyrical genius. Because of this fact we can't let rappers like Kendrick go unseen. Cheers!

SilversteinRescue good kid maad city is the only one I've listened to in its entirety more than once. I didn't enjoy it. He walked on the beat instead of dancing on it. Music can be broken down to rhythm and melody. My favorite MCs always provided the melody with their verses over the rhythm provided by the beat. That's what I mean by walking vs dancing. The greats dance. K Dot walks. I don't want to call him a bad MC, because he's not. He's just not for me.

Kendrick is a real artist. He never changed his style; he just evolved. I see so many wack "rappers" out here that style changed overtime, because it wasn't working out for them in the beginning. sorry if the verb I used doesn't sit well with you, but evolve can be used in a sense that's different from change. It means to progress, mature, develop, advance, etc. something that already exists.. You can't evolve the dirty dish-water into clean water by emptying out the sink and running new water, but you can change it, and a mammoth doesn't change into an elephant; it evolves into one. You see how that works?

I haven't been alive long enough to say I've been a fan since the beginning, but I discovered Kendrick in 2012. I have however, gone back and listened to his old music. He's never had a moment where he wasn't a lyrical genius. People like him, Childish Gambino, J. Cole, Logic, etc; are saving hip hop. There are even newer artists who have talent, but Kendrick will go down as one of the greatest.

Okay I'm gonna say this. I like Migos, Future, Drake, and Desiigner. I listen to all types of music. But I will never say they're better than Dre, OutKast, J Cole, Nas, Jay Z, Kendrick or pretty much anyone else old school. They, at least to me, will always be at the top.

Jeremy Kenley I'm aware that's not all types of music. But if you take into account the fact I listen to most genres including EDM, jazz, alternative, folk and orchestral soundtracks, it's safe to say I listen to more than a few new rappers. Furthermore, music is music. if you don't like it, fine, that's your opinion. Music is art and art is subject to criticism. Just don't get so hostile when others like what you don't. Have a good one, lad. Cheers.
