The book of Daniel and the prophetic contents it contains, is wonderful to read! Biblical events as recorded hold a place in history, and cannot be denied!!

@@moteague the word of God is good enough for me. The bible is more than a historical account, which are biased and otherwise flawed at times. It is the logic of the love God. He humbles the proud. He redeems those that repent of evil from the hand of the destroyer, and will soon even the destroyer of the earth will be brought low, and God rule the earth in peace. He also teaches that only those who are called to follow Jesus, His chosen son, can know Him. It is a powerful thing to know that the living God of heaven dwells in my heart. One day you will bow before Him.

@@moteague There is no other God to find and I have peace with God that I will share with you. First, history can be a benefit, but as you said it is from men, so it should be tested before it is trusted. Hebrews were not authorities and scripture instructs us to test the spirits. "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world 1John4" You are right that God is love, it is explained in verse 8. If a thing is not loving it is not from God, it seems that you have looked at the OT and determined it is not loving. I had done that for years. Then God called me and I realized it could be true and I had been to quick to judge. That Jesus could be God made man to love, teach, heal, and save us suddenly shook me up. If it were true, I had been a very rebellious and blasphemous child. My mind was intrigued and my heart humbled. I read daily from the NT especially John and began to pray because there was so much I didn't understand and I was overwhelmed. In truth, I don't understand the genocide bit, but He has explained that slavery was already happening. They enslaved each other when they were in debt. God didn't stop slavery, but had they followed the commandments He would have. We know this because there is no death or slavery in the new jerusalem. God meets us were we are at and we grow to be like Him. He is the good father, loving, knowing, and able to do all things. What if you were wrong about Him and dismissed Him, the God of Love that you are looking for?

Simplistic connected compact . The book of Daniel however covers events during his time, to the anointing of the Messiah, the last days, with points in between covering Roman political history such as Marc Anthony and Cleopatra, the coming of the papacy and it's history. The historical timeline and information is fabulous. The prophetic opinion is up for interpretation and discussion...🤔

I am not sure how the Book of Daniel ever touches on Mark Anthony and Cleopatra. It should be remembered that there were a number of different Cleopatras in the Ptolemaic line and the one who married Mark Anthony was Cleopatra VII.

Some people say that Jonathan became high priest not Simon. Which is true?
@DrJohnStevenson
@DrJohnStevenson 2 жыл бұрын
They each seem to have carried the title: Jonathan is described as the high priest in 1st Maccabees 10:69, 12:3-6, and in a summary statement in 1st Maccabees 14:30. On the other hand, we have this clear declaration of Simon being officially the high priest: "In the one hundred seventieth year, the yoke of the Gentiles was removed from Israel, and the people began to write in their documents and contracts, "In the first year of Simon the great high priest and commander and leader of the Jews." (1st Maccabees 13:41-42).

Most of your historic timelines are correct except for the book of Daniel, which, though it appears exactly what happened with Alexander the great. The book of Daniel is specifically written to prepare believers for the end times. Based on some of the terms and phrases used in that book with reference to its Hebrew spiritual symbolic relevance and John speaks of end times prophecy in the book of Revelation which again links to the book of Daniel and continues in great detail of the things to come so we believers can prepare ourselves for our Lord and be ready for His 2nd coming.

You mentioned that the Magi were from Parthia and not Babylon or Persia what's your historical source
@DrJohnStevenson
@DrJohnStevenson 7 жыл бұрын
I don't know that I made a big distinction here. Babylon during the first century was not an independent city. It was under the sway of the Parthians, so Magi coming from anywhere in Mesopotamia were coming from Parthian territories.

A good story - but as history it is questionable- as the main sources about the Hasmoneans was written by them, and is usually regarded as distorted in their favor
@DrJohnStevenson
@DrJohnStevenson 3 жыл бұрын
The main sources of nearly any people are normally told by themselves. That is the way history normally comes down to us. But I agree that the story is likely slanted in favor of the ones who tell it.

Daniel is history not prophecy.
@DrJohnStevenson
@DrJohnStevenson 2 жыл бұрын
If you mean to say that Daniel is written after all of those prophecies had been fulfilled, then you have a problem with the Dead Sea Scrolls, some of which were copied as early as the second century B.C. The Book of Daniel is represented in a number of those early copies.
