Well, we still have a lot of tournament to go. When these subjective measures are used to benefit a team in the later stages I don't think it will be so great. Just wait for a game in which Brazil/Argentina/France/etc (just examples, again, the tournament is just starting really) struggles late with a team pushing for a result and see how they add 1 minute of stoppage. Or the automated offside/VAR starts benefitting those same favorites. It has happened for almost 100 years, it will happen this WC

Time-wasting is more about disrupting the momentum of the attacking team rather than simply just running down the clock. As such, I suspect inferior teams will continue to do it whether the time is added at the end or not. The only difference is they'll get better at knowing how much time is remaining and be ready for it. I won't be surprised if some team is eventually able to cause 20 or 25 minutes of added time in matches.

Why do we need or want FIFA? I don't mean as in some kind of governing body for international football, I mean as in why do we need a huge multi-billion dollar corporation like FIFA in charge? Since the 90s I've seen a clear shift where FIFAs main focus has become promoting themselves and increasing their revenue, rather than doing what is best for the game, and are now mainly focused around selling contracts for coverage of the world cup, which is not surprising since they are now making billions of dollars like this. For me we've reached the stage where FIFA is not actually good for the sport, and wholesale change is needed. FIFA's complete control of the game has allowed them to leverage their position in a way not seen with governing bodies in other sports, or with FIFA as they were before the last 20-30 years.

In Qatar, government projects are awarded to big contractors - mostly managed by foreigners. They hire workers from overseas through agencies in south East Asian countries. The agency takes fees from the companies/contractors. As a result Contractors expect the workers to not work elsewhere once the workers arrive in Qatar. The government cannot control every single recruitment happening in the private sector - which is run by foreigners themselves. For decades, workers have been coming to Qatar from south east Asia willingly (nobody forces them on planes). What I think is that Qatar is just using this world cup to confirm a lot of things about how these Oil rich economies in the Middle East operate and can help raise a number of issues and make a number of changes, if utilized correctly. And people like you are a key to this. Hope, this world cup will bring a positive change in the mindset among people in the right places.

You might be giving Qatar a bit too much credit there 😂😂no way they purposely set this World Cup to “raise awareness” of the problems in the Middle East. How much more goalpost moving are Qatar going to do? We can hold it in the summer in air-conditioned stadiums. Waits until it's realistically too late to change hosts, resulting in the first winter world cup. We'll sell alcohol in fan zones in and around the stadiums. Waits until two days before it starts before deciding the world cup will be dryer than a desert. We won't act in a discriminatory way to anything we consider un-natural. Bans rainbows. I could go on but if we can move the EURO's by a year, why don't we just void this and hold it next year?

Well the South African WC was played during our winter - and the Temps for a few games hit well below zero (Celsius - we're metric here). Yes this WC was corrupt, it is being played in the wrong country for many reasons, and Qatar was always going to renege on their promises. But this is hardly a surprise - nor was it a secret. The migrant workers issue was well known from Day 1. FIFA and all the FAs of the world had 12 years to rectify the issue - but did nothing. Now teams are resorting to virtue signalling to try and make matters right. My view is this - you (the FAs) did nothing when you should have; either do the decent thing and pull out or shut up and get on with it. PS - the world's poorest countries are generally in Sub Saharan Africa
@stepheng87792 жыл бұрын
It's 'virtue signalling' not virtual. Though you're quite correct they should've all pulled out as the first game kicked off. This goes back decades though Russia, Brazil, South Africa (even the ball was bent), Argentina 78 world cups bought by corruption 💩

Again, the critique of Qatar World Cup is mainly motivated by hate towards that region and being able to accept that there is someone who can do better and different culture, that’s why we get uncomfortable and shout this kind of crap. In addition that’s no violation of human rights or bribes issued officially by any embassy or government has been proven, human rights is must be respected regardless of the difference in culture.

Both Fifa and Qatar saying constantly that not only alcohol would be sold and people can wear any kind of armbands and things like that they want only to change their mind at the very last minute was obviously their way of avoiding long term discussions to try and come to another agreement. Funny that Infantino calls people hypocrites but sees nothing wrong with him being one himself.

All the best Alfie. Also European construction firms did most of the work in Qatar and hence they used lax labor laws to save on costs by hiring cheap migrant work... Alfie, if you've actually taken the time to check you would have know that European/American/Chinese firms do most construction work in smaller countries so they are just as guilty for migrant the crimes you speak
