@Raccoon-gy6vc4 жыл бұрын
@@DGS5218 Everything Went Numb: Kepping yourself alive Somewhere in the Between: Appreciating life and understandjng death The Hands that Thieve: Sharing that appreciation and understanding with those who need it. This is what the albums have done for me. Hands that thieve has motif of lifelong relationships and parental relationships and retrospection. Toe to Toe is about telling someone truths that can be found through the previous album. And at the end he says "I was wrong and you were right". Implying that the person he is teaching is now better than him in retrospect, the goal of parental and mentoring relationships. Everything went numb is very obviously na na na na dont kill yourself. Somewhere in the Between is about life and death as a whole and seeing the world from a bigger side, religion, I feel is used to set up the all encompassing view the songs take. Mephistos Cafe is not about going to Hell, it is about keeping true to yourself. This all just my take based kn my experience. Everything Went Numb kept me alive, Somewhere in the Between made me think about life from a bigger side, around this time I also started looking into stoicism, so that might have affected my interpretations. And The Hands That Thieve kept me from getting demorlaized, made me stay true to myself, and made me want to help other people develop their independence. I have had parental relationships with people despite not being a parent, I have helped people develop indpendence, and am peoud to say these people are stronger and smarter and have more potential than I do, that is my journey, and that is how Thomas helped me along it. I am forever in the debt of this wonderful, amazing bad.

Something to know is that the lead singer Thomas Kalnoky is VERY anti-religion. Essentially he was saying that people use prayer as a crutch instead if actually doing anything when fucked up things are happening. The "narrator" recognized the abuse towards animals throughout the video but is saying "hey its not my fault" and only prayed for them until he was the last one alive

Yeah. Definitely do more Ska. My favorite music is metal, punk, ska, and hard rock, so I'm stoked you're liking it all so far. Ska is tons of fun, but usually has a pretty heavy message.
@Crunchatize_Me_Senpai3 жыл бұрын
Ehhh most ska lyrics (at least from the era Streetlight was a part of) is a lot of “relatable teen problems” in my experience. Not hating, I love Reel Big Fish, which is one of the biggest offenders in that regard, but a lot of those lyrics are about casual relationship problems, and sometimes partying. Fun, but not particularly deep. Streetlight and LTJ are the big ones that come to mind when I think about actually having meaningful messages, particularly Streetlight. Both of those bands have poured their hearts and souls into helping people deal with dark periods in their lives. I’m sure there are other bands that I’m not thinking of/not aware of that have meaningful lyrics, but they seem rarer than those that don’t (again, mainly talking about this later era of ska).
