You could hear a bit of pain in Bill's voice when he said "Isn't it heartbreaking to work for 100 years on something and then people think "oh you probably just threw that together."" :(. I'm no psychologist but the more I learn about Bill the more it seems like he suffers from the common problem among artists of tying in a lot of his self worth with the quality of his work. I'm glad Anthony put a positive spin on it afterward.

whenever people around me tell me that my art skill is a "talent," i feel like that. it ignores the hours, the days, the *years* i have spent drawing and learning and practicing, all the art pieces ive discarded and deleted because they weren't what i wanted. its skill and there's nothing effortless about it!
@ziggybadans

@@maximumbeesExactly this. I don't feel talented at music, because what people don't see is the hundreds of recordings that never go anywhere, all the ideas floating around in my head that never get out, and how many mistakes I make with each one. I think to people looking in at your work, they see it as a certain threshold you cross to become "good" at something, while we see it as a sky that extends forever with no end, which is what I both love and hate about it.

With so many online content creators and streamers you get to see a lot of their real life personality and experiences. Sure a lot of it is smoke and mirrors but it’s something. I really hate to be that person, but like... a white man? HE looks like how I imagined HIM to look, yeah, but saying you think the general term "Artist" gives you this vision is kinda weird ngl! When I imagine any broad craftsman I picture a blank stickman lol. The more I learn about different types of people, the emptier my image of them is. You should really do more research on artists and art movements if Bill is who you picture when you hear the word "artist". Of course that's entirely up to you to do, I'm not the art police. At the very least you could try thinking before you comment....

@@nomoretwitterhandles I’m sure most people in the west picture white people when they think of any person in a role simply because whites are the majority. They’re also referring to clean shaven, no glasses, messy hair, more seemingly careless outfit, ya know? But I agree if the person was referring to race it’s weird but expected

I have never clicked so fast on a video from Anthony. Honestly. While watching this, I got the urge to rewatch history of japan. While rewatching it for probably the thousandth time, I was hit with fond memories of me studying Japanology in uni. It was really hard for me to remember the important dates and names of important people as we studied the WHOLE history of Japan throughout the first two semesters and I'd never been good at remembering dates and facts of history. My teacher was also kind of a dick. But I remember I rewatched bill wurtz' history of japan again and again to build bridges in my mind so that I could remember some of the important names and facts that would definitely come up in the history exam. I just want to let him know, if he's reading this, how much this helped me. I love Japan and actually live here now, so the huge amount of work and effort he put into the video definitely had a very big impact for some of his viewers lives, like mine. I barely passed the exam, but I did pass, and if it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't have been able to. It also just amuses me to this day. I think it's one of the most creative works of art on this platform and I really enjoy whatever this man is able to create. He is so talented and I'm thankful that he is also so eager to continue working on his videos even though they are so tough to create. It's really what sets him apart from so many creators that are very low-effort. Not to hate on them, just because someone is low-effort doesn't mean they are a bad creator, but with people like bill wurtz or (very unrelated but) also like Joel Haver or something, these people are not just creators, they are artists and the way they express themselves through art is just so unique and memorable. I'm really glad he agreed to do this interview with you, it's obvious he doesn't feel to comfortable in this setting, but I'm glad he tried to get himself out of his comfort zone. I just really wish all the best to him.

i think faster thank i can talk, which lead to me developing a speech impediment as a child bc i talked way too fast to the point it was incomprehensible (💀). i sound like a COMPLETELY different person over text than when talking to me in person because when typing i can visually SEE the thoughts before actually saying them, and being able to type super fast also helps keep the flow going, whereas when i try to voice my thoughts in person, i either end up A. talking unbelieveably slowly while i think of what i want to say or B. i thought about what i was going to say SO MUCH to the point where when i finally try to say it out loud, the speech impediment comes through and i say it in a slur of words to the point where an untrained ear is just like "...what? im sorry, _what_ did you just say? those werent words, those were syllables and sounds." and that's not even taking the ADHD into account where when having a conversation, if i dont interrupt, i wont know when to come in AND i often forget what i was going to say because i didn't want to interrupt the other person in the middle of their sentence. but yeah no i 1000% agree it would save me a lot of trouble if i could transfer my thoughts telepathically rather than trying to say them out loud

By far my favourite guest on any of these interviews I've seen. And I love a lot of these interviews! (Especially the assumptions series)

This interview went exactly how I thought it would. I'm still processing that he agreed to do this?? 😅

“Doing something that you think other people would like, but you don’t like, that’s like painting with colors that you can’t see.” Is literally some of the most profound thought on authenticity that I’ve ever heard.

He seems so unbelievably intelligent. Just listening to him speak feels like I’m being educated by someone who is on a different plane of existence than me.

THIS MAN is the reason that my brain turns EVERYTHING into a little jingle. He has had more impact on the way i communicate than almost anyone else. Litterally the blueprint for my sense of timing in humor as well. Huge love to a real Legend

my favorite thing about bill wurtz style is that it is art style that you know only someone who is incredibly skilled can make something that should look bad look so good. It’s the ultimate show of skill in a medium, as you can only rely on the things people can’t directly point to and say “this is good”

Honestly given that he was best friends with Ian for so many years I'm not surprised that he's used to tangents 😂

I actually find it much easier to focus on what Bill says, but my mind starts to drift when Anthony talks.

Bill Wurtz is not just an entertainer, he's a modern philosopher through the medium of dadaist humour and even just the way he talks off the cuff. I have so much more respect for him after watching this interview than I had even before. As an artist with ADHD, him talking about the traumatic experience of choosing a single project to focus on and finish it even if it might suck, even potentially to make something you know will suck just to physically make it, really resonated with me, too. Best of luck with your current project, Bill- from someone who is ~still a piece of garbage~!

As an animator/ designer I was a student when I came across Bill’s work and I was blown away by the effort he put into his art. He inspired me to create and invest more time into my bullshit passion projects. Time to time I still watch the entire history of the world, i guess video without getting bored. Thanks Bill. Love your work, i guess…❤

i like that anthony asks for clarification on his answers when i can guarantee bills answers are as complete as they’re ever going to get.

I like how it demonstrates how Anthony seems to think in broader strokes and Bill thinks in the tiniest levels of detail so a "clear" answer to Anthony is relatively short and a "clear answer" to Bill is painstakingly long.
