White tees, pink tees, orange tees, wooden tees, tried them all!! This has helped me understand so much about tee height, I have recently bought a new driver but was hitting it about two thirds of my old driver. As these new type drivers have a deep face I still teed up as I did with my shallow face driver. Tried this today back to longer drives and very happy instead of the 20ft high rubbish I was hitting. Thanks Danny

I’m not one to comment normally, however, after a year of struggling with pink tees (Due to a Pro telling me Pink is best), I took to the course over the weekend with Orange tees and hitting up as you described. Wow, what a difference, easy 20-30 yards longer each time, and due to much lower spin my draw was a lot more predictable. Thank you very much, Danny

Good info, as usual. I'm struggling to not slice (I've watched your other vids!) and found having the ball a bit further back helps. I'm new to the game, 53 years old and using a 12* M6 driver. Would moving the ball back further and using the loft, almost treating the club as an iron or fairway wood, help? Maybe a lower tee height? I'd be happy with a consistent ~230 yards and straight. I can hit 250+yards but I can't rely on my drive!

Danny i discovered something in relation to the height of the tee which you might think is unorthodox,i do this now even on par threes,what i do is exaggerate the height of the tee but in doing so i hover the club off the ground,this if you get my drift makes me sweep the ball not hit it and additionally keeps those forearms against my chest.With the driver i have the tee very high,hover off the ground and as mentioned sweep the club,sounds odd but it works Danny.

Danny I lowered the tee and my slice got dramatically better. I feel like with a high tee for me it was causing too many other variables. I was hitting at my local range about 225 and nasty slice. That with getting the club more around my body in the backswing instead of up and down I turned it straight and was hitting right at the 300 yard marker. Also rotating of my forearms through the downswing. I worked on that with half swings and was hitting driver 250 straight as can be just with half swing. I may start using only a half swing on drives it’s consistent and further than my full swing slice

The orange one tends to go long but low about 6 feet off the floor but runs well , my pro tries to get me to hit off that orange one and is ok on a lesson and on the range but not when you have one shot at it on the course . I also have my mates through watching me hitting it off a white castle if wind is into us . I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD THAT MY BACKSWING IS A FIGURE 8 THIS I DID NOT KNOW BECAUSE WHEN I SET UP MY GRIP IS POINTING TO MY LEFT SIDE OF MY GROIN AND OFF A PINK TEE GOES STRAIGHT WITH ALL CLUBS EVEN WEDGES. 64 years old, 20 H/cap. Tried the orange tee, purple tee, pink tee...topping it, skying it, and when connecting properly, slicing it horribly. Solution for me? Switched to a heavier club, 12 degree loft (as opposed to my old 10 degree loft) and then tried 4 inch wooden tee , down to green marker on tee shaft. Result? Straighter , longer drives. My mates had a laugh at the 4 inch tee when I first produced it - not laughing now. I am.

Having watched this last night, umm 2:00 am..lol Tonight at the range, in which we have to hit off mats, and with 18 to 25 mph wind blowing in our face, it caused me to really focus on my set up and shallowing out my driver swing, and all my clubs for that matter. I switched to a higher tee than I would normally use, and when I made a decent swing I made better contact, and gained some yardage..Being that it was so windy and cold for southern California I had to adopt to the conditions. I though for an Old man, I did fairly well. I'll keep working to achieve my goal. Thanks again for the great instruction.

It depends entirely on how good your driver swing is and your club head speed. I am old now so I have lost speed. I find that the white tee gives me the best result. Using pink I hit it too high with no length advantage and also turn my straight/gentle fade into a slice

I’ve seen some videos saying backspin creates loft, which creates distance, so instead of hitting up, hit slightly down. What do you think?
@DanielMaude5 жыл бұрын
the clues in the name, BACKspin, the more BACKspin the more the ball wants to come back towards you. You need the height hence we would like you to hit up with driver. You cant do this with irons and fairways woods unless they are teed up. In which case we need to hit down to create backspin so they travel up and travel far
@onesipwonder4 жыл бұрын
I have been using 2 3/4 tee and 3 1/4 tee both give me really high launch. When I hit it, it sounds awesome, but the distance isn't. Sometimes it even rolls back, instead of rolling forward. Should I try to lower my tee, perhaps try the pink tee?

everyone on here is talking about higher tees but no one mentions what degree of loft your driver is set at. If you have a high loft setting and then raise the tee and swing up wouldn't you see the sky ball? I would think you have to adjust the loft for a higher Tee and upward swing
@DanielMaude4 жыл бұрын
Great question Don, the sky shot doesn’t occur because of too much loft. It happens because the ball comes off the top of the club face

If you look at many of the pros' face on driver swings, not a lot of them tee it up really high. I just checked and the average tour pro hits DOWN on it 1.3 degrees. It's a myth that a lot of golfers can hit up on the driver. I would argue that like 99% of golfers should not tee it really high.
@DanielMaude3 жыл бұрын
If you want to hit it further then teeing the ball higher and hitting up on the ball will do this. A tour player who already hits the ball far but needs more control may choose to sacrifice some length by hitting slightly down

Average attack angle of PGA tour is -1 degree. Amateur golfers tend to be more negative (-4 to -6) but it gets closer to -1 as they get closer to scratch. This contradicts what you say about hitting up with the driver. Hitting up with the driver makes it a completely different swing to all other clubs, which makes it a very hard shot to do. I can hit it high on the face with a short tee, and I can use exactly the same swing as all other clubs. It seems to be bad advice to try to hit up with the driver. Please comment.

Not those two words you pompous prat, they're essentially interchangeable. Besides, language changes and evolves over time and in different regions, so lighten up and don't be so pedantic.

@@tomr200199 ha! That’s funny. You get triggered and call me names because you’re ignorant. The words are not interchangeable. They mean different things. It isn’t difficult. Chill a little.

@@Bohdisattva if the only way you can feel ok about yourself is by putting other people down, then at least be correct while you do it, it isn't difficult: Farther and further have been used more or less interchangeably throughout most of their history, but currently they are showing signs of diverging. As adverbs they continue to be used interchangeably whenever spatial, temporal, or metaphorical distance is involved.

Sorry man, but, 2,5 feet... Are you for real?! Put the headcover 3-4 inches in front of the ball if you want them to really learn how to swing up on the ball.

Blah blah blah - why would anyone spend time watching a video like this? Experiment yourself and find what works for you.

@@DanielMaude Thank you for the video, the only video I have seen that adjusts the tee to the swing, I have a tendency to hit down on the ball.
