So when this product came out I just thought it was a GODSEND. Tekken has a "buffering" system which allows for short cuts that can make execution simpler. So instead of doing a string like 1,1+2, you can instead do 1 (hold 1), slide 2 which the game will interpret as 1,1+2. The term SOCD is just a coined term to describe opposing directions. So what they're doing is applying SOCD to the buffer system to increase execution speed for movement to something that's hard for humans to do consistently, in this case, a consistent (safer) BD that's easy to do.
@Ratel300012 жыл бұрын
If taking advantage of the SOCD cleaning to get IWR, I'm thinking you'd hold in the direction you want to go, and then use 2 other fingers to immediately hit the direction you don't want 1-2 frames apart from each other using the slide method. If Going Right: R+[L,L],R+attack. In this case, you'd use your ring and middle fingers to hit left, and when they're off the button you hit the attack since R is still pinned by your index finger.

My hitbox is rather different. Left is priority over Right, and Up is priority over Down. hold both Left & Right you will get Left; while holding both Up & Down will give you Up. In this respect, I do agree with posters Sticky and Steve that this is roughly on the same level as programmable devices. To John GRIMM: The fact that the SOCD "counts" as a direction either way, is what make this completely different to a normal netural input. Yes, it achieves the "same" thing (i.e its neutral) but that one input extra to get an iWR makes all the diff, because fwd dashing is a very easy input. Imagine simply having to tap twice to get (not tap and hold) to get a run ?

The users on Shoryuken forums just found weird unexpected benefits to this like how to exploit the SOCD Anti-cheating to make other commands easier or better in terms of execution. Hold the direction you want to go, tap the opposite direction to want to go, to 1-2 frame double taps. You can also use this SOCD cleaning to get the fastest dragon punch in the world T,T+D+B,D+T where T=Towards, D=Down, and B=Back. Imagine this in SSF4 with Ryu. [DP XX FADC Ultra].

Just bought a hitbox and cannot get iWR moves to come out. I see you posted on Zaibatsu that "plinking" (whatever that means) forward to back and then hitting forward works, but I'm not getting anything. I guess you are trying to say that we should let the second F come from taking our hand off B, and then hitting F. I've tried that method but still cannot get iWR moves to come out. What am I doing wrong?
@k20ahole6 жыл бұрын
Damon Verial timing. IWR 2. Do f, f, n, f+2. The f+2 must be hit at the exact same time
@DamonVerial6 жыл бұрын
That's how I normally do it, but I want to utilize the hitbox to get it out more easily. I don't know what I'm doing wrong because in theory this should work: f - f (hold) - tap b + 2
@k20ahole6 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you're making it more difficult having to hit, hit and hold, hit with different finger. Vs hitting one button 3 times
@DamonVerial6 жыл бұрын
No, tap->hold->tap is faster precisely because you can use two fingers. Think of it this way: Tapping one finger three times is slower than drumming your fingers. This works with perfectly with ff moves, and they come out instantly, just as fast as a single f move because I'm laying down two fingers at a single instance, rather than having to move them in an down-up-down motion (essentially, not needing to raise my finger from the initial press, which requires time). The problem is that the hitbox does not seem to recognize this as fff, even though it should, theoretically (or perhaps the problem is with T7?).
@k20ahole6 жыл бұрын
Damon Verial it could be tekken I think there is a rythym to it, I don't have my hitbox yet so Idk for sure. I play on dpad and if i do f, f,f +2 as fast as I can it doesn't come out. That's why I said f, f, N, f +2. This works point blank, 90% of the time every time

that's understandable. It is an arcade game so sticks is fan favorite. However most people don't use the stick because it's a classic. People use it because they think it's better. if it was a lot better to play on a controller then people will play on a controller. It's just how it is for a lot of people. A lot of people are using the hit box because they think it's better for them and are willing to re learn the controller scheme like people do to go from pad to stick.
@TGregers12 жыл бұрын
I seriously cannot see the problem.. no it's not a "natural" way to do it, but it makes it easier. It allows the players (pro players even) to focus on knowledge of the game, and not so much execution of difficult moves like OTGF and EWGF. Ive ordered one and I'll get it in february according to the website, and im so picking up a mishima when I get it.

And how is it an exploit? There is not a single input the Hit Box is doing that you can't do on a stick, unless you're saying that a neutral input is impossible on stick, which is all SOCD is. The only thing you could possibly complain about is the speed that you can do said inputs, and that's not an exploit, that's S-Tier.

@ph0xal1c10u511 жыл бұрын
It would make any running move cinch, . It could also open up so many more possiblities because of Tekkens input methods (i.e the hold one, press another, get the combination of buttons, rather then a priority link like SF) which I am sure applies to movement as well given the SOCD works. If SOCD worked for up and down without jump, man, think about how easy potentially iWS could be as well. Look, its not necessarily "wrong", but the "essence" of Tekken to me is lost through devices like this.

And of course one has to bear in mind that being able to flawlessly BDC will NOT turn you into Knee. You STILL need fundamentals. Being able to BDC this easily only allows you more freedom to focus your attention on OTHER fundamentals of Tekken. You STILL have to block lows, break throws, punish, mix up, hit confirm, and gain the practice+experience to beat your opponent's character AND their mind. Using a Hitbox doesn't automate ANY of that.

Also to John G: "If a neutral input is manipulating the game design then it wasn't designed for you to ever let go of your controller and is probably a bad game" this is an interesting comment. SF does NOT reward you for letting go of your controller there is no auto block like Tekken, yet its probably the most popular fighting game around at the moment, I wish Tekken was, but far more people consistently play SF then Tekken in Sydney, I play both competitively. IMO it still comes down to actually applying what you know consistently and good decision making at high level. Movement on three different devices (pad, stick, hitbox/keybord) all becomes seamless enough when you get the muscle memory for it. Stuff like Bryan's Taunt JU in terms of clean execution for intermediate players is nice on hitbox. But actually applying it in matches to get results is just a different story altogether.

doesn't just rolling the fingers on back and down work for a proper backdash cancel? b, n, b, d/b, n, b, d/b, n etc.... tap back,on the second back hold it and almost immediately press down as well, let go of both tap back and tap down while holding back for a slight amount of time. because AFAIK this is one of the most proper pad strategies, you just roll the thing between back and downback (and let go after d/b) at a very specific timing after the initial back and neutral input.

Dustin, from now on, whenever you mention SOCDs, you must mention the fact that the SOCDs are being nullified internally by the Hitbox itself. If you don't mention that in the actual video, and you mention doing SOCDs, they'll think it's a feature of the game and not the device. You made that mistake in the charge moves tutorial, and almost if not every other tutorial you've made that I've seen. Other than that, you always do a good job.

People use stick because of the key differences between pad and stick. People use pad for the same reason, plus preference, plus the time it takes to get used from one or the other. I've used both. Hitbox is doing what neither of those cause, sending opposite direction inputs at the same time to manipulate commands, Hence somewhat grey area, because the game was not designed around such control ability.
@rmnhn11 жыл бұрын
I like a complex and intricate system. What I don't like is when system is convoluted to all hell, and that's where I draw the line. Movement in Tekken has to be the most convoluted system I've experienced in a fighting game. And this is coming from someone who loves the franchise to death. If there's ever one thing about the series that needs to be streamlined, this is it.
@Spolupyo12 жыл бұрын
Not really, the real reasson of why people chose arcade sticks over control pads is not a matter of "stick vs D-pad", which one is better to pull QC motions is not important, people preffer arcade sticks because you can't use "piano-ing" techniques on a control pad, you need an arcade stick with 2 rows of buttons easily accesible to at least 4-5 buttons, 1 button for each finger, (2 buttons for the pinky), the only pads that I know of that are "piano-able" are the MD and Saturn controllers.

The clean neutral part of a BDC without getting any down inputs inTekken is what makes the technique hard. Neutral is a very important input in Tekken (is featured a lot in the notations) and to be able to achieve the state like this just seems like a dishonest hack.

Tekken is like an internal combustion engine. They perfected an engine that's 30% energy efficient. That's a flawed design but hey, gotta love that Ferrari. Same with this game. Hate to admit I enjoyed it but... I don't want to grind for many years just to get well at an execution. This game seems to care more about execution than your intelligence. I'm actually enjoying chess now. I can definitely play that when I get old and fragile. But who cares what I think. The young generation will keep financing Namco.
